Chapter 1984 - Not Going Through Official Channels

"Young Master Jiang?" Zhou Guanshan noticed his unusual behavior.

Jiang Cheng set down his teacup, his fingers tapping on the tabletop in a slow rhythm.

"Uncle Zhou," he said, "Kun Tui said I get to decide the location? Tell him the location will be the place he chose, but I will decide the time."

Zhou Guanshan glanced at him. "If you really intend to go over there, you must be extremely careful regarding personnel."

Although he didn't say it explicitly, Jiang Cheng could tell that Zhou Guanshan was referring to the people around him.

Jiang Cheng glanced at him.

[Name: Zhou Guanshan]

[Age: 58]

[Height: 170 cm]

[Weight: 68 kg]

[affinity value: 95]

With this affinity value, the chance of him betraying Jiang Cheng was very small.

Although Chen Ping hadn't gone into detail when introducing him, Jiang Cheng knew his own grandfather's way of doing things.

He usually prepared backup plans for the people around him.

Furthermore, his Danger Perception Skill hadn't given him any warnings...

Just as Jiang Cheng was about to mention Chaqin, Zhou Guanshan asked first...

"By the way, Young Master Jiang, the person behind you is...?"

His tone wasn't heavy, but it carried the characteristic prudence of an old soldier.

Wang Sheng took half a step forward, grinned, and extended his hand. "Uncle Zhou, I'm Wang Sheng. I spent some time over in Mae Sot back in the day."

Zhou Guanshan shook his hand with moderate pressure but held it for an extra half-second.

"Wang Sheng?" he repeated, his expression shifting slightly.

"I've heard of you." He nodded. "The people over in Mae Sot mentioned you. You took out half a company's worth of fire points by yourself, didn't you?"

Wang Sheng scratched his head, looking uncharacteristically embarrassed. "That's an exaggeration, an exaggeration. I only blew up two machine gun nests."

Zhou Guanshan didn't press further, but his gaze toward Wang Sheng clearly showed an added layer of approval.

He let go of the hand, turned back to Jiang Cheng, and returned to the main topic.

Jiang Cheng paused before speaking. "Uncle Zhou, do you know anyone with a tattoo on their neck?"

Zhou Guanshan's brow furrowed upon hearing this. "Are you talking about someone on this side or that side?"

Jiang Cheng recalled that the man had been speaking Burmese.

"That side. He has a ring of patterns on his neck that look like runes."

Zhou Guanshan fell silent for a moment. He picked up his teacup but didn't drink, just holding it as if searching through his memory.

"Young Master Jiang," his voice was very low, "if I'm not mistaken... the person you're talking about is named Chaqin."

"Chaqin?"

"He's from the Wa State. He's not with the regular armed forces; he's... the kind that specializes in 'business.' Kidnapping, extortion, assassination—he does it all. The blood on his hands is deeper than the waters of the Mekong River."

He paused and looked at Jiang Cheng—

"Is he looking for the Snake Girl too?"

Jiang Cheng nodded. "Kun Tui is being targeted by him."

Zhou Guanshan's frown deepened. "If he's asking about the Snake Girl... then this isn't just a matter of ordinary enemies."

Jiang Cheng didn't speak, looking out at the night sky through the window.

In the images provided by Danger Perception, Chaqin wasn't going after Kun Tui.

He was going after the Snake Girl.

After a few seconds of silence, Jiang Cheng turned his head back—

"Uncle Zhou, are there weapons over there?"

Zhou Guanshan's eyes narrowed slightly, but he didn't ask further. "There are, but how many do you need?"

Jiang Cheng thought for a moment. "Whatever you have, as long as it's powerful enough... the other side likely has heavy weaponry."

Zhou Guanshan nodded. "If it's Chaqin, we'll need AKs. I can also get RPGs, but RPGs make quite a lot of noise...?"

"Then prepare them anyway," Jiang Cheng replied.

Hearing this, Wang Sheng's eyes clearly lit up—it was that kind of restless, itching feeling, and his fingers unconsciously rubbed together.

Jiang Cheng ignored him and turned to look at Zhou Guanshan.

"Uncle Zhou, these weapons... can I borrow them?"

Zhou Guanshan was stunned for a moment, then he laughed.

"Young Master Jiang, saying 'borrow' is too formal." His tone was very natural. "These tools were all retired from the border years ago; they're just gathering dust. If you need them, just take them. Eight AKs, two RPGs, and plenty of ammunition."

He paused and added—

"Just return them when you're done. Their source can't be traced, so don't worry."

"Can they be delivered to the other side?" Jiang Cheng asked.

"Yes," Zhou Guanshan said. "I've been here for thirty years; I still have that much influence."

"Not through official channels," Jiang Cheng said.

Zhou Guanshan nodded. "Of course. Rest assured, Young Master Jiang, if this matter leaves through me, it won't reach a second pair of ears."

Jiang Cheng was clearly satisfied with this answer.

Although he could have asked Chen Ping, at this critical juncture, the fewer complications, the better. His father had just taken office; how many eyes were watching? This was also outside the country; if word leaked that Jiang Cheng was involved with people abroad, it wouldn't be a good thing.

Zhou Guanshan took a sip of tea, stood up, and said, "I'll go arrange the weapons first. They'll be delivered to your specified location early tomorrow morning."

As he walked to the door, he looked back at Wang Sheng.

"Little Wang," he called out, his tone much more casual than before, "those two RPGs, I maintained them personally. Try them out when the time comes."

Wang Sheng's eyes brightened. "You got it, Uncle Zhou! I'll make sure to use them well!"

Zhou Guanshan smiled, shook his head, and pushed the door open to leave.

After the door closed, Wang Sheng turned to Jiang Cheng and lowered his voice.

"Young Master Jiang, this Uncle Zhou... he's reliable."

Jiang Cheng glanced at him. "You know him?"

"I don't," Wang Sheng shook his head. "But the people in Mae Sot mentioned him. Back then on the border, he was known as 'Guanshan Men'—meaning that as long as he was guarding a place, no one could hope to pass."

Jiang Cheng leaned back in his chair, his tone indifferent. "And you didn't say so earlier last night."

Wang Sheng was stunned. "Huh?"

Wang Sheng opened his mouth, his expression looking a bit complicated.

He wanted to say something, but the words were swallowed back down as they reached his lips.

It wasn't that he didn't dare to say it.

It was... he didn't know how to say it.

He couldn't exactly say:

"Young Master Jiang, after we arrived here last night, you ran upstairs and spent the whole night in a room with Miss Qiu."

"You were comfortable enough."

"I was downstairs like a door god; I had to glare at anyone who came near."

"And now you're asking why I didn't say so earlier last night?"

"I wanted to say it, but you had to actually come down first."

But he could only let these thoughts swirl in his head.

Wang Sheng scratched his head and forced a smile.

"Young Master Jiang, you were... busy last night."

When he said the word "busy," his tone rose slightly in a subtle way, and his gaze drifted for a moment before quickly snapping back.

With that expression, he might as well have written "You were busy picking up girls, how would I dare disturb you?" on his face.

Jiang Cheng glanced at him.

Wang Sheng immediately straightened his expression and stood perfectly upright, his face practically screaming, "I wasn't thinking about anything just now"...
