Together, they stepped through the massive iron gates built into the middle of the hill. The structure towered over them like the entrance to another world entirely. Dark flames burned from giant torches attached to the stone walls while armored guards stood on both sides with enormous weapons resting against their shoulders.
The moment Asher and Harlan stopped before the gate, several weapons were pointed directly at their faces.
"State your business," one of the armed men barked. "Step forward and let yourselves be seen."
Harlan immediately stepped ahead of Asher, allowing the guards a clear look at him while keeping his expression calm.
"We are merchants," Harlan explained smoothly. "Cocaine traders from the civilian territories. We don't operate with names."
The guards narrowed their eyes while looking him over from head to toe. Their suspicious gazes lingered longer than Harlan liked.
Finally, one of them spoke again.
