Chapter 28 - Chapter 28 : Dungeon

Deep within the fortified walls of Stormvale, where even whispers seemed to carry weight, a lone figure knelt before the Intelligence Bureau General.

The chamber was dimly lit, illuminated only by a few embedded crystal lamps that glowed faintly against the carved stone walls. The air was heavy with silence, the kind that demanded precision in every word spoken,

"The three heroes from Rivergate have entered the dungeon," the spy reported, his head bowed.

"As per instruction, the test has begun..."

The general stood still, his expression unreadable. His arms were crossed behind his back as he listened.

"And their behavior?" he asked.

"Composed, Confident, No signs of hesitation…"

A brief pause followed

"Good," the general said quietly, "This information must reach His Majesty immediately…"

He turned slightly and signaled to another officer standing nearby.

"Inform the king, He will want to know this…"

Without delay, the officer nodded and left the chamber.

In the upper levels of Stormvale, inside a grand hall carved from solid stone and reinforced with dwarven craftsmanship, the Stormvale King stood near a long table, reviewing documents.

He was moments away from proceeding toward a diplomatic meeting with the Rivergate delegation when the doors opened. The messenger entered swiftly, kneeling before the throne.

"Your Majesty," he said, "the heroes from Rivergate have entered the dungeon. The Intelligence Bureau has initiated their evaluation."

The king's eyes narrowed slightly.

For a brief moment, he remained silent, considering the information.

Then, slowly, he set the documents aside.

"…Delay the meeting," he said

The messenger looked up, surprised but attentive.

"I want to see the results of this test first," the king continued. "Before we decide anything… we must understand what kind of power Rivergate holds."

The messenger bowed, "As you command "

Meanwhile, in a well furnished chamber prepared for foreign dignitaries, the Rivergate diplomatic minister sat calmly, accompanied by a few knights.

The atmosphere was relaxed, almost leisurely. He seemed to be in no hurry.

Moments later, a palace attendant entered and bowed respectfully.

"Honored minister," he said, "His Majesty has been called away due to urgent matters. He requests that the meeting be postponed until evening."

The minister listened quietly,

"You are welcome to remain within the palace," the attendant continued. "All facilities are at your disposal. Stormvale will ensure your comfort."

A faint smile appeared on the minister's face.

"Of course," he replied, "Matters of state can be unpredictable. I understand…"

He stood up, adjusting his coat.

"In the meantime, I believe I shall visit the merchant's guild. There are always… interesting things to observe."

The attendant nodded,

"We will inform you once the meeting is ready."

The minister gave a slight nod and walked out of the chamber, his expression calm, almost satisfied.

Deep beneath the surface, the dungeon gates had already closed behind the three heroes. The environment inside was vastly different from the outside world. The air was dense with magical energy, thick and heavy, pressing subtly against the senses. The walls were carved stone, reinforced with dwarven runes that faintly glowed along the edges.

This was not a wild dungeon….

This was a controlled one….

Darian stretched his arms, a grin spreading across his face.

"Now this… this feels right," he said

Torin glanced around, his eyes sharp, "Stay focused "

Selva said nothing,

But she felt it…..

The moment they stepped inside, the magical aura of the dungeon amplified their senses. Their connection to their elements grew stronger, sharper, more responsive. And within that heightened awareness…

Selva noticed something,

A presence…..

Not one…..

Three…..

Faint….. Hidden…Careful…..

Watching…..

Her eyes shifted slightly, scanning the shadows but she gave no reaction.

She said nothing,

The first wave of monsters emerged quickly.

A large, muscular creature with the head of a buffalo charged forward, its massive axe dragging against the ground. Without hesitation, Darian stepped forward,

"Mine…..."

His blade ignited instantly, flames wrapping around the steel as if it had been waiting for this moment.

The creature roared and swung its axe downward.

Darian didn't dodge…

He moved forward. In a single motion, his flaming blade cut through the air and through the monster.

A clean strike….

The creature froze… then collapsed.

A glowing crystal dropped to the ground.

Darian smirked., "Too easy…."

Moments later, the ground trembled again. A massive serpent burst from the side wall, its body coiling through the air with terrifying speed.

Torin stepped forward this time.

He didn't speak….

He simply raised his hand…

Lightning gathered instantly ,sharp, focused, precise.

The moment the serpent lunged ,Torin moved.

A single strike…..

A flash of light…..

The serpent's body split cleanly, its momentum dying mid air before crashing to the ground. Another crystal dropped.

Torin exhaled lightly, "Done "

Further ahead, a massive hobgoblin stepped into their path.

Towering at nearly nine feet tall, it carried a heavy shield in one hand and a brutal axe in the other. Its presence was far more imposing than the previous creatures.

It locked its gaze onto Selva and charged. Darian stepped forward, but Selva raised her hand slightly.

"I'll handle this…."

She stepped forward calmly. The hobgoblin roared, lifting its axe to strike.

Selva didn't move….

She simply lifted her hand… and flicked her finger downward.

"Smash…"

In an instant, the ground responded.

From all directions, massive stone pillars erupted, above, below, and from the sides.

Before the hobgoblin could react they collided,

Crushing…..

Shattering….

Silence followed…..

Where the creature once stood, only broken stone remained.

Another crystal fell. Selva turned back without a word.

From the shadows, unseen by the trio, the dwarven spies watched in silence.

Their expressions had changed.

"Fire… overwhelming output," one whispered.

"Lightning… precise, Efficient "

Another paused before speaking again,

"…Earth."

There was a brief silence.

"She didn't hesitate "

The third spy narrowed his eyes.

"She knew…."

Time passed….

Floor after floor, the three heroes advanced with overwhelming dominance. Monsters fell quickly, efficiently, without struggle.

Eventually, they emerged from the dungeon. Each of them carried a bag filled with shimmering crystals.

Inside the guild hall, the receptionist froze when she saw them.

"…That many?"

She quickly began the evaluation.

The result shocked even her.

"This…" she said, her voice slightly unsteady, "…this is the highest yield recorded in centuries."

Darian grinned, "Not bad….."

"You will each receive five thousand gold Paro," she continued, "And your names… will be placed on the guild's achievement board "

Torin nodded slightly…..

Selva remained calm….

As the three left the guild and made their way back toward the inn, the city seemed quieter than before.

But deep within Stormvale's core…

A meeting had already begun. The king sat at the head of the chamber. The Intelligence General stood before him, presenting the full report,

Every detail...

Every movement…..

Every display of power…..

Silence followed….

Then, the king spoke,

"…So this is the strength Rivergate possesses."

He leaned back slightly, his gaze thoughtful.

"If we choose to stand against them…"

He paused…..

"…we may not survive what follows "

The room remained silent.

Then, slowly, he gave his decision.

"…Prepare for alliance talks "

A faint tension filled the air,

"Because if we do not join hands with Rivergate now…"

His voice lowered,

"…we may one day be forced to bow before them..."
