Liora kept her eyes on Elias for a long second.
He had read her too accurately. He knew what she wanted. He also knew she would not act on it here, not with the driver's seat under her and the road waiting ahead. So he leaned into that line with a kind of open, shameless invitation, as if daring her to prove him wrong.
Elias was playing with fire again, but he always seemed to know exactly where the burn began. One more inch and he would have gone too far. One more breath and the flame would have caught. Then, before it could, he pinched it out himself.
Liora turned her face back toward the windshield and stepped on the gas.
She ignored him after that, and Elias, for once, did not keep pushing.
