History had been slowly rewritten, he realized, not by changing facts outright, but by changing belief, one careful reinterpretation at a time.
At the center of the archive rested a sealed silver document, its presence marked by an aura that made the surrounding air feel colder somehow. Its title alone caused Kael's pupils to contract sharply.

He reached toward it, drawn by an urgency he couldn't fully explain. The instant his fingers touched the seal, space folded around him without warning, and the document vanished from beneath his hand.
