Chapter 69 - Key points

After Wang Wei completely exploded, Lin Lian and Wang Qiang finally realized how serious the matter was.

Wang Qiang swallowed hard in fear. "Dad, what are you saying? How could it be this bad? Is our family going bankrupt?"

He truly hadn't expected things to get this serious.

Lin Lian's legs gave way and she collapsed to the floor. "Five hundred million down to one—how could this happen? Qiang, what on earth is going on? Tell me!"

Only then did Wang Qiang, terrified, spill every detail.

"Dad, after I got back last night I drank so much I passed out; I didn't even have time to get back at him. How could he move against our family so fast?"

"Your old man spent the whole morning greasing every contact and still couldn't find who's targeting us—turns out it's someone from Chengdu. Who else could it be but him?"

"Then what should I do? I barely know the guy."

"You idiot, finally grasp how bad this is? Get lost this instant and fix it—beg him if you have to. If you don't, I'll divorce your mom and you'll go live with her."

With that, Wang Wei didn't even glance at Wang Qiang or Lin Lian on the floor; he spun around and stalked off in fury.

The empire he'd painstakingly built over decades was about to be ruined, and at this moment he felt no fatherly love—he even wanted to strangle Wang Qiang with his own hands.

"Mom, what do I do? It can't really be him, right? Impossible..." Wang Qiang still refused to accept reality.

Last night he'd sworn he'd never let Jiang Cheng off the hook; today he was supposed to go lick his boots?

"Qiang, why don't you find out what he wants and beg for his forgiveness? If your dad really divorces me, you're finished. That little money won't last us, and you haven't even married yet." Lin Lian began pleading gently.

Even now Lin Lian couldn't bring herself to scold Wang Qiang, though she knew full well it was all his fault.

"No, I can't do it—too humiliating. Divorce it is; I'm not going."

With that, Wang Qiang flung Lin Lian's hand away, stormed out of the house, and roared off in his Lamborghini.

He raced away from home at breakneck speed.

Meanwhile, at Jiang Cheng's security firm, the computer prodigy codenamed 'The Matrix' was still whipping up momentum online.

Because Jiang Cheng's assignments differed, the team's tactics differed accordingly.

For instance, Jiang Cheng's order regarding Zhang Yu was simple: take him out.

Carrying that out domestically was tricky, and with Zhang Yu staying home after his beating two days earlier, the plan remained in a holding pattern.

But Wang Qiang's task was far easier to handle.

Once Jiang Cheng issued the order, the team quickly drafted a plan.

That very night two operatives moved, and by dawn they'd thrown the company's operations into chaos.

Uncovering a raw-material scandal delivered a knockout punch.

The results were spectacular and the cost next to nothing.

As for Jiang Cheng, thanks to all the alcohol, he slept straight through till morning.

When he woke he frowned at the silk pajamas he was wearing.

He remembered Zhou Ying had seen him home and then left by cab.

He himself had crashed out drunk the moment he hit the bed.

He had no memory of changing clothes.

Just then Wang Yuyan walked in; the instant she saw Jiang Cheng her expression turned uneasy.

Still, she bowed respectfully. "Good morning, Mr. Jiang. Breakfast is ready—lean-pork and vegetable congee. If you'd prefer something else, I'll arrange it."

Jiang Cheng glanced again at her slightly lowered collar and smiled. "Manager Wang, perfect choice. After drinking, something light hits the spot. By the way—did you change my pajamas?"

At the question Wang Yuyan's face burned even hotter.

Last night, seeing Jiang Cheng bring another stunning woman home, she'd decided she needed to seize the moment and be more proactive.

Unfortunately, Jiang Cheng had collapsed the instant he walked through the door.

He hadn't stirred even while she wiped him down and changed his clothes.

Left with no choice, she carefully cleaned every inch of him.

Noticing he didn't react, and with no one around, she'd even practiced a few 'knowledge points' she'd picked up from movies.

After several attempts she'd finally given up, defeated.

Recalling it now, her mouth still felt uncomfortably odd.

Yet the night's practice had been enlightening.

She felt even more satisfied with Jiang Cheng and believed she'd laid solid groundwork for the real thing next time.

"Yes, Mr. Jiang. Don't worry—I only changed your clothes; nothing else." Wang Yuyan waved her hands hurriedly
