Chapter 1051 - Taking the Initiative

Seeing the thick bandage wrapped around Wang Jian's head, Jiang Cheng couldn't help frowning.

He cracked, "When you texted me yesterday you said a few Band-Aids would do. Now you're rocking a wrap longer than an overnight Sofy."

The joke instantly closed the distance between them; the tense atmosphere melted away.

Everyone burst out laughing. Wang Jian scratched his head, a little embarrassed.

"Haha, Brother Cheng, it only looks dramatic—just some swelling and a few surface cuts."

Wu Kun flashed a wicked grin. "Brother Cheng, you weren't there! The moment this guy saw the pretty nurse his eyes glazed over. He kept hamming it up—headache, footache—pure drama queen. The more he flirted, the more bandages she gave him, till he ended up like this."

Lu Chuan chimed in, "Exactly. All he needed was a quick stitch and a big bandage, but when she changed the dressing yesterday he started hitting on her again. Annoyed, she mummified him."

Wang Jian protested, "Annoyed? You two wouldn't understand—she felt sorry for me!"

Wu Kun and Lu Chuan exchanged glances and declared in unison, "Haha, Brother Wang, you're the model simp we all aspire to be!"

Wang Jian shot them a glare. "Get lost—don't lump me in with you guys."

Then he turned to Jiang Cheng. "Brother Cheng, I have to thank you in person. I heard Chen Tie's family crashed and Shen Lang called to apologize last night."

"Oh? Looks like it's settled, then."

Wang Jian's eyes shone with gratitude. "If it weren't for you, my family might've been ruined. You've got to let me treat you to dinner."

"Good thing you didn't say the cafeteria, or I'd roast you alive."

"No way. How about we go now? No classes this afternoon—"

Before he finished, Wu Kun pointed across the room. "Ye Wan!"

Following his gesture, Jiang Cheng saw Ye Wan standing in the food line with a tray.

When she spotted Jiang Cheng heading over, Ye Wan called, "Jiang Cheng."

The fact that Little Mute took the initiative startled him.

The other three didn't share his surprise; to them, most girls greeted Jiang Cheng first.

Wu Kun grumbled, "Ye Wan, you've got to come to tonight's class meeting. You've barely shown up. Let's swap wechat so I don't have to chase you in the group chat."

Ye Wan lowered her head. "Monitor… could I skip tonight too?"

Wu Kun frowned. "This keeps happening. You always find an excuse. As a classmate you should join activities."

She bit her lip. "I really want to, but I have a part-time job."

"Work is fine—"

Jiang Cheng cut in. "She's not going. She works at my milk tea shop; no time."

To him these so-called class meetings were pointless unless you needed networking or practice organizing.

The other three stared, stunned that Ye Wan and Jiang Cheng were connected.

Wu Kun said at once, "Why didn't you say so? Just tell me whenever you want to skip."

Grateful, Ye Wan glanced at Jiang Cheng. "Th-thank you."

As Jiang Cheng followed her toward the food, Wu Kun eyed them suspiciously. "Since when are Brother Cheng and Ye Wan a thing?"

Lu Chuan whispered, "No way. Isn't he with Lin Qingxue and Huang Yiyi? Ye Wan's nothing special…"

Wang Jiang snorted, "Why do you care? You've chased every girl in class, Wu Kun, and couldn't even land the plainer ones—spare us."
