"Still, I've never heard of the codename White Fox…" The tavern owner remained hesitant; after all, this concerned the security of Konoha's entire intelligence network.
Truly worthy of being an ANBU operative from Konoha — so cautious.
Aoi sneered and shrugged. "Because only ANBU agents holding the rank of Squad Captain or higher are cleared to know who I am."
The owner fell silent, caught off‑guard…
What Aoi really meant was: You're too low‑ranking to know my name — go ask your superior if you don't believe me.
"I will verify this with Captain Panda," the owner said, lowering his head.
"But until then, I cannot share any information related to Konoha."
Stubborn as ever.
Aoi frowned. If that's how it is, I'll just have to take a gamble…
"Damn it, there's no time!" Aoi slammed his fist down on the table in frustration.
"I've tracked the Akatsuki all the way here, but lost their trail somewhere nearby…"
"Hand over every piece of intelligence you've gathered on them right now!" He gritted his teeth.
"If you hold up a mission directly ordered by the Hokage, you will be held fully responsible!"
He had just dumped the entire weight of responsibility onto the owner's shoulders…
Aoi narrowed his eyes and clenched his fist, ready to strike and kill at a moment's notice. Tracking the Akatsuki is the safest cover story I could come up with.
The television in the tavern confirmed that this was the main timeline of Naruto Shippuden — otherwise such technology would not yet exist.
And the Akatsuki were central to almost the entire story arc!
If even this ruse failed, Aoi would have no choice but to accept the outcome…
Fortunately, after a long moment of hesitation, the owner finally let out a heavy sigh.
He undid his robes and pulled a sealed intelligence scroll from a hidden pouch strapped to his abdomen.
As Aoi unrolled it, the corners of his mouth lifted into a faint smile. So it's this part of the story… how interesting.
Written on the scroll were only four short characters: Sasuke slays his brother.
Yet those four words told Aoi exactly which point in the timeline he was in.
After all, even across the vast story of Naruto, this was one of the most iconic and pivotal moments.
"My foolish little brother…"
"This is the last time… farewell, Sasuke…"
Just thinking about it made Aoi's heart race with excitement. Unfortunately, the event had already passed — he would not get to witness it firsthand.
When it comes to watching from the shadows, no one beats Zetsu…
Recalling the sequence of events, Aoi remembered: right after the battle between the brothers, Sasuke's arrogance would get the better of him, leading him to challenge the Eight‑Tails jinchūriki alone.
He would be utterly crushed, nearly killed, and only scrape a narrow victory thanks to the "gift" his brother had left him…
To be honest, Aoi always found that part a bit contrived. Killer Bee was a warrior of immense strength, minding his own business in his village when Sasuke came looking for trouble.
Even more awkwardly, after holding a massive advantage and disabling Sasuke twice, he simply collapsed from a single brush of Amaterasu — a technique that had never actually killed anyone before that moment…
Clearly, the Akatsuki needed a way to collect all nine tailed beasts, so the plot was forced to bend in their favor!
Yet in a way, the Akatsuki's movements were like the reincarnated bloodlines of Indra and Asura — they followed the will of the world itself.
If he tried to stop them head‑on, an unstoppable force would surely rise up to block him.
The only way was to go with the flow, or find a way to intervene from a different angle…
Aoi smiled as he burned the map he had obtained, then turned and walked off in the exact opposite direction of the Hidden Cloud Village.
There's still some time before the next major event unfolds. Let me test this idea first…
Follow the course of fate, and become a true master of the ninja world!
