Chapter 94 - Chapter 94: Kobe’s Life-Taking Deep Three

"Hahaha!"

"Oh my God!"

Inside the broadcast studio, Mike Breen could no longer stay seated. He jumped up in excitement. Luckily, the camera had already cut to the live game, sparing viewers from his loss of composure.

"Thirteen threes! Sixty-three points! Against the defending champions, Blake Su has completely lost his mind tonight—he's gone berserk! Blake Su… he's a pure sharpshooter!"

Mike Breen roared.

Jeff Van Gundy couldn't sit still either. Clenching his fists, eyes wide, he said excitedly, "A center hitting 13 threes in a single game? That's unreasonable—completely unreasonable!

But.

When it's a center with shooting ability like Blake Su, then it becomes reasonable. It becomes real. He's the one capable of delivering a god-level performance like this.

Blake Su… is truly elite!"

The two commentators were fully fired up. Across the country, fans watching in offices, dorms, and living rooms were pumping their fists and shouting in excitement.

Pure exhilaration.

Inside the arena, Roger Federer, Messi, Mai Kuraki, Taylor Swift, and a host of celebrities were all on their feet, cheering wildly for Blake Su's latest three.

Deafening cheers flooded the arena. Blake Su's 13th three pushed the atmosphere to its absolute peak.

The Suns' home-court energy was completely overwhelming the Lakers.

Beep! Beep!

Even though they were only down three, even with 3:44 remaining, Phil Jackson had no choice but to shake his head and call timeout, trying to cool off the Suns' surging momentum.

After the timeout.

Pau Gasol backed down Frye in the low post, spun, and rose for a jumper.

Swish!

Good.

Coming out of the timeout, Gasol's bucket steadied the situation slightly. Nash pushed the ball up, dribbled to one side, then swung it back to Blake Su at the top of the arc.

Step!

Step!

Artest and Pau Gasol once again rushed out, forming a tight trap. They absolutely could not allow Blake Su another easy three.

At the same time, the Suns cranked up their defense on Kobe—switching on every screen and sending quick help on every drive. Kobe already had 43 points; they couldn't let him score freely in the closing stretch.

As a result, the secondary stars—Curry for the Suns and Pau Gasol for the Lakers—took on more offensive responsibility.

For the next two-plus minutes, it turned into Curry vs. Pau Gasol.

Both managed to score, but under heavy defensive pressure, neither was efficient. The gap never widened.

Soon, only 1:28 remained in the fourth quarter.

Clang!

Curry missed a three.

Clang!

Gasol missed a mid-range jumper after a post-up.

Both teams fell into a scoring drought. The Lakers held a slim one-point lead.

Thump! Thump! Thump!

On the left wing above the arc, Blake Su controlled the ball. This was the moment he had to step up.

Facing pressure from Artest and Gasol, Blake Su's eyes sharpened.

Whoosh!

He drove straight down the middle. Carter stepped up to screen off Gasol. Blake Su accelerated through the lane. Artest stayed with him, and—

Kobe slid over from the wing to trap.

"Double-team?!"

Blake Su narrowed his eyes. Already in motion, he had no intention of stopping.

Whoosh!

He didn't slow down—he sped up again, bursting into the paint. He gathered the ball and took a hop step into the restricted area. Bynum rotated over.

Three big men surrounded him.

Fortune favors the bold.

Bang!

Blake Su powered up through all three defenders, rising hard. Hanging in the air, he adjusted mid-flight, drifting sideways—

Avoiding six outstretched arms—

And released a high bank shot.

Beep! Beep!

The whistle blew.

Bynum, not expecting Blake Su to hang that long, had jumped early and slapped his arm.

"No!!!"

Bynum grabbed his head in frustration, shocked that a center like Blake Su could stay in the air that long.

Gasol walked over and patted his shoulder, calming him down.

What was done was done. Staying focused was what mattered now.

In the stands, Wade smiled.

"Who would've thought the Suns, who looked like they were tanking early in the season, would push the Lakers this far?"

LeBron nodded.

"Yeah. Early on, the Suns lacked a true offensive centerpiece—they were clearly weaker.

But once Blake Su arrived—this rookie center who's hit 13 threes and dropped 63 tonight—he filled that void.

Now they're back to being a Western powerhouse, just like last season."

"Exactly."

On the court, Blake Su stepped to the free-throw line.

Make both, and the Suns take the lead with 57.4 seconds left. That would mean the psychological edge.

However—

Clang!

Clang!

He missed both.

Yes.

At this critical moment, Blake Su bricked both free throws. His free-throw shooting wasn't elite, but he usually made at least one.

This time—

He missed them all.

Completely unexpected.

And disastrous for the Suns.

Under the rim, Frye alone couldn't outmuscle Pau Gasol and Bynum. Gasol secured the rebound and handed it to Kobe.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

Kobe walked it up calmly. With a one-point lead, he wasn't in a rush. He bled the clock down to about ten seconds, called for a screen, and moved to the right wing above the arc.

Then—

From nearly two meters beyond the three-point line—

Facing Carter's contest—

He suddenly rose for a fadeaway three.

"Wow!"

"From way downtown!"

The entire arena held its breath.

The spinning ball cut through the air—

Swish!

Nothing but net.

Boom!

The arena exploded.

With just 37.4 seconds left, Kobe Bryant drilled a deep, cold-blooded three, stretching the lead to four.

"My God!"

"That three from Kobe is brutal!"

In the studio, Mike Breen clutched his head, brow tightly furrowed. The situation had turned disastrous for the Suns.

Jeff Van Gundy said gravely, "That's a completely unreasonable shot selection.

But because it's Kobe, it becomes reasonable—and it goes in.

If Blake Su had just made those two free throws, it would've been manageable.

But at this moment, that deep three from Kobe is a killer."

Mike Breen nodded reluctantly.

"They're facing the defending champion Lakers. Down four, 37.4 seconds left…

The Suns are in serious trouble tonight."
