The wind moved silently through the ancient forest.
Tall trees stretched toward the sky like giant pillars, their leaves whispering secrets to the night. The moonlight struggled to reach the ground, leaving most of the forest covered in deep shadows.
Aiden walked carefully along the narrow path, his hand resting on the handle of his sword.
Behind him, Kael followed quietly, his sharp eyes scanning the darkness around them.
Something felt wrong.
Very wrong.
"Do you feel it?" Aiden whispered.
Kael nodded slowly.
"The forest is too quiet."
Normally, the forest would be full of life—crickets singing, birds calling, animals moving through the bushes.
But tonight…
Nothing.
No sound.
No movement.
Just silence.
Aiden's grip tightened on his sword.
"This place feels like a trap," he said.
Kael stopped walking.
Then he slowly crouched and touched the ground.
His fingers brushed against the soil.
A moment later, his eyes narrowed.
"Footprints," he said quietly.
Aiden leaned closer.
"How many?"
Kael studied the ground carefully.
"Too many."
A cold feeling crept down Aiden's spine.
Bandits?
Hunters?
Or something worse?
Before Aiden could ask another question—
CRACK!
A branch snapped behind them.
Both boys reacted instantly.
SHING!
Their swords flashed out of their scabbards.
Aiden turned toward the sound.
"Who's there?!" he shouted.
No answer.
Only the wind moving through the trees.
Kael stepped forward slowly.
"Stay alert," he said.
The shadows around them seemed to move.
Aiden's heart started beating faster.
Something was watching them.
He could feel it.
Suddenly—
WHOOSH!
An arrow shot out of the darkness.
CLANG!
Kael swung his sword, deflecting it instantly.
"Ambush!" Kael shouted.
More arrows flew from the trees.
Aiden leaped behind a rock as arrows struck the ground around him.
"Damn it!" he said.
Figures began appearing between the trees.
Dark cloaks.
Masked faces.
Bandits.
At least ten of them.
One of the bandits stepped forward, laughing.
"Well well… looks like we caught ourselves two little swordsmen."
The bandit leader held a massive axe across his shoulder.
His scarred face twisted into a cruel smile.
"Boys like you shouldn't wander into this forest."
Aiden stood up slowly.
His sword gleamed in the moonlight.
"You should leave," Aiden said calmly.
The bandits burst into laughter.
"Did you hear that?" one of them said.
"The kid thinks he's a hero!"
The leader stepped closer.
"Drop your weapons and maybe we'll let you live."
Kael glanced at Aiden.
Aiden smirked slightly.
"Kael."
"Yes?"
"How many do you want?"
Kael looked at the bandits calmly.
"Five."
Aiden nodded.
"I'll take the rest."
For a moment, the forest went silent.
Then the bandits exploded with laughter.
"You hear that?!" one shouted.
"These kids think they can fight us!"
The leader raised his axe.
"Kill them!"
The bandits charged.
But Aiden and Kael moved faster.
WHOOSH!
Aiden dashed forward like lightning.
His sword flashed through the air.
CLANG!
One bandit's sword flew out of his hand.
Before the man could react—
THUD!
Aiden kicked him hard in the chest, sending him crashing into a tree.
At the same time—
SHING!
Kael's blade moved like flowing water.
Two bandits attacked him together.
Their swords came down at the same time.
CLANG!
Kael blocked both strikes effortlessly.
Then his blade flashed again.
SLASH!
One bandit's weapon shattered.
The man stumbled back in shock.
"Impossible!" he gasped.
But Kael didn't stop.
Within seconds, three bandits were already on the ground.
The leader's smile disappeared.
"These kids…" he muttered.
"They're not normal."
Aiden wiped blood from his blade.
"You're slow," he told Kael.
Kael rolled his eyes.
"You're talking too much."
The remaining bandits hesitated.
Fear began creeping into their eyes.
But the leader roared angrily.
"STOP BEING COWARDS!"
He lifted his massive axe and charged toward Aiden.
"DIE!"
The axe crashed down with terrifying force.
BOOM!
The ground split as the blade struck the earth.
But Aiden had already moved.
He appeared behind the leader.
"Too slow."
SHING!
Aiden's sword slashed forward.
The leader barely managed to block.
CLANG!
The impact sent sparks flying.
The leader's eyes widened.
"Monster…"
He jumped back quickly.
The remaining bandits began retreating.
"This mission wasn't worth it!" one shouted.
"Run!"
Within seconds, the bandits disappeared into the forest.
Silence returned.
Aiden lowered his sword.
"Well… that was easy."
Kael frowned.
"No."
Aiden looked at him.
"What?"
Kael stared deep into the forest.
His expression had suddenly turned serious.
"Those bandits…"
"They weren't the ones watching us."
A cold wind passed through the trees.
Then—
A deep voice echoed from the darkness.
"Well done."
Both boys froze.
A tall figure slowly stepped out from the shadows.
Black armor.
A long dark sword.
And eyes that glowed like burning fire.
The stranger smiled coldly.
"I've finally found you."
Aiden tightened his grip on his sword.
"Who are you?"
The man's smile widened.
"Your nightmare."
The ground trembled as he drew his blade.
Kael whispered quietly.
"Aiden…"
"Yes?"
"This one…"
"…is dangerous."
The stranger raised his sword.
A terrifying aura exploded around him.
And then he said something that made Aiden's blood run cold.
"I am the one sent to kill the future Sword Masters."
