Chapter 14 - Chapter 13 – The Oni Samurai Rises

Kai woke before dawn, his eyes snapping open as if guided by instinct rather than rest. For a moment, he lay still, feeling the rhythm of his breathing and the quiet pulse of power moving beneath his skin. Then he smiled faintly.

The fusion was complete.

Roger's overwhelming will, Oden's monstrous vitality, and his own Seraphic core had finally harmonized. His body felt lighter yet stronger, and his Haki flowed like a calm but endless ocean.

He clenched his fist slowly. "So this is what it feels like…"

The air around him trembled faintly as his Armament Haki coated his knuckles in an invisible layer. He sat up and reached for his sword, stepping outside into the cool morning air.

The forest surrounding his safe house was still wrapped in mist. Birds had just begun their songs, unaware that a future storm was sharpening its blade beneath their branches.

Kai exhaled and began with physical training.

Push-ups. Squats. Sprint bursts across uneven terrain. Each movement precise, controlled, efficient. His eight-year-old body moved with a discipline far beyond his age.

"Faster," he muttered to himself. "Stronger."

After exhausting his muscles, he drew his sword and began practice swings. The blade cut through the air with crisp, clean arcs, each strike guided by refined technique rather than wild power.

He moved through Oden's dual-sword forms, then shifted into Roger's heavier, more domineering style. The clash of philosophies felt natural inside him.

"Not brute force," he murmured. "Control."

By the time the sun rose fully, sweat covered his body. He sheathed his sword and walked toward the nearby stream to bathe.

The cold water washed away exhaustion, but his mind remained sharp.

After changing into clean clothes, he returned inside the safe house and checked on Toki.

She was still asleep.

However, her breathing was steady now. The pale weakness from yesterday had faded, and color had returned to her cheeks. The Seraph Contract was working exactly as intended.

Kai nodded in satisfaction. "Good. You're recovering."

He left quietly and made his way toward the Flower Capital, keeping his presence subtle. The city was tense, whispers of Oden's death still spreading like poison.

At a clothing stall, he examined fabrics carefully.

"These are for… my older sister," he said casually to the shopkeeper.

The woman smiled sadly. "Hard times. Everyone is losing someone."

Kai paid without bargaining. He purchased simple but comfortable garments, bandages, and daily necessities. Toki's old clothes had been burned and soaked in blood.

As he walked back through the streets, he overheard hushed conversations.

"They say a strange swordsman appeared yesterday."

"They call him the Oni Samurai."

"They say he carries a blade named Akatsuki."

Kai's lips curved slightly. "That name isn't bad."

He returned to the safe house by midday. Toki had not stirred.

After preparing a simple meal for himself, he sat beside her and gently wiped her arms and face with a wet cloth. Dried blood stains were cleaned carefully.

"I'm a good man," he muttered. "Absolutely noble."

When it came time to change her clothes, he closed his eyes.

"I did not peek," he stated firmly to the empty room. "I used Observation Haki to sense her position while dressing her. Completely honorable."

He finished quickly and respectfully.

Afterward, he spoon-fed her the liquid food he had prepared, lifting her slightly so she wouldn't choke.

"Come on," he said softly. "You need energy."

The Seraph Contract accelerated regeneration, but healing still required nutrition. Once finished, he reinforced the entrance of the safe house, reshaping terrain and masking presence until it was nearly impossible to detect.

By noon, he shrank to ant-size and took flight.

He searched for Kawamatsu and Hiyori, weaving through forests, rivers, and abandoned paths. His Observation Haki expanded carefully, scanning for unfamiliar but significant presences.

"Where are you hiding…" he murmured.

He searched until midday heat rose harshly from the ground. Still nothing.

Kai hovered midair, frowning slightly. "Fine. I'll find you later."

By afternoon, he wore a simple Oni mask and adjusted his size manipulation. His body stretched, bones shifting, muscles expanding.

Within seconds, he appeared as a man around twenty to twenty-five years old.

He tightened his grip on Akatsuki. "Time to build a reputation."

He entered a remote training ground where samurai loyal to Orochi practiced.

One of them noticed him first. "Who are you?"

Kai tilted his masked head slightly. "Just a wandering swordsman."

Another scoffed. "Take off that mask."

"No," Kai replied calmly.

Steel flashed.

The first samurai lunged. Kai stepped sideways, blade whispering through the air. The clash rang sharp and clear.

"You're fast," the samurai grunted.

"You're slow," Kai answered evenly.

He defeated three within minutes. Only skill. Only control.

More arrived.

"Surround him!"

Kai laughed softly. "That won't help."

He moved like a storm wrapped in discipline, striking with precision rather than overwhelming force. Each opponent fell unconscious, never fatally wounded.

After the fight, a surviving samurai muttered in fear, "The Oni Samurai… carrying Akatsuki…"

Kai turned slightly. "Remember that name."

By evening, rumors spread rapidly.

"The Oni Samurai defeated twelve men alone!"

"He fights like Oden!"

"No… like a demon!"

Even within Onigashima, whispers reached familiar ears.

Kaido drank from his gourd, eyes narrowing slightly. "An Oni Samurai?"

Orochi trembled. "F-find him! Immediately!"

Search parties were dispatched, but Kai was already gone.

The next morning followed the same rhythm. Training at dawn. Bathing. Feeding Toki. Cleaning her wounds.

As he spoon-fed her again, he sighed lightly. "Wake up soon. I don't like talking to myself."

After securing the safe house, he stared toward the distant silhouette of Onigashima.

"I miss Yamato."

He coughed lightly. "Not like that."

In his mind, it was already decided. The moment he entered this world, Yamato had been destined as his crew's vice-captain.

"And if Hancock joins," he muttered thoughtfully, "she'll be my second wing. Like Luffy's Sanji. Like Roger's Gaban."

He paused, considering future rivals.

"As for Loki… that's complicated."

The Prince of Elbaf was monstrously strong. Kai did not lack confidence in eventually defeating him, but time was limited.

"If I take over Shiki instead… things could shift."

He smirked slightly. "Whitebeard would naturally come during the Summit War."

Still, he intended to try recruiting Loki.

"I'll at least ask," he said. "No harm in offering."

With that, he shrank again to ant-size and took flight toward Onigashima. The massive skull-shaped island loomed ahead, dark and imposing.

As he approached, he whispered quietly, "Vice-captain Yamato… your captain has arrived."

And like a silent shadow beneath the horns of a dragon, Kai slipped into enemy territory.
