Cealan didn't sleep all through that night, and worse, something bothered him more than that. Kebel was absent. That was unusual. But there was nothing he could do. Visiting the King's private chamber without Rain was against the law, so he bottled his feelings. But he didn't let what happened die so easily. As expected, the morning came with an audience.
The king finally found his way to his son's quarters. He didn't come empty-handed; no, he walked behind maids that carried gold, silver, fruits, and freshly brewed wine, as if he were going to negotiate a new deal.
Idris was first to knock on the door. Cealan was quick to answer so as not to wake Rain.
"The king is coming," he announced. Cealan's face instantly darkened.
"Is he coming with Kebel?" Another question, and instantly, Idris understood words that hadn't been spoken. "No." One word, and Cealan chuckled bitterly.
