After Caelan left Kelvin, he didn't go back to Rain. He walked to the gate. There, Vegas was already in his car, just waiting. The moment Cealan stepped out of the gates, without thinking, he got down, not even waiting for the guard to help him open the door.
"I..."
"I don't want to hear it," Cealan said sternly.
"When will you be coming back?" Vegas asked, his hands clasped together.
"What is it to you if I return or not? Last I checked, you wanted me dead."
"I...didn't," Vegas whispered, but his body had already betrayed him.
Cealan stepped closer, his breath heavy. "You forget I know you too well, Vegas," he whispered. The words drilled down like cold water. "Every time you lie...your eyes flicker. Not long, but quick enough not to go unnoticed."
Vegas' breath hitched, his hands trembling. "He...he saved your legs," he said.
"Yes...the same legs you crippled."
