Jiang Cheng strolled toward the drill field while casually chatting nonsense in the group chat.
At that moment Ren Jun had them marching in the sun.
When Ren Jun saw Jiang Cheng appear again he immediately walked over.
"Young Master Jiang, why are you out here?"
Jiang Cheng smiled. "Instructor Ren, this is a school; just call me by my name—it sounds more normal."
Ren Jun froze, then pulled a simple smile, nervously adjusted his cap with both hands and nodded. "Got it, Student Jiang Cheng."
"Instructor Ren, it's so hot. A friend of mine sent some drinks to help the students cool down; have one later."
Ren Jun nodded without objection. "Alright, I'll have them take a break where they are."
University Military Training wasn't that strict; Jiang Cheng's small request was no big deal.
Ren Jun quickly blew his whistle and told everyone to rest on the spot.
The crowd noisily headed for the shade.
Seeing Jiang Cheng return right during the break, Wang Jian grew suspicious.
He slapped Jiang Cheng's shoulder. "Old Jiang, damn I envy you. Can you put in a word with the Instructor? I wanna run errands and watch the water too."
Lu Chuan took off his cap and fanned himself. "Yeah, hell, this weather is roasting."
Wu Kun used his phone as a mirror to fix his hair.
"My morning hairstyle's ruined again. I don't dare take the cap off—it's all sweat, must look awful."
Huang Yiyi skipped over with a bottle of Mineral Water. "Jiang Cheng, what does that Instructor keep calling you for? Not some hard labor, right?"
Jiang Cheng shook his head. "Nothing much, just small stuff."
"Ugh, why make you run errands during training? What if you never learn the Military Boxing? Is he jealous because you're handsome?"
Seeing Huang Yiyi puff her cheeks in anger, Wang Jian, Lu Chuan and Wu Kun stared in disbelief.
??????
Did Jiang Cheng's relaxed look suggest he'd been doing hard labor?
And that's how the phrase "big chest, no brain" was born.
Jiang Cheng didn't explain; after all, he'd got in through the back door—best kept quiet, not flaunted.
Just as Huang Yiyi twisted the cap off the water bottle for him,
Shen Mengjia hurried over from the neighboring formation.
Wang Jian immediately stepped toward Chen Jia.
"Mengjia, bringing me water again? So thoughtful."
Shen Mengjia gave him a faint smile, sidestepped and walked up to Jiang Cheng.
Her eyes shot an almost imperceptible glare at Huang Yiyi beside Jiang Cheng.
Smiling sweetly she said, "Jiang Cheng, lots of people just gave me different Sodas and I can't finish them all—such a waste. It's so hot; I'm not sure which kind you like, so I brought a few. Help me and your roommates finish them."
Before Jiang Cheng could refuse, Shen Mengjia made a show of being in a rush, waved at him and shyly said, "I'll head back first, or people will tease me."
You had to admit Shen Mengjia was pretty clever.
Her words hinted at her popularity,
and left Jiang Cheng no chance to distance himself.
Her parting remark and bashful expression could easily make outsiders imagine something was going on.
She'd single-handedly created the illusion of a special relationship between her and Jiang Cheng.
Her self-scripted, self-acted act was flawless.
A pure little green-tea, master of tea arts.
All in all, not a bad performance!!
Huang Yiyi watched, green-eyed with jealousy.
She pouted. "Jiang Cheng, is she your girlfriend?"
Jiang Cheng chuckled. "I only learned her name yesterday—what do you think?"
Huang Yiyi groaned. "You met yesterday? Isn't that moving a bit fast?"
Jiang Cheng flicked her smooth forehead. "I've only heard her name—what's in that head of yours?"
Huang Yiyi finally caught on. "Oh, I get it! Then I'm still ahead—I met you way before her."
Seeing her mood recover instantly, Jiang Cheng shook his head helplessly.
This girl was really easy to pacify.
Just then a small white van pulled up beside the drill field.
Jiang Cheng's phone rang at the same time.
Seeing Lin Qingxue's name, he answered in surprise.
After she explained why she'd called, he told her where they were; once the call ended he waved toward the van.
Five people beside the vehicle hoisted several white foam coolers and walked toward them.
Among the freshmen Jiang Cheng was a standout presence.
Everything he did drew attention.
When he walked toward the newcomers,
everyone's gaze shifted to them.
A stunning figure suddenly came into view.
"Isn't that Senior Lin Qingxue? What's she doing on the drill field?"
"Qingxue? The Student Union beauty from Finance, the Department Flower?"
"Yes, yes, that's her—so gorgeous! Absolutely stunning!"
…
Lin Qingxue carried several cups of milk tea and walked toward Jiang Cheng.
Today she wore a white puff-sleeve blouse, a short black skirt, white lace ankle socks and silver lace butterfly flats.
Her milk tea-colored hair sparkled in the sun, her skin almost glowing.
At the sight of her, every guy on site instinctively swallowed.
Amid the sweaty, stinky Military Training, Lin Qingxue brought a breath of sweetness.
Yes, she looked soft and fragrant.
Lin Qingxue, the sophomore belle of the Finance Department.
Top student and head of the Student Union's Logistics Department.
Many freshmen had been smitten by her stunning looks and friendly manner on the very first day.
When she noticed Jiang Cheng's eyes fixed on her, a sweet smile bloomed across her face.
"Jiang Cheng, here's the milk tea you ordered!" Grinning, she handed him the four cups.
He'd been surprised since the moment her call came; he hadn't expected her to deliver it personally.
Seeing his surprise, Lin Qingxue explained, "I work part-time at the milk tea shop outside campus. A customer left your name and number; when I heard it was you, and since I go to this school, the manager asked me to bring it over."
Huang Yiyi spotted yet another gorgeous girl beside Jiang Cheng and immediately pouted again.
