The day finally arrived. Kaden's first day at his new school.
Avery, the temporary teacher who had been so patient and encouraging, had said her goodbyes the day before.
Now, as the autumn wind rattled softly against the windows, Roseanne found herself more anxious than she had ever expected, caught up in the nerves that seemed to grip every mother on such a milestone morning.
Kaden was in high spirits, dressing himself with a look of determined excitement. He chose off-white trousers and a shirt in a similar shade, layering a baby blue sweater over the top.
With the season turning chilly, Roseanne insisted he also wear a navy puffer jacket and wrapped a thick shawl around his neck in matching blue hues. He looked so small and so grown-up at once, his cheeks rosy, his eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Roseanne double-checked every detail, fussing over his backpack.
"Did you not forget anything?" she asked, her hands busy inspecting the contents for the third time.
