Just as Wang Zheng was about to press for more, Wang Congcong finally walked back in, with Lin Yang right behind him.
The others greeted one another as Wang Congcong entered.
Congcong turned to Jiang Cheng and said, "Jiang Cheng, your car's been found. As a precaution I've had it taken to the porsche center for inspection. The suspect's also in custody; let him fill you in on the details."
Lin Yang stepped forward. "Good afternoon, Mr. Jiang. The investigation is complete and the vehicle has been recovered. We've basically identified the suspect, but an unexpected development has occurred, so there are a few routine questions we need to ask."
Jiang Cheng replied calmly, "Go ahead."
Though Jiang Cheng himself didn't yet know exactly how things had played out,
the Security Team had just sent him the mission report.
The assignment to eliminate Hao Liang had been completed.
Lin Yang held Jiang Cheng's gaze. "Our investigation shows the first suspect who tampered with your car was a street punk nicknamed Gou-ge. Illegitimate, orphaned, a middle-school dropout with a long record for petty theft. He claims a young man named Hao Liang paid him a hundred thousand yuan to damage your vehicle. After he sabotaged the brakes he simply waited for you to drive off."
"But, strangely, a second, unknown car thief made off with the porsche. That second thief is still at large. According to Gou-ge, Hao Liang later demanded a refund, saying the job had been botched."
"When we tried to arrest Hao Liang, his own brakes failed and he slammed into a roadside pillar. The suspect is dead."
Lin Yang kept watching Jiang Cheng the whole time, hoping to catch the tiniest flicker of a tell.
Unfortunately, Jiang Cheng's expression never changed.
After hearing Lin Yang's account, Jiang Cheng gave a composed nod.
Inwardly, he was very satisfied with the Security Team's plan.
"As long as my car is back, I'm content. I'll leave the rest to Officer Lin."
"Mr. Jiang, although the suspect has been caught, several puzzling points remain."
"First: the second car thief is still missing, and the main suspect is dead. Yet according to Gou-ge, he and Hao Liang had no prior relationship."
"Second, that second thief deliberately parked the car at the used-car lot Hao Liang bought from days earlier. This move directly helped us confirm Hao Liang as the prime suspect—almost as if someone wanted to help the Police crack the case."
"Third, why did Hao Liang's brakes suddenly fail? While he was in hospital getting bandaged, the ward's surveillance system conveniently malfunctioned—was that sabotage?"
"Fourth, suspect Hao Liang was your classmate and one of the parties in that campus dispute the day before yesterday."
Lin Yang dissected every perplexing angle of the case in full detail.
His words left everyone present stunned.
And his implication was clear: he suspected Jiang Cheng's involvement in the whole affair.
By his analysis, the affair was indeed bizarre.
The original intent had been to kill Jiang Cheng via brake failure—yet in the end it was Hao Liang who died from brake failure.
Lin Yang's reasoning was not without merit.
Jiang Cheng smiled faintly. "I'll say it again: that's for you to investigate. How would I know? I can only call it karma."
At Jiang Cheng's audacity, Lin Yang's brows knitted tightly.
This wasn't his first clash with Jiang Cheng;
he knew the man was no push-over.
Yet the two incidents, threaded together, were riddled with loopholes.
In Lin Yang's eyes Jiang Cheng was now the prime suspect—
only they had zero evidence.
They didn't even know what had happened to Hao Liang's car while it sat in the hospital lot.
"Mr. Jiang, Hao Liang posted that slander about you on campus the day before yesterday, and today he's dead in a crash—don't you find that too coincidental?"
Wang Congcong frowned. "Officer Lin, what are you implying? The incident happened on our Wanda property, and the suspect struck first. If you've no evidence and keep speculating, our Wanda Legal Team will be in touch."
Congcong was threatening to sue Lin Yang for defamation.
Before Lin Yang could respond, Qin Fen added, "Exactly. Think we're pushovers? Interrogate the suspect if you must, or you'll be dealing with the best lawyers in town."
Lin Yang had expected Jiang Cheng to be difficult, but not this many hardliners in one room.
The crux now was the car thief who had driven the porsche away.
Eerily, after parking the vehicle the thief vanished from every camera; several road-section feeds were even hacked—nothing could be traced.
Lin Yang couldn't fathom who had the capability to pull off something so sophisticated.
Deep down he strongly suspected Jiang Cheng—he just lacked proof.
Like the campus-forum case, the whole affair felt surreal,
yet no trace of Jiang Cheng's involvement could be found.
It was as if the man operated in broad daylight yet remained untouchable.
Everyone present sensed the abnormality, but they were worldly enough to stand by Jiang Cheng while no evidence surfaced.
After all, without proof, any accusation is slander.
Realizing he would get nothing more from Jiang Cheng, Lin Yang reluctantly withdrew.
The disappearance of the porsche 918 was provisionally solved; the focus now shifted to the investigation of Hao Liang's death.
Lin Yang sighed—this case looked destined to become another unsolved file.
For now, every key piece of evidence was missing…
