Chapter 779 - Want to come up and rest for a bit?

Seeing Jiang Cheng lost in thought, Su Wan's lips curved slightly. "Does a question like that really take so long to answer?"

Cornered by Su Wan's persistence, Jiang Cheng couldn't help the playful smile tugging at his lips. "Judging size by sight isn't reliable—too many 'black-tech' tricks these days, and you girls have too many schemes. Who knows whether it's padding or a forced squeeze? You have to compare hands-on to be sure."

After Jiang Cheng finished, Su Wan said nothing, but as she climbed into the car she murmured, "Got it—let's go."

Her ambiguous answer sparked a flicker of anticipation in Jiang Cheng's heart.

Neither of them mentioned it again for the rest of the drive.

Jiang Cheng yawned and asked the focused driver, "Wang Sheng, ever heard of Feng Gan?"

Eyes still on the road, Wang Sheng glanced at him through the rear-view mirror. "The film director?"

"Mm. Over a decade ago he made a movie called Telephone that caused quite a stir. The original story was based on a TV host, but Feng Gan twisted it so outrageously the host ended up looking like the cheater. Because of that the guy's been fighting the portrayal ever since. Media wasn't so developed back then; only a few papers covered his complaints, and he couldn't touch Feng Gan at all."

Wang Sheng understood at once.

Jiang Cheng never wasted words.

"I was out of the country then," Wang Sheng said. "Don't know the details."

Jiang Cheng nodded. "Feng Gan's new film just wrapped. Next he'll start Telephone 2—unannounced, but already in pre-production. Leak the news to that host, then dig up every contract signed personally by Huayi's stars and by Feng Gan himself and hand them over."

Hearing Jiang Cheng lay out the scheme in front of her, Su Wan felt shock—and a surge of admiration.

She loved this side of him: planning victories from a thousand miles away.

Still, she was worried.

Feng Gan feared nothing and no one; he'd mocked Richest Man Wang to the entire internet.

And tonight Jiang Cheng had slapped him in front of everyone. A man that vindictive wouldn't let it go.

After mentioning it to Wang Sheng, Jiang Cheng closed his eyes and pretended to sleep.

With Li Songbo brokering deals at tonight's investor dinner, plenty of people had toasted Jiang Cheng; he'd drunk more than enough.

By the time the car entered the underground garage of Su Wan's building, Jiang Cheng was still asleep.

Su Wan didn't get out. Wang Sheng opened her door himself and motioned for her not to disturb Jiang Cheng.

She hesitated, then gently nudged Jiang Cheng instead.

Startled awake, he blinked blearily. "What's wrong?"

"You look exhausted… want to come upstairs and rest for a bit?"

Looking at her flushed, sunset-red face, Jiang Cheng felt his heart stir.

All trace of drowsiness vanished in an instant.

He knew exactly what the invitation meant.

He remembered the first time he'd dropped her off: she'd tentatively asked him up for a drink. Back then her fondness gauge was only around eighty, so he'd politely declined.

Times had changed.

He smoothed his expression, nodded calmly. "Sounds good."

The anticipation on Jiang Cheng's face was obvious.

Wang Sheng, who'd hoped to spirit Su Wan away unnoticed, couldn't keep his own expression from shifting.

He silently reprimanded himself.

He'd misread the situation. Seeing Jiang Cheng resting with eyes closed, he'd assumed his boss had no interest and had dutifully motioned Su Wan to leave.

Yet Jiang Cheng stepped out of the car with decisive speed.

More importantly, years of trained perception told Wang Sheng that Su Wan's eyes had held conflict and hesitation.

A moment more of reserve and she might have obeyed Wang Sheng and walked away—ruining Jiang Cheng's plan.

The thought filled Wang Sheng with regret.

He quickly lifted his phone and issued new orders to the Security Team.

Meanwhile Jiang Cheng followed Su Wan upstairs.

At her door, her fingers trembled slightly as she keyed in the code; she was clearly nervous.

The lock clicked open.

Su Wan pushed the door and said, "The Company set me up here—three bedrooms, close to the office, very convenient."

She stepped inside, then turned. "Give me a minute; I'm going to shower. Drinks and water are in the fridge—make yourself comfortable."
