Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Awakening a Supernatural Ability?

"Hmm... That's weird. So dying isn't painful at all? Or have I successfully crossed over? Should I open my eyes and take a look?"

Mo Xin, who had tightly closed her eyes and silently awaited death, only felt increasingly impatient after waiting for so long. Yet, her heart pounded with fear, making her a bit afraid to open her eyes.

"Forget it. At worst, I'll be a beautiful girl again in eighteen years. Sister Mo Xi, in my next life, I want to be your older sister! And Sister Acheron, I hope in my next life I can have a figure like yours..."

After this string of mutterings, Mo Xin took a deep breath, as if shedding a heavy burden, and calmly opened her eyes. However, upon opening her eyes, she felt no different. The kitchen was still this unfamiliar kitchen.

"Huh? I'm still alive? Good, good. It seems I haven't lost any parts." Mo Xin carefully examined herself, confirming she wasn't injured, and breathed a sigh of relief.

But in the next instant, she remembered a crucial question. "Huh? Where's that wolf? It can't possibly be a vegetarian... Hey!!!"

Halfway through her sentence, her gaze had already fallen upon that white wolf. The expression on Mo Xin's face instantly became one of utter astonishment, as if she had seen something unbelievable. She gently rubbed her eyes, somewhat unable to believe what was before her.

The white wolf that had once cornered her, ferocious and menacing, now lay completely lifeless a few meters away. The white wolf was already dead. Its head had been split cleanly down the middle by a powerful force, brains mixed with blood scattered all over the ground, a shocking sight. Yet, this was not the reason for Mo Xin's surprise.

What truly shocked her was the "culprit" responsible for all this. The culprit that had effortlessly split the wolf's head was embedded in its thick neck—it was precisely the kitchen knife Mo Xin had casually thrown earlier.

"Holy cow! So 'no matter how skilled you are, you still fear a kitchen knife' is actually true! Could it be that I randomly hit the jackpot? The legendary dragon-slaying saber?" Mo Xin's mouth hung agape, a look of bewilderment on her face. Everything before her somewhat exceeded her comprehension.

"But caution is the parent of safety. To prevent it from playing dead and entering a second phase or something, I'd better give it a couple more stabs." As if thinking of something, Mo Xin glanced around. She casually picked up two "Heavenly Sword" knives from beside the stove, took aim, and threw them with force.

They seemed about to pierce the corpse's head. But Mo Xin was surprised to find that the two flying knives seemed to hit something hard and were directly deflected. This made her exclaim involuntarily.

"No way, is its flesh this tough? Or are these two knives just no good?"

However, for now, at least it confirmed the white wolf was probably truly dead. Mo Xin hesitated for a moment, frowned slightly, but did not turn and flee. She still decided to go up and investigate.

Having already witnessed the bloody scene earlier, although a wave of discomfort rose in her heart now, it was no longer as hard to accept as it was initially. But just as she lifted a foot to take a step, she suddenly stumbled. Then she proceeded to give the earth a direct kiss, falling in a rather pitiful manner.

"Ouch! That hurts!" Mo Xin painfully rubbed her forehead, her expression full of grievance. But when she tried to get up, she nearly fell again. This time she realized she was inexplicably feeling weak all over, causing her legs to feel somewhat wobbly for a moment.

This made her mutter to herself, "What's going on? I clearly had strength just now. Is it a physical reaction after relaxing?"

After several attempts, she finally regained a bit of mobility, but only enough to barely stand up. Fortunately, she found a broom in the kitchen that could serve as a makeshift crutch for support. Subsequently, Mo Xin hobbled over to the white wolf's corpse.

"Ugh... So disgusting..."

Viewing such a bloody scene up close, although Mo Xin's resolve was firm, the pungent, eye-catching smell of blood still churned her stomach. She tightly bit her lower lip, barely suppressing the urge to vomit. Enduring the surging nausea in her nasal passages, Mo Xin reached out and grabbed the handle of that MVP kitchen knife. Then, with a slight exertion, she pulled it out quite easily.

"This seems... nothing special either?"

She examined the kitchen knife carefully but couldn't find anything unusual about it. Her curious gaze shifted back and forth between the knife and the corpse. Immediately after, Mo Xin silently raised the hand holding the "dragon-slaying saber."

Clang! Clang!

A series of clanging metal collision sounds echoed continuously.

Crack!

Accompanied by a crisp sound, this MVP "dragon-slaying saber" successfully chipped a piece off. And not even a scratch was made on the white wolf's corpse.

Mo Xin (●—●):... Staring at the damaged kitchen knife in her hand, Mo Xin fell silent for a moment.

But she quickly rallied. "So it's not that this kitchen knife is powerful? Then what's going on?"

Mo Xin now had little mobility left. If she could figure out the reason, it might help her protect herself somewhat. So Mo Xin immediately closed her eyes, frowned, and pondered, not letting go of any detail from earlier.

"What exactly is the reason... It can't be Yunli's blessing, can it? Right, I think I was the one who threw the kitchen knife!"

Mo Xin: ✪ω✪

Saying this, Mo Xin's eyes suddenly widened. She examined her own hands with shining eyes. "Oh! Could it be that some hidden divine power has awakened within me!"

Indeed, this was currently the closest guess to the truth. And judging by the results, the power of her Supernatural Ability didn't seem weak! Thinking of this, the corners of Mo Xin's mouth naturally curled up slightly, the arc growing wider and wider. She finally couldn't hold back her laughter, a sound as cheerful and pleasant as a clear mountain spring...

"Hahaha! It seems my protagonist's halo has finally awakened! Let me see what my Supernatural Ability actually is!"

Having said that, Mo Xin eagerly followed the idea in her mind, extended one hand, and secretly stirred the primordial power within her body. And then... Well, nothing happened.

Mo Xin: (๑˙ー˙๑)

"Huh? Is the gesture wrong?"

Then, Mo Xin tried several more times, going through every pose she could think of. But the result remained the same: nothing happened. However, Mo Xin still vaguely felt there was some kind of energy within her body.

"That was careless. I must have indeed awakened a Supernatural Ability, but I think I forgot to ask Yunli how to use it!"

This outcome was simply even harder to accept. "Oh no! Having superpowers but not knowing how to use them is too painful!" Mo Xin painfully held her head in her hands, looking up and silently wailing.

After that, she probed and experimented repeatedly a few more times but still gained nothing. This doused Mo Xin's originally excited and elated mood like a bucket of cold water, instantly extinguishing the burning flame, replaced by a trace of disappointment and helplessness.

"Awakened a Supernatural Ability, but I myself don't know how to use it? That's just too tragic! Can't Supernatural Abilities be learned naturally, like peerless martial arts?"
