Chapter 148: Yufeng City
Lin Mo stayed in Spirit City for another three days.
During these three days, he stayed alone in the quiet room arranged for him by Spirit Hall, writing down the explanations he had previously told Bibi Dong in as much detail as possible.
This record was not entirely a hoax. There was naturally some feasibility to it.
However, whether this method would actually work if applied to Yu Xiaogang, Lin Mo was not quite sure.
After all, Yu Xiaogang's own situation was quite unique.
The claim that his Martial Soul, Luo San Pao, had undergone a malignant mutation was not entirely accurate. Or rather, it was not completely correct. It was not a thorough malignant mutation.
This could also be glimpsed from the Golden Triangle's Spirit Fusion Ability, the Summoning of the Golden Sacred Dragon.
Yu Xiaogang provided the host, Luo San Pao. Liu Erlong provided the dragon body. Flender provided the spirit power and the ability to fly.
In other words, theoretically, if Luo San Pao had been able to mutate completely back then, its final Martial Soul form should have been the Golden Sacred Dragon.
However, due to Yu Xiaogang's own talent, although his Martial Soul mutated, the mutation was incomplete.
Thus, it manifested as if it had malignantly mutated from a Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon into the pig-like Luo San Pao.
On the afternoon of the third day, Lin Mo finally finished recording all the details.
He checked it carefully once more. After ensuring there were no omissions, he neatly organized the papers and placed them on the table.
Just then, there was a knock on the room door.
Lin Mo stood up and opened the door, only to find Qian Renxue standing outside.
Today, she was not wearing her platinum dress. Instead, she had changed into simple, casual clothes. Her long golden hair fell loosely over her shoulders, making her look a little less aloof and a little more approachable.
"Is the record complete?" Qian Renxue looked at the thick stack of papers on the table inside the room.
"Yes." Lin Mo stepped aside to let her in.
Qian Renxue walked into the room, stopped by the table, and casually picked up the top sheet of paper to look at it.
After skimming through a few pages, she set them aside.
Qian Renxue looked down at Lin Mo, took out a dark gold medallion from her robes, and handed it to him.
The front of the medallion was engraved with Spirit Hall's emblem, while the back featured the pattern of an open scroll.
"This is a pass for Spirit Hall's Library Pavilion," Qian Renxue explained. "With this medallion, you can enter and leave Spirit Hall's Library Pavilion at will and read all the books inside."
Lin Mo took the medallion. It felt slightly cool to the touch.
"This is also a reward for providing this information," Qian Renxue continued. "Of course, it is for your personal use only."
Lin Mo nodded and put the medallion away.
"Thank you."
Qian Renxue looked at him, a trace of complex emotion flashing through her golden eyes, but she quickly regained her composure.
"When do you plan to leave Spirit City?" she asked.
"In the next day or two," Lin Mo replied. "The record is finished, and there's nothing else for me to do here."
Qian Renxue fell silent for a moment. In the end, she only nodded slightly.
"Very well."
She said nothing more and turned to leave the room.
The next morning.
After leaving Spirit City, Lin Mo and Dugu Bo did not return directly to Heaven Dou City.
At Lin Mo's suggestion, the two turned northeast, heading toward a city located on the border of the Heaven Dou Empire.
Their destination was a medium sized city called Yufeng City.
Spirit City, Douluo Hall.
Qian Renxue stood before a high window, gazing in the direction Lin Mo had departed outside the city, her eyes filled with complexity.
Dressed in a platinum-gold gown, with her golden hair loosely draped over her shoulders, her golden eyes held less of their usual sharpness and more of an indescribable emotion.
Beside her, Qian Daoliu walked over with slow steps.
This High Priest of Spirit Hall wore a simple white robe. His hair and beard were completely white, and his expression was gentle.
He walked to Qian Renxue's side and looked in the direction of her gaze, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
"If you care so much, why didn't you try to win him over earlier?"
"He stayed in Spirit City for so long, and you went to see him several times. If you wanted to win him over, weren't there plenty of opportunities?"
Qian Renxue did not look back, still gazing out the window.
Qian Daoliu continued, "Although I have not seen that young man with my own eyes, I can tell from your and Golden Crocodile's descriptions that he is quite resistant to joining Spirit Hall."
"Otherwise, he would not have repeatedly used various excuses to brush it off."
He paused. "If you had played along with Bibi Dong earlier, combined with your encounter in the Star Dou Great Forest, even if you had used your current true identity to recruit him into our Consecration Hall, it probably would have been quite easy."
Hearing her grandfather's words, Qian Renxue fell into silence.
The light from outside the window shone on her face, outlining her exquisite features even more clearly.
After a long time, she finally spoke slowly, her voice somewhat low.
"Grandfather, I don't know what identity I should use to win Lin Mo over now."
She turned her head to look at Qian Daoliu.
"Is it Qian Renxue, or Xue Qinghe?"
"I have had contact with him through both of these identities, and both have expressed the intention to recruit him. He accepted the olive branches extended by both identities, but he has never truly committed to anything."
Hearing this, Qian Daoliu fell into silence.
With his hands behind his back, he gazed out the window.
But Qian Renxue spoke again, asking the question that had been weighing heavily on her heart for a long time.
"Grandfather, has my lurking in the Heaven Dou Empire for so many years really been meaningful?"
Her voice was very soft.
"If it weren't for all these years of lurking, which wasted most of my energy, with my talent, I probably would have reached the Spirit Saint Realm long ago."
"For a normal Spirit Master, the most important dozen or so years of cultivation time..."
"I've wasted all of it on a mission of lurking whose necessity I still can't see."
She lowered her eyes, her voice growing softer and softer.
"Sometimes I wonder, if I hadn't gone to the Heaven Dou Empire back then and instead stayed in Spirit City to focus on cultivating, what would I be like now?"
Qian Daoliu fell silent once more.
He looked at his granddaughter, an extremely complex expression flashing through his slightly cloudy eyes.
Because of the despicable things his son, Qian Xunji, had done, out of a desire to make amends, he did not intend to interfere in Bibi Dong's affairs.
Moreover, due to Bibi Dong's talent and ability, he had even thought of letting her do as she pleased.
This was especially true when it came to the matters between the mother and daughter, Bibi Dong and Qian Renxue.
This was also the reason why he had not stopped Bibi Dong when she sent Qian Renxue to lurk in the Heaven Dou Empire.
Back then, he had simply felt that perhaps letting Qian Renxue leave Spirit City for a while and get out of Bibi Dong's sight would be good for both of them.
But looking at it now...
Qian Daoliu let out a long sigh.
After a long time, he finally spoke slowly, his voice deep.
"Is the reason you are having such doubts because of that boy named Lin Mo just now?"
