Chapter 191
The Mysterious Shadow
End of Volume Four
Near the gateway, Arthur felt as though his soul was about to shatter into a thousand pieces.
"I can't... I won't be able to do it."
He could no longer move any part of his body.
Within the Path of the Cosmos, Arthur was now nothing more than a human.
A human...
Which meant nothing.
An ant without strength or power.
"I still have..."
Before he could finish the thought,
blood exploded from every part of his body.
It poured out violently and without end,
as though his body itself were collapsing from within.
There was only one solution to escape this predicament—
Arthur had to place every bit of power he possessed into his body right now.
The power he had stored previously,
the magical energy from the previous world,
the power of the Four Wall Bearers,
and everything he had gathered throughout his life.
There were two ways to consume the power stored inside the Preservation Vial.
The first...
The known method:
Refining the power gradually,
allowing it to merge with body and soul,
increasing strength, magic, and stability.
The second—
The method Arthur hated from the depths of his heart.
Using the body as a pipe.
Pouring the energy into it,
temporarily sealing the "openings of the pipe,"
then...
after a short time,
the pipe would open somewhere else,
and the power would flow out...
and disappear.
It could not be used,
stored,
or recovered.
A wasteful method...
An absolute loss.
Arthur hated it,
because it meant losing everything he had collected.
But...
he was no longer in a position to choose between what he liked and disliked.
He was outside the boundaries of worlds.
An ant...
being observed by a supreme sacred existence.
That was how hopeless his situation had become.
And so—
Without hesitation.
He did it.
He consumed every bit of stored power.
Everything from the previous world,
everything from the Four Wall Bearers,
everything he possessed...
except for Cthulhu's power,
of which only fifty percent remained.
The energy surged through his body with terrifying force.
Even the Body of Eternal Immortality
could not withstand such an overwhelming flow of power all at once.
But Arthur could not think.
He stood on the edge of death.
Either he would be crushed and his soul destroyed...
or he would survive.
It was a desperate improvisation.
And he began using the power.
A brilliant light illuminated his body.
Majestic...
Beautiful in a terrifying way.
Because of that flood of energy—
Arthur broke through into the realm of:
Great Supreme Sacred Ruler.
He calmly raised his hand,
and the overwhelming aura gradually receded.
At that moment,
he saw the Path of the Cosmos with unprecedented clarity.
A sight...
That could neither be described
nor believed.
Previously,
when he had been weak,
he would be forced into sleep during transitions.
But now—
He was a Great Supreme Sacred Ruler.
That fact alone...
Was beyond imagination.
Only then did he realize how weak he had once been.
Now,
he could create and destroy millions of worlds with a mere thought,
without time,
without effort.
He felt the laws flowing around him,
like an endless, gentle ocean.
The power sought by every cultivator and practitioner...
Arthur had reached it now.
The summit of existence.
{{{It truly is an incredible feeling... to stand at the peak.}}}
His voice sounded calm,
yet even the Path of the Cosmos could not endure its tone,
and trembled with every word he spoke.
But—
This breakthrough...
Was temporary.
The power had never been refined into his body and soul.
It merely flowed through him...
like a pipe.
As the pressure eased slightly,
Arthur began walking toward the glowing path before him.
Step by step.
His soul weakened.
The energy leaked from his body.
Though everything that happened lasted only a few seconds—
What his soul experienced...
felt like millions of years.
Great Supreme Sacred Ruler...
Then
Supreme Sacred Ruler...
Then
Ruler.
With every step,
more energy left him.
And when only two steps remained before the light—
The pressure descended upon him once again.
It struck his body with overwhelming force
and crushed him to the ground.
"I... have to do it..."
Then—
Arthur fell into a deep sleep.
An ordinary human.
When every trace of power vanished from his body,
he quietly closed his eyes...
and fell asleep without resistance.
At that moment—
A sacred and dark radiance appeared.
From it emerged thousands of eyes...
and more.
Every eye stared at Arthur
with endless hatred.
The eyes tried,
and so did their owner,
to break into the Path of the Cosmos—
But—
Something small moved around Arthur's neck.
Astaroth appeared,
tiny in size,
blood pouring heavily from his body.
A crimson light wrapped around him.
It was Wrath,
in the form of a small child.
Wrath merged into Astaroth's body,
and power branched through him
like a beautiful flowing river.
Astaroth grabbed Arthur's clothes with his mouth
and began dragging him toward the light.
But—
His body suddenly stopped.
Dark, terrifying blood
began flowing from his eyes.
Gradually,
his body grew larger,
until it surpassed the size of the Poison Dragon
from Zhao Fan's world...
and continued growing beyond that.
He swung his tail
and struck Arthur's body toward the light with tremendous force.
Arthur's body flew forward.
And within a fraction of a second—
Astaroth lost all his strength
and collapsed unconscious within the Path of the Cosmos,
while Wrath remained wrapped around him,
supporting him with everything he had.
But no matter what they did—
They were nothing more than two ants
before that supreme power.
"Come..."
Arthur spoke in a low,
trembling voice
as he looked at them...
Yet despite everything,
Arthur's body was now only a single step away from the gate of the new world.
And at that exact moment—
Millions of eyes widened across the magnificent star-filled sky of the Path of the Cosmos.
Every eye stared at Arthur,
each carrying different emotions
and immeasurable power.
{Ahem. Could you move a little farther away, my friend?}
With those words,
the pressure from that terrifying entity ceased.
The Path of the Cosmos stopped trembling.
In the center of the Path stood a human-shaped shadow.
A black robe covered its body,
and a decorated wooden necklace hung around its neck.
{As you can see, your presence is not particularly welcome because right now... well, you're still half-asleep.}
{The time for the final battle has not yet come, and this boy is still too weak to provide you with an entertaining fight.}
The eyes of that entity began closing,
one after another,
calmly and knowingly.
Until only a single eye remained,
staring at the human-shaped figure standing within the Path of the Cosmos.
The shadow smiled faintly.
{Don't worry. I'm merely a traveler, a keeper of books, and the guardian of the Great Library.}
{I won't interfere... well, you know what I mean.}
{Now, you may leave.}
He calmly pointed toward Arthur's body,
which was enveloped in brilliant white light as it touched the gate of the new world.
---
| Arthur... wake up.
The transfer was successful. |
And with those words—
Arthur opened his eyes.
And rose to his feet with astonishing speed.
