All Daniel wanted was a safe passage. But who would have thought that he'd end up becoming a punching bag?
At first, he was just trying to push through the crowd. Elbows up, shoulders braced, forcing his way between bodies that refused to give space. But the more he moved, the more resistance he met.
Someone shoved him from the side. Another hand grabbed his shirt. Then a fist grazed his cheek.
"Watch it!"
"Don't push me!"
"Get back in line!"
The voices blurred into one another.
He tried to stay calm. Tried to keep moving forward. Tried to understand the plight of desperate people who cared for the health of their loved ones.
But the crowd took his kindness for granted.
A shoulder slammed into him, sending him stumbling into a shelf. Boxes rattled and fell, glass bottles shattering on impact and pills scattering across the floor.
