"Stanley!"
No response.
"Mr. Warden!"
Her voice echoed down the empty streets.
Cars were still scattered across the roads where people must have abandoned them in panic. Storefronts were shattered. Windows hung open like broken teeth. Papers fluttered across the pavement, carried by the restless wind. Dried blood left footprints everywhere, yet there were no bodies.
Jenna slowed down slightly, her breathing growing heavier.
Despite her shout, no monster came out.
"This doesn't make sense…"
If the apocalypse had already started, this place would have been crawling with monsters, or acid rain, or whatever.
Corpses should have littered the streets. Instead, it looked like all beings were sucked away.
Her chest tightened.
"System," she called again under her breath.
Still nothing.
Jenna gritted her teeth and pushed forward. She refused to believe she couldn't find anything to give her a clue of what had happened.
