Chapter 79
Ending the Third Scenario (2)
Kim Dokja explained the entire plan to Arthur step by step, showing him exactly what they had been doing all along.
Arthur listened quietly, without interrupting, his eyes fixed on Kim Dokja while his mind worked swiftly. He didn't need much time to understand—the picture had been clear from the beginning.
"So… I'm the only one left."
Arthur said it calmly.
"Yes, go."
Kim Dokja replied immediately.
Arthur's expression tightened slightly.
"But I don't have a strong relationship with Lee Hyunsung."
Before he could continue—
"Just go, for heaven's sake!"
Jung Heewon snapped impatiently.
Arthur let out a deep sigh, then finally moved toward Lee Hyunsung.
Lee Hyunsung was sitting alone, staring silently at his shield, as if his mind were somewhere far away. His gaze was empty, carrying an unspoken weight.
Arthur sat beside him quietly.
"Arthur? What are you doing here? Have your injuries healed?"
"Yes, they've healed. They weren't as serious as they looked."
He paused for a moment, then added,
"How are you?"
Lee Hyunsung froze for a second.
This was their first real conversation…
A conversation without a mission, without combat, without orders.
"I… I'm fine."
Arthur smiled faintly, then slowly removed his mask, as if he had decided to be honest this time. He took a deep breath.
"Lee Hyunsung… you know?"
"What?"
"Let me tell you an old story. A story that happened to a friend of mine… a long time ago, before this world turned into hell."
Lee Hyunsung's eyes lit up.
He was the kind of person who valued real stories—heavy ones.
{A number of constellations are interested in your story}
Arthur closed his eyes slightly, then began speaking in a calm, steady voice, free of embellishment.
"Long ago… there was a small boy, no older than ten.
He lived a simple, ordinary life. Nothing special about it.
Just like any other child's life. But one day…
He lost his mother."
He paused.
"She didn't die… she left him."
Arthur's voice hardened slightly.
"After that, the father lost his balance. His life collapsed, and he drowned himself in alcohol. Every day, he would come home… and beat the child.
Over and over… until his body turned blue."
Arthur's eyes flickered, as if an old memory had ignited within him.
On the other side, Lee Hyunsung's expression tightened.
A silent anger toward a father he had never known.
"The child had no one.
The mother was gone, and the father became a monster.
But… there was one person."
Arthur raised his head slightly.
"A friend.
A friend who always came, talked to him, made him laugh, listened to him… and gave him something that felt like safety."
He fell silent for a moment, then continued:
"One day, the father sent his son to the store.
The boy was waiting for his friend when his father began shouting at him.
His body trembled… and then he ran out of the house."
Arthur suddenly stopped.
His aura shifted—heavier, darker—and a faint redness flickered in his eyes.
Lee Hyunsung shuddered unconsciously.
"What happened next?"
he asked in a quiet, tense voice.
Arthur smiled—a calm, tired smile.
"The boy returned after half an hour…
to find that his friend had called the police."
He took a deep breath.
"The friend was there… along with the police.
The drunken father was arrested.
And the child was finally freed from that oppression."
Arthur looked at the shield.
"Because of that friend…
because of that solid shield…
the boy was able to live in peace."
Deep within Arthur, an image passed—one he didn't speak of…
A small child's broken, shattered body.
But it remained buried.
He looked at Lee Hyunsung, who seemed moved… even happy with the story's ending.
"Now…
you are our shield, Lee Hyunsung.
You are our last line of safety.
All of us… including me… rely on you."
Lee Hyunsung's eyes widened.
His face flushed slightly, and he smiled with shy pride.
{The character Lee Hyunsung is waiting for an opportunity to evolve his attribute}
'Finally…'
Kim Dokja smiled as he read the message.
Arthur stood up, patted Lee Hyunsung's shoulder, then quietly returned to his place.
He put his mask back on…
and sealed everything inside once more.
Everyone was moved by the story…
except Kim Dokja and the constellations.
They knew.
This was not the true ending.
