Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: Lizard Serum

Upon returning to New York, Nick Fury quickly arranged for Steve Rogers to be admitted to the S.H.I.E.L.D. New York branch hospital.

They prepared the most advanced thawing equipment to awaken this hero from more than seventy years ago.

After that, Natasha had nothing more to do.

With her authority, borrowing Steve's shield for a short time was no problem.

Ren's replication of weapon characteristics was much faster than replicating genes. It took less than two hours to copy the Vibranium properties.

Black fluid enveloped Natasha's left arm, and a shield made of black fluid immediately appeared.

It was exactly the same size as Captain America's shield, except the U.S. flag pattern had been replaced with a white Black Widow spider emblem.

"You try it," Ren urged.

Natasha picked up a gun and fired three shots at the shield on her left arm without hesitation.

The bullets struck the shield and had their kinetic energy absorbed. The bullet heads flattened from the impact and dropped to the ground with a crisp sound.

"That's amazing," Natasha praised sincerely.

Not only superpowers, but even weapons could be replicated. This alien creature was too powerful.

"Now, you should know that my choice to symbiote with you is your..." Ren's words were cut off by Natasha before he could finish.

"Yes, I know. My honor, right?" Natasha asked, full of helplessness.

"Exactly," Ren nodded proudly.

"Okay, I get it. You don't need to repeat it again," Natasha said. She returned Captain America's shield to its original place. She still had a lot of things to do next.

Osborn Group.

Dr. Connors stood in front of the holographic projection, which displayed seven white mice.

The artificial intelligence's electronic voice sounded from the hologram. "Test subjects 1 to 7 are beginning to react. Tissues are starting to grow, and cells are rapidly dividing."

A look of ecstasy appeared on Dr. Connors' face. "It's starting. Peter's suggestion was right. This guy really is a genius."

After several minutes, the experiment continued normally.

Then the electronic voice sounded again. "Warning, test subjects 2 and 6 are showing symptoms of maladaptation. Organ tissues are showing signs of failure."

Dr. Connors' face turned serious. He began adjusting the equipment next to the instruments.

The white mice used in the experiment soon showed organ failure one after another. Some even died.

"Test subjects 3, 4, and 1 have died. Test subjects 2 and 6 are experiencing accelerated organ failure..."

Listening to the reports, Connors frowned and rubbed his head with his remaining left arm.

"Dr. Connors, it's almost lunchtime now. Do you need me to bring you food?" an assistant asked cautiously.

Connors sighed and said, "No, you all go out first. I want to be alone for a bit."

The assistants left the room, leaving Dr. Connors to ponder by himself.

"How many times have we tested it, and it's still the same result... The theory has proven Peter's idea is correct, so why does it still fail?" Dr. Connors sighed helplessly.

Just as Professor Connors was feeling disheartened, the electronic voice suddenly rang out. "Subject 7 is stable. Tissue is growing rapidly, body temperature and blood pressure are all normal."

Upon hearing this, Connors immediately got up and ran to the container holding white rat number 7.

He stared with wide eyes at the changes in the small white rat. Its severed leg was showing a slight tendency to grow.

A look of surprise appeared in Connors' eyes. Although the serums injected into the subjects were largely similar, there were slight differences.

Connors quickly checked the production data for Subject 7's serum and prepared to run more experiments.

In the subsequent tests, all the white rats survived, and their disabled limbs showed remarkably fast growth.

Seeing this, Connors was overjoyed. He even felt a surge of fanaticism after so many years of effort.

However, Connors quickly calmed down. He knew medical departments were extremely strict when reviewing regenerative biotechnology.

There was no guarantee that such unknown technology would not have powerful negative effects.

For now, they needed to record whether these white rats would show any abnormal reactions or side effects. Only then could it be used on humans.

This serum could only be considered half-successful at the moment. It still required many more experiments and time for improvement.

The next afternoon, inside the Osborn Group.

"I heard the experiment was successful," Tim, the CEO of the Osborn Group, pressed Dr. Connors in his office.

"Yes, both tested white rats are very healthy now. Peter is a genius. Without his theory, my experiment would not have progressed so quickly," Dr. Connors said with an excited expression while also giving credit to Peter Parker.

"Peter? Harry's friend? I see," Tim nodded. He had some impression of the friend Harry Osborn had brought along.

However, he was still not satisfied with Dr. Connors' progress. What he needed now was human data, not white rat data.

"I think we can start human trials now."

"What? No! Absolutely not!" Dr. Connors immediately denied it.

"We just succeeded in the white rat trials a short while ago! We haven't recorded the subsequent observation data yet, and we still don't know if it will be harmful to humans!"

He continued, "And even if there are no abnormalities or side effects in the white rats' observation records, we still need more experimental data to verify that this serum is harmless. Where are we going to find volunteers for trials now?"

Dr. Connors realized he had spoken too excitedly and quickly explained.

He did not want to rush into human trials, as this could easily lead to irreversible and terrible consequences. A slight mistake could ruin a person's life or even cause death, and that was not what he wanted.

"Volunteers? Just go to the disabled veterans' hospital," Tim said coldly. "Dr., you must understand that we are out of time! Norman Osborn's life is coming to an end!"

"No, you can't do that!" Dr. Connors slammed his hand on the table and shouted angrily.

"This serum hasn't been tested. It can't be used on humans at all. Conducting human trials without authorization is committing a crime!"

"No, they are volunteers. We are not forcing them," Tim replied indifferently.

"Dr., I think your current mindset is problematic and you are not suitable to continue the experiment. You can go back and take a vacation now. All expenses will be reimbursed by the Osborn Group."
