Chapter 176 - Chapter 176: Gholdengo

Chapter 176: Gholdengo

After Ash proposed the idea of challenging the Gym, Misty asked with some concern: "Ash, are you sure you don't want to take a break before challenging the Gym?"

"It's fine. The one that fought just now was only Mewtwo, and my other Pokémon still have plenty of stamina."

Despite having just experienced a battle against a Legendary Pokémon, not only did Ash not feel tired, but he actually wanted to have another exhilarating battle.

"But Ash, don't you plan to learn about the Gym Leader of Violet Gym before challenging them?" Brock also asked.

"That's true. Better look it up first."

For the first battle in the Johto region, Ash only intended to train his team and didn't want to send out his main forces, so he really needed to understand the Gym Leader's skill level first.

Fortunately, they were currently at the Pokémon Center, where many Trainers were present. After a bit of simple inquiry, they had a preliminary understanding of the Violet Gym Leader.

The Violet Gym Leader was named Falkner, and he specialized in bird Pokemon. In other words, he was essentially a low-spec Flying-type Elite, with his main Pokemon being a Pidgeot.

After confirming his opponent, Ash asked Nurse Joy to provide him with an empty room, and then he set about evolving Gimmighoul.

When the 999th Gimmighoul coin was placed into Gimmighoul's treasure chest, Gimmighoul emitted the light of evolution.

[Pokemon: Gholdengo]

[Type: Steel + Ghost-type]

[Gender: Genderless]

[Level: Mid-level Pseudo-Elite]

[Ability: Good as Gold (A sturdy body of solid gold that will not oxidize, unaffected by opponent's status moves)]

[Potential: Pseudo-Champion]

[Moves: Night Shade, Shadow Ball, Power Gem, Make It Rain...]

"Is this Gimmighoul's evolution? It feels so shiny and luxurious!" Brock exclaimed.

Hearing Brock's words, Gholdengo leaned in front of Brock, wantonly showing off its golden body.

"Yeah, it's called Gholdengo."

Ash put it away, feeling a bit speechless.

Both Gimmighoul and Gholdengo were'socially anxious'.

Well... the former was a sufferer of social anxiety, hiding whenever it saw people; the latter was a social terrorist, liking to get close to people, and was a natural at socializing, able to get along with anyone immediately.

Soon, the group arrived downstairs at the Violet Gym.

"Ash... ahem, I misspoke. Little brothers and sisters, are you also Trainers here to challenge the Violet Gym?" asked Jessie, who was dressed as a hotel service staff member.

"If so, then you must pass through..."

James had just started speaking, but before he could finish, Ash interrupted him, "You three idiots, if you want to take off, I can help you with that."

Hearing this, the two knew their identities had been exposed. They didn't even care about stealing Pikachu anymore; they ripped off their disguises and turned to bolt.

"So what were they here for?" Misty asked, speechless.

Brock shrugged, "Who knows."

Seeing them retreat so readily, Ash had no intention of pursuing them.

Subsequently, the group entered the Violet Gym.

"The official match with the Gym Badge at stake between Violet Gym Leader Falkner and the challenger from Pallet Town, Ash, is about to begin. Each side may use three Pokemon. Are both contestants ready?"

As the referee's voice rang out.

Ash's first Gym Challenge in the Johto region kicked off.

"I have no problem; I'm ready to start the match at any time. Falkner, I will definitely get your badge!" Ash said with a hint of excitement.

"This concerns the reputation of the Violet Gym Leader, so I won't let you succeed easily. I will let you know the true power of bird Pokemon. First, my first Pokémon is... Hoothoot!"

As Falkner threw his Pokemon ball, a Hoothoot appeared on the field.

"Hoothoot, huh! Alright, I choose you, Gholdengo!"

Ash sent out the newly evolved Gholdengo.

"What kind of Pokemon is this?"

Falkner and the Gym students looked at Gholdengo with some surprise; they were certain they had never seen this Pokemon before in the Pokédex.

"Falkner, you can go first!"

Ash confidently yielded the first-attack advantage.

Facing an unknown Pokemon, Falkner didn't intend to be polite to Ash anymore, "Hoothoot, use Peck!"

Hoothoot flew up, spinning its body to attack Gholdengo.

Ash said unhurriedly: "Gholdengo, use Confuse Ray."

Gholdengo's pair of golden bean-like eyes lit up with black and purple light. After being hit by Confuse Ray, Hoothoot immediately changed the direction of its attack and started pecking at the ground.

"Is this an unknown Steel-type + Ghost-type Pokemon?"

Falkner accurately determined Gholdengo's type through Gholdengo's gold-like body and the power of its moves.

"Hoothoot, pull yourself together, use Foresight!"

Upon hearing Falkner's words, Hoothoot's eyes shone like flashlights, emitting red light.

"It's useless. Gholdengo, use Thunder Punch to finish it!"

Gholdengo ran forward, lightning flashing on its right hand, and with one punch, it knocked the Hoothoot that was just trying to take flight to the ground.
