Chapter 261 - A Change in Attitude

...Jiang Cheng quickly left the ninth-floor dining area and walked into the private room where his roommates were.

When the guys saw Jiang Cheng, they all stood up of their own accord.

Wang Jian was especially enthusiastic. "Come on, Brother Cheng, the dishes just arrived—we've been waiting for you."

Lu Chuan added, "Yeah, none of us felt like eating until you got here."

"Brother Cheng, Brother Cheng, sit over here." Wu Kun waved him over hurriedly.

Jiang Cheng could feel their attitude do a one-eighty.

Most obvious was the switch from calling him Jiang Cheng to calling him Brother Cheng.

Looked like his raw display of muscle had impressed them.

Jiang Cheng didn't put on airs. Smiling, he said, "Sorry to keep you guys waiting."

"We didn't wait long—the food just got here."

"Exactly, it's still hot."

"..."

Jiang Cheng sat between Wu Kun and Lu Chuan and asked, "What were you two so fired up about?"

"Old Four wouldn't stop telling me about your supercar—how complicated the dash is, how sick the exhaust sounds. He was giving me a full lecture."

Wu Kun, speaking awful Mandarin, gushed, "Riding in your car really is crazy cool. When everyone on the street turns to look, your vanity just explodes. Only after I sat in it did I get why so many Girls love crying in fancy cars—that rush of vanity feels amazing."

Then, embarrassed, he added, "I'm freaking blown away, but it's not as comfy as a normal ride—worse than my dad's beat-up bmw. With all that cash, why not buy a few cushy lux cars instead of something that bruises your butt?"

Jiang Cheng gave a soft laugh, glanced at the three Girls opposite, and said, "That question proves you're still a rookie."

He lowered his voice: "Driving a supercar isn't comfy, but once you park it, plenty of people will make sure you're very comfortable."

Lu Chuan and Wu Kun's grins froze.

"Damn!"

"Damn!"

Blame their limited vocab—one expletive says it all.

"I've got a new goal: when I strike it rich, I'm buying a supercar and getting comfy," Wu Kun blurted, bouncing up like a goof.

When Wu Kun brought it up, Yao Xue's roommate Wang Qiao asked, "Jiang Cheng, what does your family do?"

"Just a bit of small business."

They exchanged glances. "What kind of small business buys a watch that pricey?"

Jiang Cheng shrugged. "Really is small business; the watch came from my own investments."

Far from looking down on him, they stared in awe.

Because everyone knows the difference between a self-made rich kid and a Second-generation rich.

Who doesn't like someone capable and loaded?

Second-generation rich have to beg the family; first-generation rich don't.

Sure, you build it yourself, but every dime is yours.

Compare the two and the winner's obvious.

"Wow, Jiang Cheng, you're amazing!"

"Ah, Jiang Cheng, you're so strong!"

"Jiang Cheng, you're awesome!"

The Girls' squeals left Jiang Cheng a bit overwhelmed.

He checked his roommates' faces.

They looked impressed, not jealous.

The meal stayed upbeat throughout.

Eighteen-year-olds with no interests at stake get along easily.

After eating they strolled the Bund, then hurried back to campus—stay out too late and the dorms lock you out.

They drove back to school.

Jiang Cheng drove alone; the supercar has just one seat.

Yao Xue couldn't ride with her boyfriend around, and the other Girls, though eager, felt shy with so many people—next time they'd catch him alone.

Wu Kun had overeaten and feared the supercar would cramp his stuffed stomach.

So Jiang Cheng cruised back to campus solo.

The Mercedes led, the supercar followed, then a little bmw brought up the rear.

Unsurprisingly, their convoy drew stares at the gate.

While Jiang Cheng waited for Wang Jian to enter, Lin Qingxue—just back from outside—spotted him.

Surprised, she walked up to the porsche's window.

"Jiang Cheng?"

Elbow on the sill, Jiang Cheng turned at the voice and sized her up.

She wore a cropped white tee that showed her midriff, a gray pleated skirt, and headphones—pure youthful glow.

"Senior?"

Lin Qingxue stared at the car. Yesterday she'd thought he was merely a Second-generation rich kid; she hadn't expected a porsche. She didn't know its price, but clearly out of ordinary reach.

"Jiang Cheng, is this yours? So cool!"

Seeing her walking alone, Jiang Cheng asked, "Senior, just got back? Want a ride?"

Their campus was huge—hundreds of meters from gate to teaching buildings, past cafeterias, then hundreds more to the dorms: a twenty-minute hike at least.

Startled, her eyes lit up. "Really? Thanks! My feet are killing me."

Jiang Cheng pressed the unlock button.

"Hop in."

Beaming, she trotted around the hood to the passenger door.

Lu Chuan and Wu Kun behind gaped, sucking in sharp breaths.

They had no clue Jiang Cheng even knew Lin Qingxue.

All they saw was a stunning Girl chat briefly, then climb into his car.

"What the heck?" Wu Kun's jaw dropped.

"So this is the supercar effect he mentioned? That figure is top-tier..." Lu Chuan sounded jealous.

His roomy bmw meant nothing—when a porsche shows up, you yield.

If you want Girls to pamper you, better take the long way around.
