Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Magic basics

After eating Azura and Dave made their way to their next class, the rest of the nobles who had left the class earlier had returned for the next lesson

"Alright class, this lesson will be about magic basics, we will be going over what are unfortunately known as the balls" stated the teacher, chuckles and giggles ringing out from the kids in the classroom "alright calm down I know, balls is funny but it is what the basics are" he said turning to the board

"The 4 most basic spells of the 4 main elements are as such; for fire we have the fireball, for water we have water ball, for earth we have earth ball and for wind we have wind ball" he said splitting the board into 4 sections, each one with an element in it

"Sir" commented one of the students "I've never heard of earth ball, my family calls it earth shot"

"That is a good thing to bring up" praised the teacher "although I have called all of the attacks balls this is only because it is the easiest way to generalise them as they all take on a similar form and are created in a similar way just using a different element for each"

"Does anyone else know any other names for the different spells" he asked

"Wind blast"

"Water gun"

"Rubble sphere"

"Flame orb"

"All wonderful exapmples" the teacher commented "now as you all probably know some people only have to say the words like this to use magic, whereas others have to say a whole spell in order to achieve the same effect and in some rare cases there are people who are able to cast magic spells without even saying a word, does anyone know the reasoning behind this?" he questioned

"Sir, from what my father has told me it is due to magic being based on a mental image and that the more words that are required in a spell the easier it is for a mental image to form of it, as such those who are more powerful are usually people who have an easier time imagining the form of the spell and therefor require less words to perform the same spell" answered Azura

"A perfect answer ms Inferno" exclaimed the teacher "as ms Inferno has said magic is based more on mental images rather than pronunciations, this is also why there are multiple names for the same spell as the different names have been used by people who prefered to use their version of the spell as it allows them to imagine what the spell looks like better and therefor cast the spell faster than if they were using a different name for the spell"

"Does this mean that we can come up with our own names for the different spells" asked a student with an excited tone of voice

"If you are able to come up with one that helps you to perform spells better feel free to do so" answered the teacher

"This works out well for me" thought Dave as he came up with a plan "if I put the word generate at the start of a spell I will be able to cast any spell so long as I have the magic theoretically"

"The basic spells can also be increased in power by channeling more magic into them" said the teacher, drawing a fireball on the board with the number 5 next to it"for example if I was to use what we have determind to be 5 units of magic to create a fireball, it would be weaker, smaller and slower than one made with 10 units of magic" he said drawing another bigger fireball with the number 10 next to it

"If that's so then why are there more powerful spells that require more magic to use? why not just just channel more more magic into the basic spells and make them the same level?" asked a female student

"Another excellant question" praised the teacher "the reason is because as you channel more magic into the basic spells they become more unstable and are not as efficient, as such a fireball that would be 10 times more powerful than a regular fireball would require 20 times the magical energy and would require much more control to prevent it from destabilizing"

"I wonder if that would still be the case with my system controlling and creating the magic as I don't know if I would be considered as the one who needs to control it" thought Dave

"The energy required to control the spell would be incorperated into the cost of the generation" Gen informed him "as such even though it would be more cost effective than a normal person casting the same spell it would not be efficient enough to be worth it still"

"There are some examples of basic spells being stronger yet more cost effective than using more powerful spells, the most obvious example of which would be bloodline magic such as ms Inferno's Azura flames making her fireball more powerful than a normal persons" he declared motioning to Azura

"Another example is with people with rarer elements or combined elements, for example mr Spark who has electricity as his main element allowing him to use spark which is on the same level as fireball but is considered more powerful as a rarer element or like mr Gales who has a comvination of wind and fire which uses the wind to boost his fire ability which makes his fireballs alot more powerful with only a small amount of extra magic to create a more powerful fireball" stated the teacher

"Of course, only luck can make a commoner stronger whereas bloodline truely makes us nobles more powerful and worthy of being above everyone else" Grady smiled

Just then the bell rung signalling the end of the lesson "now then the next lesson will be a practical application of what we have learned in this lesson so please everyone change into your gym clothes and meet the teacher on the field" the teacher infromed everyone as the left the classroom.
