Chapter 9 - Sekirei Hunt 4

No.4 Mutsu, one of the first batch of Sekirei, once part of the Disciple Squad in its first iteration. As part of the first batch of Sekirei rolled out by MBI to protect the island where the rest of his kind are hidden from the world.

He had fought and killed soldiers. Destroyed mankind's weapons, from tanks to ships, his power making easy work no matter what they throw at him. Him and the rest of the Disciplinary Squad we're the strongest not because of their number due to this experience.

Through the whole ordeal, they gained experience and honed their own skills to match they're own powers. Mutsu naturally gravitated in controlling and creating terrain, the ground itself as his weapon with his ability to manipulate the earth via localized earthquakes. A testament of his development in his time defending the island back then.

Yet at this very moment, those skill and experience is being tested by a Sekirei who haven't seen the real world yet!

An explosion of dirt and asphalt enveloped the street, a detonation of pure force reaching as tall as small house as result. At the center, No.84 Yashima lifted her hammer from the deep crater formed by her weird yet powerful weapon. Mutsu's eyes narrowed at the girl enveloped in electricity, sparks crackling around her wildly. Looking at the weapon, it is definitely not made by MBI. The aesthetics and design doesn't match. Even though he can't discern it's origin, he can tell the truth.

The hammer is giving her power.

"Haaaah!" With a roar, the girl once again moved with explosive speed. The ground beneath her feet gouged as she moved, cutting the distance between them in single breath.

That single breath is all he needed.

Mutsu's scabbard tapped on the street and the road answered. Before Yashima could swing her hammer, a pillar of dirt emerged from the ground. It perfectly rose at the center of her swing between her hammer's shaft, making her swing stop awkwardly.

Yashima gasped at the sudden halt, surprised and confused how did he stop her until she looked behind to see the resistance on her hammer.

[Fool! Don't take your eyes off the enemy!]

The voice screamed in her head as she felt her instincts scream at her. Just in time as Mutsu used her distraction to stab her with his uchigatana.

Normally, Mutsu would never unsheath his blade against any Sekirei unless it's Karasuba or the number one. Yet this girl, who's strength borrowed from an unknown weapon is too dangerous to left alone in the game. She already eliminated Taki, one of Mikogami-sama's best Sekirei in manipulating the environment with a single strike. Her presence alone would put the entire game in disarray.

No wonder Minaka had her hunted. She's far too much of a wild card. A game breaking cheat if he would borrow Mikogami-sama's words.

The blade pierced flesh and blood was spilled on the dirt.

"Hnngh!!!" Yashima grunted, searing hot pain blooming at her shoulder being pierced by the blade. At the last second, she managed to lean sideways to avoid the strike. Still, she didn't came out unscathed. With a shaking hand, she reached for the blade stabbing through her shoulder.

Mutsu clicked his tongue at the missed attack but didn't dwell on it long. As the girl grasped the blade, he felt static in the air. Almost immediately, he let go of the uchigatana and stepped back. His intuition saved him as electricity traveled through the blade. Despite the loss of his blade, Mutsu is no slouch as a fighter. Twisting his body, he threw a roundhouse kick at the girl. Yashima flew to the side and smashed into the nearby wall, crumbling it to pieces.

Covered in cement and dust, Yashima coughed. Her sides hurt a lot more than her shoulder right now. Mutsu's kick definitely broke a rib or two, far painful than the blade impaled at her shoulder which isn't nice to begin with. Grasping the blade and cutting her hand, Yashima braced herself.

"AH!" Mutsu heard her gasp, having pulled the blade as he approached her. The girl's lying on top a pile of broken bricks, cement and dirt, bloody and bruised. His uchigatana clattered on the ground after extracting the weapon out of her shoulder.

"Yo-You tried to kill me!?" Yashima looked at her assailant casually approaching her. Her heart beating wildly at the near death experience. Sekirei fights are never meant to the death but it can happen and it's frowned upon. To think she would experience it.

"Of course, your dangerous." Mutsu replied without a beat, "I don't know where or what that weapon is but with you wielding it, your nothing but a danger to yourself and everyone else."

Yashima gritted her teeth at his response. Pulling herself up in a seated position, she can see that she had left her hammer embedded on that pillar of dirt behind the other Sekirei. She's left defenseless as the enemy Sekirei approach her. It's a bad spot for her.

Before she could speak again, Mutsu tapped his scabbard to the ground again. In an instant, Yashima's position erupted in a plume of dirt and debris as Mutsu localized an earthquake underneath her. Dust covered the spot, obscuring her from vision but Mutsu wasn't worried. The attack definitely hurt the girl and he didn't do it randomly without though. From the dust, his uchigatana flew in the air before it was plucked by his hand.

He did it to retrieve his blade safely without entering her range.

But it looks like it wasn't over yet as Yashima's figure rolled out of the dust covered in dirt. Mutsu was about to move and cut her down before a flash of gold halted him. His instincts saved him once again as the weird hammer appeared in her hands once more. With a yell of frustration, Yashima sent a huge wave of lightning towards him. It was a big surge, far stronger compared to those lightning twins he once met.

Yet it fell short as he tapped the road and a wall of asphalt blocked the attack. Of course the small wall was obliterated by her attack yet it did it's job in protecting Mustu.

As the dust settled, he found her missing. Mutsu looked around till he noticed a trail of droplets of blood on the road.

She's not far.

Gasp....Gasp....Gasp

Running in the empty streets, Yashima panted as she try to get far as possible from the male Sekirei. She doesn't recognize him but she had heard of stories and tales about the Disciplinary Squad, one of them being a male Sekirei with the ability to manipulate dirt into whatever fits his needs. To think she would meet that kind of monster early in the game.

She can't fight him.

