Chapter 76 - Yang Yuan Lectures on Spirit Development

The day after Yang Yuan returned to Heaven Dou Academy, he paid a visit to Qian Renxue at the Crown Prince's Mansion.

Qian Renxue asked how his Rank had soared overnight.

Yang Yuan answered with a casual smile, "I suppose I have Mother Nature to thank—on the way back I picked up a Spirit Bone."

At that, understanding dawned on Qian Renxue's Face.

No wonder; absorbing a Spirit Bone does raise one's level, especially an untouched one, since it still holds a portion of the Spirit Beast's Origin energy.

She sighed, "Xiao Yuan, not only is your talent godlike, your Luck is unbelievably strong as well."

Yang Yuan waved a hand and chuckled, "I admit it—if Luck hadn't chosen me, how could I have Awakened my current Spirit, let alone started at Innate level twenty?"

"True enough," Qian Renxue said with a light laugh.

She had assumed his leap in Spirit Power Level might have come from some Heaven And Earth TreasureDugu Bo had given him.

After all, she knew he was close to the girl from the Dugu Family.

Learning the sudden boost had nothing to do with Dugu Bo, however, made her inexplicably relax.

Perhaps she simply didn't want Yang Yuan owing the Dugu Family such a huge favor.

Even Qian Renxue couldn't help envying his fortune—

He'd gone home and come back with a priceless Spirit Bone.

Judging by the increase in his level, she could tell the bone was of extraordinary quality, very likely tens of thousands of years old.

Even a veteran Titled Douluo like Snake Lance Douluo didn't possess a single ten-thousand-year Spirit Bone.

Qian Renxue had long wanted to procure one for him, but had held off for fear he might question its source.

After Yang Yuan left, she rested her chin in her hand and fell into thought.

Although she couldn't send him a Spirit Bone under her current identity, there was another way—the Soul Master Tournament.

Every year the tournament offered prizes; she could write to her grandfather and have him select one or two suitable Spirit Bones from Spirit Hall's vault.

Anything less than fifty-thousand years wouldn't befit Yang Yuan's status.

Fifty-thousand-year Spirit Bones were treasures even super-Douluo above Rank ninety-five coveted.

Leaving the Crown Prince's Mansion, Yang Yuan stopped by Dugu Bo's residence.

Finding him away, Yang Yuan skipped the trip to Sunset Forest.

On his third day back, Meng Shenji sent someone to ask him to spend time with the exchange students from Five Elements Academy.

"Exchange" was simply a polite way of asking him to give the visitors a few pointers.

Word of his display on the Training Ground two days earlier had shocked the Five Elements teachers, who all begged Meng Shenji for closer cooperation.

Heaven Dou Academy had earned prestige, and the Three Committee Members had gained Face, so they dispatched a messenger to Yang Yuan.

He didn't refuse; he owed the Three Committee Members that courtesy, and he occasionally tutored his own classmates anyway.

Teaching one class or a crowd made little difference.

Training Ground.

On an open plot, Yu Tianxin and Huo Wushuang were locked in fierce combat.

Both were Rank thirty-nine, wielding dominant attack systemSpirits, trading blow for blow.

Students from Five Elements Academy and Heaven Dou Class One had arrived early and split into several pairs for sparring: Shui Binger versus Feng Xiaotian, Huo Wu versus Huyan Li, and Yu Tianxin versus Huo Wushuang.

When Yang Yuan arrived, Huo Wu had just beaten Huyan Li.

Though thick-skinned and neither weak in offense nor defense, Huyan Li was too clumsy; Huo Wu's Third Spirit Ability, Repulsing Fire Ring, kept knocking him away, preventing him from closing in.

The other two matches ended quickly as well.

The Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon's reputation as the continent's premier Beast Spirit was well-earned; at the same RankHuo Wushuang was clearly outclassed by Yu Tianxin.

As for Shui Binger and Feng Xiaotian, their fight was close, but with lower Rank and no Martial Soul Fusion Skill available, Shui Binger predictably lost.

After the bouts, seeing Yang Yuan present, the students gathered.

He cleared his throat and stepped forward.

"At the request of our Three Committee Members, I'll share some cultivation insights today; how much you grasp will depend on your own fortune."

Most listeners turned solemn, though a few looked skeptical.

Huyan Li muttered, "Talent's fixed from birth; even if he speaks flowers into bloom, can he speed up my Cultivation?"

He had a point; most high-level teachers could offer only combat experience and basic theory.

But Yang Yuan was no ordinary teacher.

Over the years he had read every book in Heaven Dou Academy, the Heaven Dou royal collection, and Spirit Hall's library—thanks to Qian Renxue's private help. His theoretical knowledge alone could outmatch a hundred Yu Xiaogangs.

Across the continent no one understood Spirits better.

That mastery, combined with his double-pupil ability to see an Origin, let him develop each Spirit to its utmost potential.

On a broad patch of ground Yang Yuan spoke at ease.

"Some of you may feel that since talent is Innate, my insights won't help you."

"But today I'll show you how to exploit talent rationally—even transcend it."

"As we know, Spirits evolve; each absorbed spirit ring advances the Spirit, which is why identical Spirits and Ranks can differ in strength."

Most of his audience, now grave and attentive, sensed something profound in his words.

He smiled and gave an example.

"You've all heard of the Clear Sky Hammer."

Everyone nodded.

Who hadn't?

He continued, "Then how much do you know about the Clear Sky DouluoTang Chen of decades past?"

As a direct Disciple of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Yu Tianxin knew plenty of secrets.

"Of course," he said. "His Excellency, the Clear Sky Douluo, swept the world with his Clear Sky Hammer; even Spirit Hall's High Priest couldn't touch him, and my grandfather admired him greatly."

Yang Yuan nodded. "True—literature has no absolute first, but martial arts always has a champion."

"Though the Clear Sky Hammer is a top Tool Spirit, others can rival it, yet it reigns unchallenged as the continent's number-one Tool Spirit—Tang Chen deserves seventy percent of the credit."

Someone asked, "What does that have to do with your point?"

Yang Yuan laughed. "Everything. Tang Chen and Spirit Hall's High PriestQian Daoliu were both peerless geniuses with perfect spirit ring configurations."

"The Angel Spirit's quality even surpasses the Clear Sky Hammer, yet Tang Chen fought Qian Daoliu to a standstill with his hammer alone."

"Isn't that proof he pushed the Clear Sky Hammer to its extreme?"

True, Tang Chen possessed the secret Great Sumeru Hammer, but Spirit Hall's Legacy spans ten thousand years and once produced the Angel God—do you think it lacks hidden trump cards?
