Yvonne's warning did not change Serena's expression.
Brief disorder in Elias's memories had been explained before the procedure began. Serena had already heard it, understood it, and agreed. Hearing it again now only made the room narrow around her for a moment, drawing her thoughts back to that earlier conversation.
Yvonne had stood across from her then with the same composed face, her voice measured enough to make even the most grotesque proposal sound like a clinical option.
"The human brain is the most complex machine in the world," Yvonne had said. "Even for me, there is no absolute guarantee that hypnosis will give you the effect you want."
"I understand that." Serena had not blinked. "Tell me the method with the highest success rate, and tell me the number."
