Chapter 237: The Ultimate Spec-Ops Squad!
The comms cut out.
The young Kure powerhouse, Reiichi, crossed his arms and looked at Fusui. "Your
boyfriend is still in the building?"
Fusui nodded. She was busy adjusting her binoculars and a portable monitoring
suite, scanning both Ren's bodycam feed and the heat signatures of the
skyscraper. "Ren-chin is hunting Sikorsky."
"Oh, that convict?" Reiichi scratched his head. "Well, between your boyfriend,
your big brother, the Underground Arena Champion, and now the 'God of War'
Gaia... they're all looking for the same guy."
He let out a long, pitying sigh. "I have a feeling Sikorsky is about to get a
lesson he won't live to remember."
Though Gaia's existence was technically a top-tier military secret, Reiichi—as a
front-line combatant for the Kure Clan—was privy to the classified files of the
world's most dangerous men.
"Anyway, the heavy lifting should be over soon, right?" Reiichi looked up at the
stars. "With Gaia and Raian both in there, I can't imagine them losing.
Unless..."
Reiichi's expression turned pained. "Unless they start having too much fun and
decide to start a war with each other."
Fusui shrugged, her eyes never leaving her screens. "It's a warzone, Reiichi. In
a war, anything can happen."
"Mm..." Reiichi shook his head. He felt like he had asked a redundant question.
He let out a long breath. "I just hope there isn't any more drama tonight."
Fusui suddenly remembered something. "Oh right. Karura just proposed inside the
building."
Reiichi: "..."
He stole a nervous glance at Erio Kure—the world's most dangerous
Great-Granddaughter-con.
Reiichi: "..."
Abort! Abort! A much bigger disaster is coming!
On the other side of the perimeter, Biscuit Oliva was feeling a bit slighted. He
didn't know much about this "Gaia" person and assumed the MPD was just trying to
save face by calling in "reinforcements."
"The night is getting old, Sonoda. Don't you want to go home and sleep?"
Oliva offered a confident smirk. "Relax. I can dismantle the rest of this
building's trash all by myself."
Official Sonoda's expression remained grim. "I'm not being polite, Oliva-san.
I'm being honest."
Oliva arched an eyebrow, putting his hands on his hips. "This 'Gaia'... just who
exactly is he?"
Sonoda opened his mouth to explain, but found the words insufficient.
At that moment, a patrol officer ran over, holding a tactical radio with a
sticky note attached. On the note, written in perfect English:
"―to Mr. Unchained."
Oliva took the radio. A voice crackled through the speaker. "Welcome to Tokyo,
Unchained. Thank you for the assist with the civilians."
Oliva smiled. "No need for thanks. Are you Gaia?"
"Gaia is our Captain. I'm Kuraishi," the voice replied leisurely. "I see you've
been wounded. Hit by a shotgun? Though the pellets only grazed the surface,
you're bleeding. Are you alright?"
"Heh..."
Oliva used a bottle of water to wash the blood from his arm. The bean-sized
punctures had already scabbed over, and some were visibly closing. This
hyper-accelerated healing was a gift from his own monstrous biology.
"Scratches like these are nothing. A few steaks and a bottle of red wine, and
I'll be good as new. Honestly, talking about it is making me hungry."
Kuraishi laughed over the radio. "Haha! Hungry, are you? Perfect timing. We have
a gift for you. It should be arriving right... about... now."
As he spoke, a medium-sized freezer truck pulled up, escorted by a soldier in a
nondescript uniform. After receiving Sonoda's clearance, it stopped directly in
front of Oliva.
"Oliva-san, a gift from the Gaia Squad."
The driver hit a switch, and the hydraulic rear doors hissed open.
Sssss—!
The group stared into the cloud of freezing white mist. As it cleared, the
corpse of a Giant Bear was revealed. It was a horrific sight: its flesh was
torn, its bones had been snapped with such force they had punctured through the
thick hide, and its tongue lolled out of its mangled jaw.
Standing, the beast would have been at least seven meters tall and weighed well
over six tons. It was a prehistoric nightmare—a monster that would make an
experienced hunter drop his rifle and pray for a quick death. It was a creature
capable of flipping a main battle tank.
And yet, it had been systematically dismantled. Its joints were twisted into
unnatural knots, and deep, precision lacerations covered its body. It had been
slaughtered with surgical brutality.
"Oho!"
Oliva's eyebrows shot up. "The blood hasn't even fully frozen yet. This was
caught quite recently. How thoughtful."
Kuraishi's voice returned to the radio. "That man-eater wandered out of the
mountains and destroyed a village, killing several residents. Captain Gaia
decided to retire him."
