Chapter 44 - Soul Fighting, First Battle

"Great Soul Arena! Participate in live combat!"

Elder Ling was surprised when he heard this. But then he thought, Wang Li was already a great soul master and should indeed participate in more real battles among great soul masters.

He then spoke:

"That's fine. Participating in live battles between great soul masters will help your growth, but I must give you some warnings."

"You should participate in matches that are mainly for practice. Avoid life-and-death battles and wagered fights."

"Practice matches only determine who is stronger; the other two types determine both strength and survival. You are still young and don't understand. Those ruthless adults will use all sorts of cunning and cruel methods to try to kill an eight-year-old child like you…"

At this point, Elder Ling paused, even his voice faltering.

An eight-year-old great soul master,it was ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. But thinking that this was someone he had trained… well, though unbelievable, it was still reasonable.

Wang Li also intended to participate only in practice matches. As for life-and-death or wagered fights, he had never truly killed anyone and wasn't sure if he could steel his heart enough to strike a living opponent.

It shouldn't be too difficult, though. Just like hunting soul beasts, Wang Li decided to first watch a few life-and-death and wagered fights before trying one himself.

He then responded:

"I understand, Elder Ling."

Elder Ling regained his composure and added:

"When you go, wear your school uniform, and then you can safely register to compete."

Others might not have realized, but he did. In the Great Soul Arena, soul masters without backgrounds but with outstanding skills could easily be lured and controlled as tools to make money.

Behind the glittering exterior of the arena lay a deep darkness fueled by profit.

Wang Li thought for a moment and understood the meaning,it was a form of protection. Gratefully, he said:

"Understood, Elder Ling."

Elder Ling had said everything necessary and finally patted Wang Li on the shoulder:

"Go rest for now. You just returned from the perilous Soul Hunting Forest. A few days later, it won't be too late to go to the Great Soul Arena."

Wang Li nodded, formally said goodbye, and returned to the academy. The calm atmosphere allowed him to relax.

What he didn't know was that his safe return had already caused a stir in the academy.

Ten months ago, when he enrolled, he had defeated many senior students and became number one among the students. Ten months later, in just one semester, he had reached level twenty soul power and obtained soul rings to become a great soul master.

This legendary achievement shocked everyone and also inspired their own enthusiasm for cultivation.

Gorfa had once told him to be a good example. Now, he had truly fulfilled that expectation.

However, Wang Li himself wasn't overly concerned. Back at the academy, he settled in and cultivated seriously. After five days, he successfully broke through to level twenty-two.

After this, he went to the Great Soul Arena. He was curious and excited about this place, earning money, gaining experience, provided he could defeat his opponents.

Because he wore Lejia Academy's uniform, the registration staff politely warned him that this place wasn't suitable for a soul master.

Wang Li calmly said:

"My name is Wang Li, a student of Lejia Academy. Martial Soul: Mutated Blue Silver Grass. Soul power: level twenty-two. I know what I'm doing. Just register me!"

The staff, curious yet respectful, then helped him register. A soul master at level twenty-two before graduation was considered a genius.

They did not ask about his age or birthplace. After all, this was the Great Soul Arena, not the Martial Soul Hall. Those details were unnecessary.

After taking ten gold soul coins as the registration fee, they gave him a competitor ID and an iron soul fighting badge.

Muttering to himself, "Registration is expensive. I must earn back these ten gold soul coins today," he registered for a one-on-one soul fight.

Within ten minutes, he heard his name called at one of the fight arenas and headed there.

Passing through a passage, he arrived at the arena. His opponent and the referee were already in position. Wang Li had arrived slightly late due to unfamiliarity with the area.

As he stepped onto the stage, his young face and academy uniform instantly drew the crowd's surprise and enthusiasm.

The part-time referee and announcer excitedly introduced the two contestants:

"Friends, both competitors are in position. One is our old friend Ye Fei, Martial Soul: Colorful Cat, soul power level twenty-seven. He has already won two consecutive matches."

"The other is a newcomer to the Great Soul Arena, Wang Li, a gifted student from Lejia Academy, Martial Soul: Mutated Blue Silver Grass, soul power level twenty-two. Will it be the old friend's winning streak or the newcomer's upset? Let's watch. Competitors, release your Martial Souls!"

Ye Fei: "Martial Soul Possession!"

Wang Li: "Martial Soul Release!"

Ye Fei's eyes narrowed. Surrounded by one white and one yellow soul ring, he saw Wang Li had two yellow soul rings beside him. Shock and jealousy filled him.

Of medium height and lean build, Ye Fei's body exuded killing intent after activating his Martial Soul. As a level twenty-seven great soul master, he intended to teach Wang Li a lesson. Even if he couldn't strike fully, he would enjoy the fight.

"First soul skill: Swift Advance!"

"Second soul skill: Bloodthirsty Claws!"

Ye Fei surged forward like wind and lightning, his movements shadowy and fast.

Wang Li merely lifted an eyelid, analyzing Ye Fei's trajectory and predicted his capture point instantly.

"Blue Silver! Grow!"

The Blue Silver Grass surged violently, almost as if foreseeing the future. At a distance of three meters, it grabbed Ye Fei and entwined his legs.

Ye Fei looked at his restrained legs in disbelief. When he lifted his head, Wang Li's figure loomed large in his eyes. A side kick struck directly at his head.

Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!

The world spun. Ye Fei's body flew unconscious to the side, entangled further by the Blue Silver Grass.

As he landed and regained awareness, a large foot rapidly grew in his vision.

Bang!

Wang Li did not actually stomp on his head, but the distance was mere millimeters.

Looking at the referee, Wang Li said:

"If you don't announce the result, I'm afraid my next kick will crush his head!"

Only then did the referee/announcer seem to wake from a daze and shout:

"Winner: Wang Li!"

Wang Li lowered his eyelids and turned to leave:

"Too weak. Boring…" Fortunately, he gained sixty-six experience points.

Fighting for too long was pointless; there was no need to drag it out. The Lejia Academy transition story would soon conclude.