She is stronger than before, yes! But can she actually beat that man? No!

The disparity in skill and experience are far too great. Even with her new weapon and power, that she had no idea where it came from, she would still lose and be terminated. Termination will be the best outcome of such confrontation but Mutsu didn't just try to terminate her.

He was actually attempting to kill her.

The realization alone gave her shivers down her spine. To kill her? That's just too extreme. She knows that whatever new found strength she gained is dangerous but it doesn't mean it would warrant her death.

Right?

"Urk!" Suddenly, Yashima's steps faltered as her body screamed in pain. She wavered and swayed, forcing her to lean on a nearby brick wall.

Her body's in pain. It was like her entire nerves are on fire and her limbs felt heavy!

[Oh my, I may have outdid myself this time?]

'Who?' Yashima asks in her head. She's been hearing a voice in her head for a while now since she got her hammer but she can't point out where.

[Don't worry about me now! Worry about yourself! You need to get out of this place and find somewhere big and open for us to move effectively to fight that guy]

'But I don't want to fight, he's too strong.'

[Which is even better!]

Great, the voice in her head is crazy.

[Oh! On your left by the way]

The warning came to close. From her left, Mutsu appeared like a hawk from above. His blade singing downwards to cut her down. Yashima dodged, clumsily throwing herself forward into a roll before sitting up on one knee.

"Yaaah!" She swung her hammer, aiming at his center mass. Mutsu immediately jumped back, letting the hammer sail and smash into the brick wall in an explosion of dust and debris. Yashima cursed at her clumsiness as she immediately used the head of her hammer as a shield to block what's about to happen.

Using the debris, Mutsu sent them flying to her with a flick of his power and ingenuity. The projectiles flew to Yashima's improvised shield. The sound of dirt crashing to the golden hammer rang as the attack landed yet none reach the girl behind her small sanctuary.

Not until Mutsu moved, slashing at her. Yashima yelped, surprised but reacting quickly enough to block and try to fight back. Almost immediately, she regretted it. Not only she is outclassed in skill and experience, Mutsu outspeed her too. His swings are faster, making her struggle in blocking or deflecting his attacks. Already, she sustaining multiple cuts on her arms. The only reason she hadn't let go of her hammer in pain is because of the knowledge if she does, she will surely die.

[Girly, drive the hammer to the ground now!]

Desperate and very much tired, Yashima listened.

"Haaaaah!" With loud yell, she raised her hammer to smash her attacker.

"Naive!" Mutsu immediately capitalized the opening, swinging his sword to literally disarm her. His blade sang for blood.

It was the worst scenario for Yashima! The hammer's weight is still incredibly heavy despite her strength and with her arms committed in swinging high above, she has no time to block or dodge.

She will lose her arms at this point.

[Not what I meant but this will do]

In an instant, Yashima felt every fiber of her being burn as violent wave of power was over her. From the outside, her entire body lit up in bright flash as electricity coursed through her entire body. Despite the pain, she felt strong.

Twice stronger in her current state!

Her hammer swung down like lightning, faster than Mutsu's blade.

The crack of thunder and the flash of lightning echoed in the distance as Homura finally freed himself from his little prison. His arms covered in burn courtesy of the scalding dirt he had to break off.

"I hope I'm not too late." He muttered, wincing as he ignored his injuries and pushed himself to move despite the pain. He can deal with it after rescuing Yashima.

After running and scaling multiple homes and walls, Homura finally arrived at the scene of the battle.

It was grim.

The street is littered with craters and asphalt, courtesy of Yashima's hammer and Mutsu's power. Multiple walls and fences are broken down, some even damaging the houses inside. Homura silently apologized to the owners before his eyes landed on the two Sekirei.

One left standing and the other bleeding to death.

"Oh my? I didn't expect that. To think Mutsu would actually lose to a little bird." Karasuba said to herself, looking at the scene far away on a random rooftop using a sniper rifle's scope of all things.

"He's your friend?" Shirou asked right beside her, using a different rifle and scope.

"He is. Part of the first Disciplinary Squad. Of the first one, I'm the only one left." Karasuba said as she watch Mutsu pick himself up, bleeding profusely.

That happens when you lost an arm.

Yashima's last attack came crashing down on Mutsu before her old teammate could raise his guard. The only reason he's still alive is because he had enough survival skills to move away from the full force of the attack, only losing his right arm and blade in the process.

"He had gone soft." She shook her head in disappointment.

"No sympathy on your old colleague?" Shirou muttered, noticing her disappointment.

"Why should I?" Karasuba turned to him, "It's his own carelessness that led him to this. It's his own fault." She said as a matter of fact.

Shirou shook his head at her. Truly, Karasuba's a simple yet complex creature.

On the street, Mutsu had managed to stand up despite the missing right arm. Meanwhile, Yashima finally collapse as another Sekirei appeared. Her last attack had taken all of her strength it seems. Meanwhile, Mutsu began to retreat at the appearance of the other Sekirei. Missing his sword and arm, he's left with his scabbard as his weapon while bleeding. Shirou doubted he could still fight under those conditions.

The other Sekirei watched Mutsu retreat until the man was gone. Afterwards, they picked up Yashima and ran away, leaving behind the golden hammer.

Time to pick up his wayward weapon and get some answers.

Questions?

As to how Yashima gained a boosts of strength mid fight, it's because of one of Thor's Noble Phantasm.

Meginjord, a belt that doubles one's strength. With Yashima basically wielding Mjolnir and borrowing Thor's essence like Mash and Galahad, Yashima gained access to this Noble Phantasm at a cost.

To her, it's like a broken Reinforcement spell but her body is not meant to handle it so it broke down.

Not to mention, Thor's power is harmful to Sekirei and to Yashima.
