Chapter 306 - Was I dreaming again?

Last night Lin Qingxue clung to him till dawn, and tonight a tipsy Huang Yiyi pinned his arm all evening.

Jiang Cheng felt he'd never get to sleep tonight.

Rather than head back to the dorm and stare at the labels on the beds, he might as well look for Yu Xiaoxiao, Qiao Yinyin, Wang Yuyan—or maybe Xia Meng?

After mulling it over, he chose Qiao Yinyin for fairness' sake.

After all, he'd only just seen the others recently.

With that, he messaged Qiao Yinyin while strolling toward the university's underground garage.

The moment Qiao Yinyin got Jiang Cheng's text, she shot upright in bed.

She'd planned to stay up late—she had an early class tomorrow.

Jiang Cheng's sudden invitation made her break into a delighted smile.

Without a second thought, she happily packed her things.

Heavy coursework kept her from returning to her off-campus flat these days.

Add in Military Training at the start of term in Jiang Cheng, and the two hadn't met for ages.

Truth be told, she missed Jiang Cheng.

Soon the car pulled up at the gate of Ligong University.

Seeing the imposing entrance, Jiang Cheng couldn't help smiling.

Qiao Yinyin's university ranked among the nation's top tier.

Still, engineering programs had their pros and cons.

What mattered most was picking the right major.

Four years later, graduates from different departments face wildly divergent job markets and social prospects.

The hottest ticket was computer science.

That major was the most sought-after.

From factory offices to AI and coding, the career options were vast—and the pay was excellent.

Electronic information or electrical engineering were solid choices too.

They were poised to ride the coming wave, making job hunting a breeze.

The wave for electronic-info majors was domestic chipmaking.

With the global climate shifting, China was pouring resources into home-grown chips.

If you happened to study electronic information, jobs were practically guaranteed.

Electrical-engineering grads would also find employment easy.

After all, new-energy vehicles—another future boom—needed them.

Yet Qiao Yinyin had picked materials forming, the narrowest niche imaginable.

The name sounded fancy, but matching jobs meant factory-floor work—and pitiful wages.

Three-thousand-plus a month, anyone?

Want to pivot? Then grind through a three-year master's or a five-year PhD to teach at university—lucrative but time-consuming. As TikTok's Professor Zhang Xuefeng says, life isn't about entering a top school; it's about choosing the right major.

Some fields have huge market demand; others leave you applauding your own passion.

No matter how many years you toil or how stellar your grades,

If the market's cold, you'll still be unemployed.

Switch tracks and you'll lose to specialists in those fields—some majors are one-way streets.

Qiao Yinyin soon jogged to the campus gate.

From afar she spotted Jiang Cheng's porsche 918 parked by the curb.

But beside the sports car stood the one person she least wanted to see.

The girl waiting there spotted Qiao Yinyin approaching.

She dropped her searching look, rolled her eyes, and sneered, "Oh, isn't this our department's flower?"

The speaker was Wang Lin, a classmate from the same major.

Ever since Wang Lin lost the forum vote for department belle, she'd greeted Qiao Yinyin with barbs.

Unruffled, Qiao Yinyin beamed back: "I thought you loved rolling your eyes. I assumed bad vision, yet you can still see at night?"

The jab made Wang Lin's face drop.

Taking a deep breath, she fired another salvo: "New bag again? Your top supporter must be generous."

Wang Lin was also a small-time Female Streamer, just less popular than Qiao Yinyin.

"Exactly. Want one too? Can't afford it? Then work harder."

Seeing Qiao Yinyin unmoved, Wang Lin exploded.

"Can't afford it? See this? My boyfriend's car—he's picking me up. I can buy as many bags as I want." She patted the porsche for emphasis.

Hearing her claim the porsche 918 as her boyfriend's, Qiao Yinyin stepped back and double-checked the plate.

Sure it was Jiang Cheng's, her expression turned odd.

Though unsure why Jiang Cheng wasn't inside, she couldn't resist teasing Wang Lin: "Are you sure this car belongs to your boyfriend?"

Seeing Qiao Yinyin's shock, Wang Lin felt smug.

She lifted her chin proudly: "Well? Isn't this porsche gorgeous?"

Qiao Yinyin was now fighting back laughter.

Spotting Jiang Cheng exit a nearby mini-mart, she waved and told Wang Lin, "Chat later—my boyfriend's here."

Wang Lin rolled her eyes in disdain, but when she saw the approaching man she froze.

He was insanely handsome!

She had to admit—she was jealous again.

Jiang Cheng walked over in silence, glanced at Wang Lin, then handed Qiao Yinyin the drink he'd just bought.

Qiao Yinyin took the bottle he'd sipped from, unscrewed it, and drank.

Then she told Wang Lin, "It's late; keep strolling. We're off—bye."

Wang Lin watched them prepare to leave.

She blurted, "You're Qiao Yinyin's boyfriend? Did you know she has a top supporter who showers her with gifts—maybe even keeps her?"

She added pointedly, "Handsome, notice how she keeps changing bags since he started tipping? Be careful."

Jiang Cheng chuckled: "Didn't know your school had such gossip."

Qiao Yinyin looped her arm through his and cooed, "Exactly, darling. People love to talk. I ran over, saw your car, and freaked. She claimed it was her boyfriend's—I had to check the plate twice, thinking I was dreaming again tonight."
