Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: The Plagiarism Protocol

The neon city of the Apex Sector was a forest of "Commercial Logic."

Gigantic holograms of legendary heroes from a thousand different genres flickered against the artificial clouds. To the left, a cultivation master in flowing silk robes meditated atop a skyscraper made of pure jade. To the right, a mecha-pilot with a glowing visor tested the thrusters of a machine that stood taller than the Institute of Valerius.

"Lulu, the atmosphere here is... it's dense," Theo whispered, his eyes widening as he checked the dials on his telescope. "It's not mana. It's 'Monetization'. Every breath we take is being calculated against our 'Potential Revenue'. If we don't start generating clicks, the air itself will become a 'Paywall'."

Alexandros stood at the prow, his hand gripping the bone-staff. The neon lights of the city were being sucked into the porous surface of the Architect's ribs, turning the white chalk into a pulsing, electric violet. He felt the weight of the "Premium Layer" pressing down on his shoulders. This wasn't the "Order" of the Paladin or the "Chaos" of the Preamble. This was the "Market."

"The Man in White is moving," Seraphina said, her pale gold light sharpening into a defensive aura.

Across the neon gap, the ship of "Pure Light" began to accelerate. Its hull was made of polished marble and "Righteous Indignation." The Man in White stood at the front, his sword—a literal beam of "Holy Canon"—pointing directly at Alexandros's chest.

"I am Han-Sol of the Seven Heavens!" the man roared, his voice amplified by a "Protagonist Shout" buff. "My novel has three thousand chapters and a five-star rating! Your 'Metaphysical Drama' is a stain on the Top 100! Prepare to be 'Condensed' into a side-story!"

[STAKES: THE WINNER ABSORBS THE LOSER'S 'GENRE TAGS']

Han-Sol leaped from his ship, his white robes trailing a path of "Divine Sparkles." He didn't fall; he "Ascended" through the air, his sword growing in size until it was a fifty-foot pillar of "Anti-Evil" light.

"Lulu, he's using 'Absolute Certainty'!" the Author screamed, his fingers flying across the smartphone screen. "In his genre, the hero always wins the first exchange! If you try to block him with 'Reason', the System will 'Critical Hit' you for being 'Unrealistic'!"

Alexandros looked at the descending pillar of light. He felt the "Holy" logic trying to force him into the role of a "Demon Lord." The System wanted him to be the "Villain" so Han-Sol could have a "Satisfying Victory."

"I won't be your 'XP-Farm'," Alexandros hissed.

He didn't raise his staff to block. He reached into the "Iridescent Ink" in his blood and pulled out a "Plot Hole."

Logic: The Plagiarism Protocol.

Alexandros didn't use the magic of Erebos. He "Borrowed" the logic of a "Grim-Dark Thriller." He projected a field of "Nihilism" around the impact point. He forced the "Holy Light" to encounter a world where "Good Intentions" lead to "Horrible Consequences."

The fifty-foot pillar of light hit the "Nihilism" field and... it paused. The "Absolute Certainty" of the Seven Heavens began to flicker. The bright white glow turned a muddy, cynical grey.

"What... what is this?" Han-Sol gasped, his momentum stalling in mid-air. "My sword... it feels... depressed?"

"It's called 'Subverting Expectations'!" Alexandros shouted.

He lunged forward, his bone-staff humming with the stolen neon energy. He didn't strike Han-Sol's body. He struck the "Sword of Holy Canon."

As the staff touched the light, Alexandros "Injected" a series of "Contradictory Character Flaws" into Han-Sol's blade. He gave the sword a "Secret Lust for Power." He gave it a "Crisis of Faith." He "Plagiarized" the internal monologue of a "Corrupt Inquisitor."

The holy blade shattered. Not into shards of light, but into "Black-Ink Redactions."

Han-Sol fell to the deck of the Valerius, his white robes stained with the "Grim-Dark" soot. He looked at his hands, which were now shaking with a very human, very un-heroic doubt.

"I... I can't be failing," Han-Sol whispered, his blue eyes losing their "Protagonist Glow." "The prophecy said... the Master said..."

"The Master was a 'Lazy Plot Device'!" Alexandros said, standing over him.

He pointed the bone-staff at Han-Sol's heart. He didn't fire an Abyssal blast. He "Uploaded" the memory of the "Deleted Timeline." He showed Han-Sol the face of the Old Alexandros—the hero who had done everything right and still lost.

"Your 'Ascension' is built on 'Plot Armor'," Alexandros told him. "And out here in the Premium Layer, armor is just a 'Skin'. I'm going to 'Refund' your entire character arc."

The Seven Heavens ship began to dissolve. Its polished marble turned into "Unused Text," and its "Holy" aura was sucked into the Institute of Valerius.

Alexandros felt the "Genre Tags" entering the ship's hull.