{The constellation Demon-like Judge of Fire looks at you with sadness and pain}
{The constellation Prisoner of the Golden Headband sighs quietly}
{The constellation Secretive Plotter enjoyed your short story}
{The constellation Miraculous Narrator wonders: is this not the real ending?}
Kim Dokja noticed the pain hidden in Arthur's eyes… but said nothing.
Arthur raised his head.
"Yes… it's not the real ending."
Then he added with apparent indifference:
"But who cares?
One boy's story is nothing but a drop in an endless sea of stories."
He smiled faintly, then looked at Kim Dokja.
"And now?"
"Lee Gilyoung… did you do what I asked?"
"The swordswoman. First floor."
Kim Dokja smiled, then headed toward Lee Jihye.
After a short while, he returned.
Arthur had already finished cleaning his sword.
"Will you help?"
"Yes."
"Why do we need her in the first place? Is her presence necessary?"
Kim Dokja sighed.
"Honestly… we only need her by thirty percent.
But that thirty percent matters."
He glanced at his phone.
"Alright… it's time."
Arthur, Kim Dokja, and Lee Hyunsung moved together.
Meanwhile, Yoo Sangah, Jung Heewon, and Lee Gilyoung headed in another direction.
Along the way, Lee Hyunsung seemed more confident than ever.
He looked at Arthur.
Arthur smiled beneath his mask.
"Lee Hyunsung."
"Yes?"
"Relax… we're not in the army. No need for all this formality."
Lee Hyunsung laughed for the first time with genuine ease.
"In the past… no one trusted me.
Thank you… for believing in me."
The two smiled.
Kim Dokja said,
"When we finish this…
how about we sit down and talk about our stories?"
They all smiled…
and agreed in silence.
After a few moments, the silence was pierced by the sound of a woman crying bitterly.
At first, it was faint—but it carried enough desperation and fear to tighten the heart.
The three exchanged quick glances, then rushed upward without hesitation.
When they arrived, a grotesque scene unfolded before them.
Jung Pildu's men surrounded a collapsed woman, gripping her violently. Their filthy intentions were clear in their eyes and movements. She trembled in their grasp, crying almost soundlessly, as if she had already lost hope.
A quiet but lethal rage ignited within Arthur—like embers buried beneath ash.
As for Lee Hyunsung, he couldn't hold back.
His anger was raw, violent, shaking his entire body.
Arthur stepped forward—but the memory of Kim Dokja's plan stopped him at the last moment.
"For Lee Hyunsung to evolve…
he has to do it himself."
Lee Hyunsung stepped forward, his voice low and steady, carrying the weight of an irreversible decision:
"Let her go."
A brief silence followed—then one of the men burst out laughing mockingly.
"Hah? What did you say, kid?
Do you dare give me orders?"
Lee Hyunsung didn't answer immediately.
He turned his head slightly, looking at Kim Dokja, then at Arthur—a silent glance, as if asking for permission… or confirmation.
Both nodded calmly.
Lee Hyunsung tightened his grip on the shield until the metal nearly groaned under his hand.
A heavy, solid aura began to gather around him, pressing the air itself and radiating danger.
Before the fight could truly begin—
The entire place shook violently.
A deafening explosion roared, as if the earth itself were screaming.
In that instant, Lee Hyunsung moved.
He lunged forward and slammed his shield with full force, crashing into one of the men and sending him flying into the air, his body smashing into the wall before falling lifeless.
At the same moment, Kim Dokja dashed forward with incredible speed and severed the second man's arms without mercy. His scream died quickly amid the chaos.
As for the last man—the one holding the woman—
his grip loosened immediately from the shock, and she fled without looking back, as if chasing life itself.
Only he remained.
Arthur smiled at him beneath his mask—a cold smile, devoid of any sympathy.
Before the man could utter a single word—
His head fell to the ground in a clean, precise strike that gave him no chance to even understand.
Arthur moved calmly, returned his sword to its place, and followed Kim Dokja and Lee Hyunsung—
as if what had just happened was nothing more than another step along a dark path he knew all too well.
