Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Spirit Master Subsidy

Chapter 27: Spirit Master Subsidy

Nuoding City.

The carriage stopped near the gates of Nuoding City. Wang Zongchang leaned out of the cabin and looked at Lin Mo.

"Are you really not going back to the academy with me? You're going straight to Spirit Hall?"

"Yes." Lin Mo nodded. He jumped down from the carriage and said, "Since I've already obtained my first Spirit Ring and become an official Spirit Master, I might as well register my rank at Spirit Hall and collect the subsidy."

"Getting it done early saves me a special trip later."

Hearing that, Dean Wang Zongchang raised his hand and pointed in a direction.

"Fair enough. You know where Spirit Hall is, right? It's just east of the central square. The most conspicuous building there is it, you can't miss it."

"Thank you, Dean." Lin Mo nodded.

"Alright then, go ahead. Be careful on the road." Wang Zongchang reminded him once more, then signaled the driver.

The carriage rolled off toward Nuoding Academy.

Lin Mo stood where he was and watched until the carriage disappeared around a street corner. Only then did he turn and head toward Spirit Hall.

He had not been to Nuoding City many times, but he still remembered the main streets.

The central square was one of the busiest places in the city, and Spirit Hall stood right beside it, impossible to ignore.

After walking for a short while and crossing a few streets, an open square appeared before him.

On the east side of the square stood a magnificent domed building. Above the main entrance hung a massive badge.

The badge bore only a single sword, which meant the Spirit Hall in Nuoding City was the lowest level.

This is it.

Lin Mo's pace quickened slightly.

As he approached the grand gates, 2 guards holding spears immediately noticed him.

One stepped forward to block his path. "Little friend, this is Spirit Hall. Do you have business here?"

Lin Mo stopped and looked up. "Hello, uncles. I'm here for a Spirit Master rank evaluation."

"A rank evaluation?" Surprise flashed across the guard's face as he sized Lin Mo up. "Are you sure? At your age, you must have just had your Spirit Awakening not long ago, right?"

"Yes." Lin Mo nodded. He fumbled inside his clothes, then took out the Spirit Hall certificate he had kept carefully and offered it over.

"This is my Spirit Hall certificate. It was issued by Grandmaster Su Yuntao, who awakened my Martial Soul."

The guard took it, checked it carefully, then compared it to Lin Mo again. The surprise in his eyes grew even deeper.

"Emperor Village, Lin Mo, Martial Soul… egg? Innate Level 6 Spirit Power?"

He read it quietly, then looked up. "Alright. The certificate is real."

"Go on in. Turn left after you enter and find Grandmaster Ma Xiunuo in the reception hall. He handles these matters."

"Thank you, uncle." Lin Mo accepted the certificate back, tucked it away carefully, then entered Spirit Hall.

The main hall was quiet, with very few people around.

Before long, Lin Mo spotted a room with a sign that read "Reception Hall." He raised his hand and knocked. After hearing a response, he pushed the door open and went inside.

There was only 1 person in the room.

An elderly man, about 60 years old, wearing Spirit Hall attire. He sat behind a desk and was reading a document.

Hearing footsteps, he looked up. He pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose and smiled kindly.

"Little friend, can I help you?"

"Hello, are you Spirit Grandmaster Ma Xiunuo?" Lin Mo asked politely.

"Indeed, I am Ma Xiunuo." The old man nodded. "And you came for?"

"Hello, Grandmaster Ma Xiunuo. My name is Lin Mo, and I'm here for a Spirit Master rank evaluation."

As he spoke, Lin Mo took out his Spirit Hall certificate again and handed it over with both hands.

Ma Xiunuo accepted it, adjusted his glasses, and read carefully.

The content recorded by Su Yuntao surprised him slightly, but he remained calm.

However, when he lifted his head, and his gaze swept over Lin Mo, sensing the Spirit Power fluctuations Lin Mo was deliberately releasing, his expression changed completely.

Disbelief appeared on his face.

"You… your name is Lin Mo, right?" Ma Xiunuo's voice trembled slightly. He looked down at the date on the certificate again.

"Your Spirit Awakening, at most, it's only been about 9 months, hasn't it?"

"Yes, Grandmaster Ma Xiunuo." Lin Mo answered calmly.

"Nine months…" Ma Xiunuo inhaled deeply. "From Innate Level 6 Spirit Power, you cultivated to the Rank 10 bottleneck, and…"

He paused, his tone now full of shock.

"From your Spirit Power fluctuations, it's clear you already obtained your first Spirit Ring. You're already a Spirit Master?"

He could not help being stunned.

Innate Level 6 Spirit Power was not top tier on the continent, but in a small place like Nuoding City, it was already quite rare.

But compared to that, Ma Xiunuo was far more shocked by Lin Mo's cultivation speed.

In 9 months, Lin Mo had cultivated from Rank 6 to the Rank 10 bottleneck and successfully obtained his first Spirit Ring.

That speed was unheard of.

Especially since Su Yuntao's certificate listed his Martial Soul as a Waste Martial Soul, an egg of unknown use.

"Yes, Grandmaster Ma Xiunuo. I have indeed obtained my first Spirit Ring." Lin Mo answered firmly.

Ma Xiunuo took another deep breath and forced himself to calm down.

"Good. Good child. Truly, the younger generation is to be feared."

"Now, according to procedure, release your Martial Soul so I can confirm it."

"Alright." Lin Mo's mind shifted.

A flash of red light appeared.

Charmander, orange yellow with a bright flame burning on its tail, appeared by his feet.

At the same time, a bright yellow Spirit Ring rose slowly from beneath Charmander and rotated around its body, releasing the unmistakable fluctuations of a 100 year Spirit Ring.

"A 100 year Spirit Ring?!" Ma Xiunuo suddenly stood up from his chair, eyes wide as he stared at the yellow ring. His voice rose sharply from excitement.

He had originally thought it would already be impressive if Lin Mo obtained a decent 10 year Spirit Ring.

He never expected it to be a 100 year Spirit Ring, something quite rare.

But after the initial shock, Ma Xiunuo looked at the spirited Charmander by Lin Mo's feet, and confusion rose in his eyes.

He picked up the certificate again, then looked at Charmander, his gaze flicking back and forth between the paper and the Martial Soul.

His tone turned uncertain.

"Wait, child. This Martial Soul of yours… something's not right."

"Isn't what's registered on this certificate an egg?"

"Then what is this? And this 100 year Spirit Ring…"