"You mentioned you liked steak? My apologies, I can't afford high-grade Wagyu on
a soldier's salary. But we have plenty of 'Bear Meat' to go around. Consider it
a local specialty."
"A small token of our appreciation for protecting the city. Enjoy."
With that, Kuraishi cut the line.
"Hm...!"
Oliva understood the subtext. This was a gift, yes, but it was also a "Business
Card." It was Gaia's way of showing his level of power.
Oliva turned to Sonoda, looking genuinely intrigued. "Sonoda, do you have anyone
on your force who knows how to prep bear meat? I'll provide the wine."
Sonoda let out a massive sigh of relief. If Oliva and Gaia had both gone into
that building, the skyscraper would have been leveled. At least this way, one of
the monsters was staying outside to have a barbecue.
Meanwhile, at the Kure Clan's command post...
Under Erio's orders, the other Kure members had evacuated the building, leaving
only Raian inside to "clean up." The Patriarch was still fuming. Anyone who
dared touch the Clan's "Jewel"—intentionally or not—needed to be taught a lesson
in agony.
"Don't ever pull a stunt like that again, Karu-chan! Grandpa almost had a heart
attack!"
The withered old man clutched his great-granddaughter, refusing to let her out
of his sight. He looked over at Karura's friends: Arisa and Hina Hongo.
Good. All girls, Erio thought, feeling his heart rate stabilize.
He then looked at Marco. The boy is a male, but our data says his mental age is
that of a primary schooler. He poses no threat to Karura's virtue.
Erio finally felt at peace. He wasn't about to let some punk boy steal his
favorite girl away.
Suddenly, Karura spoke up. "Grandpa..."
"Yes, yes, my sweet?" Erio leaned in, his ears perked.
Karura blushed slightly, her eyes sparkling. "I've finally found the one. His
name is Ohma Tokita. I just proposed to him!"
Erio Kure: "..." Erio Kure: "..." Erio Kure: "――!!"
Thanks to the freezing air coming from the open freezer truck nearby, Erio's
blood pressure narrowly avoided causing his head to explode. He stood frozen for
a long minute before forcing a terrifying, "kind" smile.
"Is that so? That... that's wonderful, Karu-chan."
"Heh... heh-heh... we'll talk more about it later. You go rest now."
He gently rubbed Karura's head and signaled for the other Kure members to take
her to a safe distance. The moment Karura was gone and Reiichi moved in to
provide cover, Erio's face transformed into a mask of pure, demonic fury. He
tightened his fists, his voice a low, vibrating snarl.
"THAT DAMN BRAT—!!"
The force of his aura was so intense that without even stomping, his feet sank
inches into the reinforced pavement.
"Ohma Tokita... is it?"
Erio snatched up his radio. Before he could even speak, Raian's maniacal
laughter filled the channel. He had obviously heard the whole exchange.
"Gyahahahaha! Fusui wasn't enough? Now the little brat Karura is starting too?!
Ohma is a dead man walking!"
Reiichi whispered frantically into his own mic, "Raian, shut up! Grandpa is
about to go Super Saiyan!"
"I DON'T CARE! IT'S NOT THE SAME! IT'S COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!"
Erio gave up on logic and embraced his inner petty old man. His black-sclera
eyes were bloodshot as he screamed into the radio: "Raian! Find Ohma Tokita and
ERASE HIM! Don't leave a single scrap of him left!!"
Oliva was about to dig into some bear-meat tartare when he heard the commotion
from the Kure camp.
"What a spirited old man. He's in great shape."
He looked toward the hotel and asked Sonoda, "By the way, Gaia still hasn't
shown up?"
Sonoda replied, "The Gaia Squad is already inside."
Oliva blinked. "Eh? I've been watching the entrance. No one went in."
"That is exactly why they are the 'Strongest Spec-Ops Squad' in existence."
Cold sweat appeared on Sonoda's brow.
"According to the legends... even against a 400-man company, they can eliminate
every target without ever being heard or seen. They win wars before the enemy
knows a battle has started."
6th Floor.
Ren Shiroki climbed the stairs, hearing the sound of a struggle coming from
around the corner. He followed the noise and came face-to-face with a familiar
silhouette.
A muscular youth with spiky blonde hair and black-and-white eyes. Raian Kure.
Raian had just finished tearing a hitman apart. Sensing movement behind him, he
turned and saw Ren. A wide, jagged grin split his face.
"Gyahahahaha!"
Raian wiped the blood from his hands onto the wallpaper, walking toward Ren with
a predatory swagger. "Long time no see. I guess this is our first official
introduction, huh?"
"Indeed."
Ren rubbed his chin, recalling their "encounter" at the Dome. "Last time was at
the Underground Arena... sorry about that. I kind of fell asleep during your big
moment."