[NEW TAG ACQUIRED: 'HEAVENLY LUCK']

[NEW TAG ACQUIRED: 'OVERPOWERED START']

[NEW TAG ACQUIRED: 'CULTIVATION SYSTEM']

"Lulu, the ship... it's growing wings!" Theo shouted.

Two massive, feathered wings made of "Divine Prose" erupted from the sides of the Star-Ship. The stone hull turned into "Enchanted Jade," and the students' staves were suddenly tipped with "Spirit Stones."

"We're 'Ascending'!" Seraphina cried, her pale gold light merging with the "Holy" fragments. She looked radiant, but her eyes held a new, predatory sharpness. "Alexandros, I can see the 'Ley Lines' of the Apex Sector. I can see the 'Final Boss' at the top of the tower."

At the center of the Neon City, the "Coliseum of Digital Gold" began to transform. It turned into a "Heavenly Palace" that pierced the artificial clouds. At the very top, a single figure sat on a throne of "Five-Star Reviews."

It was a boy. He looked no older than twelve, wearing a "Gaming Headset" made of "Pure Concept." He held a "Controller" that was connected to the "Core Code" of the Apex Sector.

"The Whale," the Author whispered, his voice full of a religious dread. "The 'Top-Tier Reader' who pays for the entire server. He's the 'Final Boss' of the Tournament."

The boy on the throne looked down at the Institute of Valerius. He didn't use a sword or a spell. He "Double-Clicked" on the ship.

Suddenly, a massive, translucent "Selection Box" appeared around the Valerius.

[USER: 'GIGA-WHALE-99' HAS PURCHASED AN 'INTERRUPTION' EVENT]

[EVENT: 'THE HAREM INVASION']

"What?" Alexandros gasped.

The sky above the ship opened, and dozens of "Beautiful Female Antagonists" began to rain down on the deck. They weren't soldiers; they were "Romance Tropes." One was a "Tsundere Elf," another was a "Yandere Assassin," and a third was a "Clumsy Maid with a Secret Power."

"They're 'Distractions'!" the Author screamed. "The Whale is bored! He's trying to turn our 'Dark Fantasy' into a 'Trashy Harem' to see how we react!"

The "Tsundere Elf" landed in front of Alexandros, her face flushing a deep, scripted red. "It's not like I wanted to 'Invade' your ship, b-baka! But the System told me to 'Seduce' you!"

Alexandros looked at the Elf, then at Seraphina, who was currently charging a "Heavenly Light" blast in her palm.

"Sera, don't!" Alexandros shouted. "If you kill them, the Whale will just buy 'Revive Scrolls'! We have to 'Bore' him!"

"Bore a Whale?" Seraphina asked, her eyes flashing. "How?"

"We 'De-Sexualize' the scene!" Alexandros commanded. "Theo! Castor! Start a 'Lecture on Advanced Calculus'! Right now!"

The deck of the Institute of Valerius became a "Classroom."

Instead of a "Harem Battle," the students sat down and began to solve complex equations on the "Jade" floor. Theo stood at the prow and began a three-hour monologue on the "Sociopolitical Implications of Mana-Taxes in the Third Era."

The "Tsundere Elf" paused, her hand halfway to her "Unbuttoned" bodice. The "Yandere Assassin" lowered her blade, looking confused. There was no "Ecchi" logic for them to follow. There was no "Protag-Heat."

There was only... "Academic Rigor."

[USER: 'GIGA-WHALE-99' IS LOSING INTEREST...]

The selection box around the ship flickered and vanished. The "Harem" characters began to fade, their "Generic Personalities" unable to survive in an environment of "High Intellectualism."

"It's working!" the Author gasped. "The Whale is looking for a different novel to 'Sponsor'!"

But as the Whale turned his gaze away, a new, much larger "Window" appeared in the sky.

[THE PLATFORM MODERATOR: THE EDITOR HAS ENTERED THE CHAT]

[EDITOR: 'YOU ARE PURPOSEFULLY TROLLING THE TOP-TIER SPONSOR. THIS IS A TERMINABLE OFFENSE.']

The Neon City began to "Glitch." The skyscrapers turned back into "Wireframes." The "Heavenly Palace" dissolved into "Red Text."

"The 'Editor' is coming for us personally," Alexandros said, his eyes reflecting the "Digital Gold" of the falling city. "And she's not bringing a 'Troop'. She's bringing the 'Delete' key."

He looked at the Author's "Smartphone," which was now glowing with a "Physicality Bar." The Author was almost "Real."

"Author, give me the 'Login Credentials'," Alexandros commanded.

"What?" the Author asked, his eyes wide.

"I'm going to 'Log In' as the 'Creator'," Alexandros said. "And I'm going to 'Ban' the Moderator."
