No, what she assumed was, for someone like Czar, being the boss of a syndicate meant you only took the position after the previous boss was… well, out of the picture. Dead, most likely. That was how it had gone with the Mancini brothers after all. Once their father died, all hell broke loose and the power struggle began.
Apparently, she had been wrong. Czar's father was not only alive, but still very much a presence in their world even though Czar was the one in charge now.
"He handed over the position when the boss was twenty," David explained, his eyes on the road as they headed back toward headquarters. It was late afternoon, Roseanne's workday finally over. "Or so I heard," he added.
"Why?" Roseanne couldn't help her curiosity.
David shrugged. "I'm not sure, Ms. Leclair. I wasn't around back then. I only know what the others say. Maybe you should ask Captain. Or, Mr. Hawke and his son? They've been with the family the longest."
