Chapter 612 - The language of the steel-wool ball: wealth and forbearance.

When the young man heard that, he hurriedly explained, "Sister Chen, the workload's been heavy these past two days, so I'm a bit tired. I'll do better next time."

The middle-aged woman sneered, "Tired? Should I give you a few days off?"

"No, no—traveling on business with you is the best vacation. I'll be fine after a short rest."

"At least you know how to talk. But tonight—you know the drill—perform well, or I won't bring you along next time."

"Yes, yes, I understand."

While nodding obsequiously, the young man couldn't help glancing at Chen Xueer again.

He silently cheered himself on.

The language of the steel-wool ball: wealth and forbearance.

Everything I'm doing now is so that one day I can sleep with a top-tier woman like her.

I have to endure it...

When Jiang Cheng started cracking dirty jokes, Chen Xueer rolled her eyes.

Jiang Cheng coughed and dropped the banter; after all, his goal tonight was to crash in her room.

He was afraid that if he kept joking, he wouldn't even get through the door.

"I just need to rest at your place. Tonight I'm dining with the boss of Tianlong Real Estate and I'll take you along to talk business. My home's on the other side of town—saves me the back-and-forth."

"But didn't you book me a single room?"

When the elevator arrived, Jiang Cheng wheeled Chen Xueer's suitcase inside. "The Ritz-Carlton sofa is very comfortable; its bounce and support rival any mattress."

Chen Xueer gave him a meaningful look. "Chairman Jiang certainly knows his hotels."

"Of course—when you're paying thousands a night, you want every amenity."

Realizing she couldn't out-snark him, Chen Xueer dropped the subject.

Inside the room, Jiang Cheng made no other move; he simply flopped onto the sofa. "All right, relax—you take the big bed, I'll take the sofa. We won't... interfere with each other."

Hearing him stress the fourth tone again, Chen Xueer shot him a speechless glance.

It wasn't that she distrusted him; being alone with Jiang Cheng just reminded her of the incident in the company shower.

Still, she knew that with his current status he would never force himself on her.

Reassured, she wheeled her suitcase into the bedroom, grabbed her pajamas, and headed for the bathroom.

Glancing at the running water, Jiang Cheng opened wechat and pinged Little Crispy.

Little Crispy replied instantly.

She added, "Great Poseidon, no need for more gifts—I'm going live right now."

Jiang Cheng answered, "Not streaming today."

Little Crispy: "I'm live—free gaming company."

Jiang Cheng entered the stream; Little Crispy was wearing plain pajamas.

Viewer count was normal, but she seemed less lively than usual.

Although she'd told him not to, Jiang Cheng immediately fired off ten Super Rockets.

Seeing him appear again, Little Crispy jumped up and saluted. "Thank you, sugar daddy of the internet, for the rapid fire!! Salute—now online."

"Little Crispy finally looks alive; she was half-dead a minute ago."

"Turns out goddesses don't love money, but every second of their happiness costs money."

"So she and Great Poseidon are still just netizens??"

"I don't buy it—they haven't met in person?"

...When Chen Xueer finished her shower, she tiptoed out of the bathroom.

The bedroom was empty; game sounds drifted from the living room.

She crept out quietly.

Jiang Cheng was still on the sofa, playing Honor of Kings.

A female voice occasionally came from his phone.

"Boss, I've pinned him to the wall—come on, finish her, finish her hard."

Hearing Little Crispy say that with a straight face, Jiang Cheng chuckled.

Watching him game so seriously, Chen Xueer frowned.

Jiang Cheng caught sight of her in her bathrobe and asked, "What's wrong?"

"I'm going to bed."

"Go ahead. Should I turn the volume down?"

After lowering the sound, he focused completely on the match.

His earnest concentration left Chen Xueer slightly dazed.

She realized Jiang Cheng probably had no special interest in her.

Their previous contacts had merely been accidental brushes with boundaries he'd set.

At this distance, he couldn't even be bothered to glance at her.

So her charm wasn't as irresistible as she'd thought.
