"Codes are transmitted to your device," Henry said from the operations center. "You have approximately twenty seconds from override activation to clear the door before the alarm triggers."
"Understood," Giancarlo said.
Henry moved to the basement door lock, entering the override codes.
The lock system beeped softly.
Red light turned to green.
The door unlocked.
Giancarlo pulled it open.
The basement corridor stretched ahead....concrete walls, industrial lighting, exactly as the thermal imaging had suggested. But the reality was darker, colder, more confining than any schematic could convey.
"Door open," Giancarlo said into his radio. "Moving into basement level two. Timer is active."
They moved down the corridor fast, but controlled. Not running, running created noise and reduced awareness. But moving with the kind of purposeful speed that suggested urgency without panic.
