Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: The Sovereign Forge

The "Void-Fever" was a localized storm inside Lin Wei's veins. Every breath felt like inhaling powdered glass, and his vision flickered between the physical world and the raw data-stream of the Warden Protocol. But as the 3,000 Sovereign Points hummed in the center of his chest, the pain was a secondary concern.

He stood in the center of the Keep's courtyard, surrounded by Han Ye, General Yan, and the trembling Prince Jue. They stayed back, kept at bay by the aura of Peak Core Formation that radiated off Lin Wei like heat from a dying star.

"System," Lin Wei thought, his violet eyes tracking the invisible lines of Qi that now tethered every person in the courtyard to the North. "The 'Sovereign Forge'—show me what I can build to stabilize this chaos. We can't rely on me being a living battery forever."

[Sovereign Forge: Tier 1 - Warden's Foundations]

The Obsidian Pylon (Infrastructure): A spiritual lightning rod that harvests ambient Void-leaks and converts them into stable Northern Qi for all residents. (Cost: 1,500 Points)

Armory of the Grey (Warfare): Equips the Grey Guard with 'Void-Etched' gear that grows in power with the wearer's cultivation. (Cost: 1,000 Points)

The Archive of the Unbound (Knowledge): A mental library that allows 1-star and 2-star cultivators to 'bypass' traditional meridian bottlenecks using the System's manual synchronization data. (Cost: 2,000 Points)

Sentinel Upgrade: The Iron Warden: Transforms the automated defense constructs into semi-sentient protectors capable of Mid-Stage Core Formation combat. (Cost: 2,500 Points)

Lin Wei looked at the refugees. Han Ye's students were shivering, their manual Qi circulation struggling against the Absolute Zero temperatures of the New Winter. Prince Jue's Imperial survivors were even worse—their foundations were cracking like dry clay.

"If I don't give them a way to survive, I'm just a king of a graveyard," Lin Wei realized.

"System," he commanded. "Construct the Obsidian Pylon and the Archive of the Unbound. I'll take the Debt for the remaining 500 points."

[Warning: Taking additional Debt will extend 'Void-Fever' by 14 days and permanently reduce your Fire-Resistance by 5%. Proceed?]

"The North is made of ice. I don't need fire-resistance. Proceed."

[Debt Authorized. 3,500 Points Allocated.]

[Initializing Forge: THE SOVEREIGN ASCENSION.]

Suddenly, the Great Northern Keep groaned. In the center of the courtyard, the earth split open, and a pillar of jagged, obsidian-colored glass shot a hundred feet into the air. It didn't pulse with the aggressive gold of the Siphon; it breathed with a soft, deep violet light.

As the Obsidian Pylon stabilized, the temperature in the Keep didn't rise, but the sting of the cold vanished. The "Siphon-Sickness" affecting the Imperial soldiers stopped instantly. Their graying skin regained its color as the Pylon began to feed them a steady, filtered stream of Void-Qi.

Simultaneously, a shimmering blue wave erupted from the Pylon, washing over every student and soldier.

[The Archive of the Unbound: Integrated.]

[Status: All Northern residents now possess 'System-Lite' Assisted Meditation.]

Han Ye gasped, his hands flying to his head. "Wei... what is this? I can see... I can see the path! The bottleneck at the 9th Layer... It's not a wall anymore. It's a door."

"It's the future, Han," Lin Wei said, his voice sounding like two grinding glaciers.

He turned to Prince Jue, who was staring at the Pylon in a mixture of horror and awe. "Your father built an Empire by stealing from the sun. I'm building a world by taming the dark. Tell your people to enter the Archive. If they want to live, they must learn to be Wardens."

Jue looked at the Pylon, then back at Lin Wei. "You're giving away the 'Void-Warmth'? For free? Without a blood-contract?"

"The contract is the North itself," Lin Wei replied. "If the Keep falls, everyone dies. That's the only contract I need."

[Notification: Sovereign Level Increased!]

[Current Status: Warden of the North (Level 2).]

[New Feature Unlocked: 'The Rift-Watch'.]

Suddenly, the System's blue screen turned a violent, flashing red.

[WARNING: 'The Rift-Watch' has detected a high-level anomaly.]

[Location: The Southern Capital.]

[Analysis: Prince Lin Jue's urn of 'Minister's Ashes' is not a tribute. It is a 'Beacon'.]

Lin Wei's gaze snapped to the obsidian urn Jue had placed in the snow earlier. The "ashes" weren't gray—they were turning a parasitic, metallic red.

"Jue," Lin Wei growled, his hand erupting in a violet-white flame. "What did you bring into my house?"

The Prince's face went pale. "I... I didn't know! They told me it was a tribute! They said it would honor the ancestors!"

From the urn, a pillar of red smoke erupted, forming a silhouette that Lin Wei recognized with a jolt of pure fury. It was the Shadow Master's signature, but refined. It wasn't a fragment—it was a Summoning Gate.

[Target Identified: Shadow-Emissary 'Vahl'.]

[Combat Power: Mid-Stage Core Formation.]

[Notice: The Emissary is attempting to 'Hijack' the Obsidian Pylon.]

"Yan! Han! Protect the Pylon!" Lin Wei roared, launching himself toward the red smoke. "System, I'm in no condition for a long fight. Give me a 'Quick-Kill' option for 0 points!"

[Analyzing...]

[Option Found: 'The Warden's Execution'.]

[Requirement: Plunge your hand into the Gate and manually trigger a 'Void-Collapse'.]

[Risk: 80% chance of losing your left arm.]

Lin Wei didn't hesitate. He thrust his left hand directly into the swirling red vortex of the urn. "I've already lost my soul to this North. You think I care about an arm?"

As the red smoke shrieked, the courtyard of the Great Northern Keep turned into a battlefield of shadow and violet light. The system's chime was the only sound in Lin Wei's ears—a steady, digital heartbeat in a world of screaming ghosts.

[Void-Collapse: INITIATED.]
