Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: The Elders of the Valley

Winter arrived gently.

Unlike the harsh winters beyond the Hidden Valley, the valley remained vibrant.

Ancient trees stood proudly beneath a blanket of silver frost.

The river flowed as peacefully as ever.

Even the air carried an indescribable serenity.

Kieran, now nearly eleven years old, sheathed his wooden sword after completing his morning training.

His once childlike movements had become smooth and disciplined.

Though still young, months of relentless practice had strengthened his body considerably.

Not bulky.

Not imposing.

Simply... balanced.

Crystal watched from the porch.

"You've improved."

Kieran smiled brightly.

"I finally blocked one of Uncle Kael's attacks."

Kael, who had just returned carrying two massive boars over his shoulders, burst into laughter.

"You blocked one."

"You forgot to mention the other ninety-nine."

Kieran scratched the back of his head sheepishly.

"...Details."

Crystal chuckled softly.

"Progress is still progress."

---

That afternoon...

Crystal stood before the cottage with an unusually solemn expression.

"Kieran."

"Today, I will take you somewhere I have never allowed you to visit."

His sapphire-blue eyes lit up.

"Really?"

She nodded.

"But remember..."

"No matter what you see."

"No matter what you hear."

"You will remain respectful."

Kieran immediately straightened.

"Yes, Mama."

---

The journey lasted several hours.

For the first time in years...

They walked deeper into the Hidden Valley than ever before.

The scenery gradually changed.

The ancient trees became unimaginably large.

Their trunks were wider than castles.

The Magna in the surroundings became denser.

Even breathing felt refreshing.

Kieran noticed countless beasts observing them from afar.

None attacked.

Instead...

They bowed their heads toward Crystal.

He couldn't hide his surprise.

"They know you."

Crystal smiled faintly.

"No."

"They know this valley."

---

Eventually...

They arrived before a colossal lake.

Its water was so clear that it reflected the heavens perfectly.

Standing beside the lake was an enormous white stag.

Its antlers resembled polished crystal.

Golden runes shimmered faintly across its body.

Nearby rested a giant black tortoise whose shell resembled a mountain.

Above them...

A silver eagle circled silently.

The pressure each beast emitted surpassed anything Kieran had ever experienced.

Yet...

None displayed hostility.

Only calm dignity.

---

The white stag stepped forward first.

Its voice echoed directly within Kieran's mind.

**"So..."

"The little one has finally come."**

Kieran froze.

"...It talked."

Kael laughed heartily.

"They've been talking long before humans learned to write."

Crystal stepped forward and inclined her head slightly.

"It has been many years."

The three great beasts returned the gesture.

Not as subordinates.

As equals.

---

Kieran's eyes widened.

He had never seen Crystal greet anyone that way.

The white stag looked at him carefully.

Its golden eyes seemed capable of seeing through everything.

"Your heart is peaceful."

"Yet your destiny is not."

Before Kieran could respond...

The giant tortoise opened one eye.

Its voice was slow and ancient.

"Do not burden the child with futures yet to come."

The stag smiled.

"Very well."

---

The silver eagle descended gracefully.

It landed before Kieran.

Its wings stretched nearly twenty meters wide.

Despite its intimidating size...

It gently lowered its head.

Kieran instinctively bowed in return.

The eagle's sharp eyes softened.

"Polite."

"Good."

---

Crystal looked toward Kieran.

"These three..."

"...are among the oldest inhabitants of this valley."

"They watched over this place long before I arrived."

Kieran blinked.

"Older than you?"

Kael couldn't help but grin.

"Oh..."

"Be careful asking a woman her age."

Crystal calmly stepped on his foot.

Crunch.

Kael's face immediately turned pale.

"...I deserved that."

The great beasts simply watched the familiar exchange in silence.

Then...

For the first time in centuries...

The giant tortoise laughed.

It was slow.

Deep.

Like distant thunder rolling across the mountains.

---

After the laughter subsided...

The white stag approached Kieran once more.

It lowered its head until its antlers were within his reach.

"Hmm?"

Kieran looked at Crystal.

She nodded.

"You may."

Carefully...

Kieran reached out and touched one of the crystal-like antlers.

The moment his fingers made contact...

He closed his eyes instinctively.

He heard it.

Not words.

Not thoughts.

But a feeling.

Time.

Endurance.

Patience.

The memories of countless seasons carried by a single living being.

When he opened his eyes again...

The stag had stepped back.

Its gaze held unmistakable approval.

"He listens."

The tortoise nodded slowly.

"As expected."

The eagle folded its wings.

"Perhaps..."

"...there is hope after all."

Crystal noticed their exchange.

She didn't interrupt.

Some conversations...

Were not meant for her.

---

As the sun began to set...

The three ancient beasts watched the trio depart.

The tortoise spoke first.

"Will you tell him?"

The white stag slowly shook its head.

"Not yet."

The eagle gazed toward the crimson horizon.

"The world beyond the valley is beginning to stir."

"When the child leaves..."

"...nothing will remain the same."

Silence returned to the ancient lake.

Only the ripples upon its surface remained.

Quietly reflecting the three moons rising into the evening sky.

Some destinies...

Could no longer be delayed.
