Chapter 14 - Starting Out with Mods

Early morning light filtered through the curtains like soft gold dusting the room.

On the large bed, three figures lay sleeping peacefully. The slumbering forms of two of them wrapped around the large body between them like vines around a large tree.

"Ughh."

The figure between them was beginning to stir with a groan. His half-lidded eyes blinking away the haze of sleep as he rubbed the sleep from them.

Nevaris let out a hearty yawn as his brain restarted. Pushing himself up, the silk covers pooled around his lower torso revealing the solid, sectioned muscles of his abs.

As he tried to move, he felt a soft weight on both of his arms. Looking down with bleary eyes, his mind was instantly jolted awake by the enticing view before him.

"W-What happened last night?" he whispered to himself in confusion.

To his left, Ana lay there sleeping soundly and peacefully. Her arms were clinging possessively to his, and even with the iron mask sitting uncomfortably on her face, her soft snores came out easy and light.

And to Nevaris' great relief, and slight regret, she was still clothed in the same coarse, long dress from the previous night that covered every inch of visible skin. The material looked visibly uncomfortable, and he couldn't help feeling a pang of guilt for not offering her something better to sleep in.

The other side of his body was a much more distressing sight. Both to his mind and his underwear.

"F-Fuck…"Nevaris swallowed a thick glob of saliva.

To his right was the sinful sight of Lilith. Her body, unapologetically nude save for a slim thong that clung to her intimate regions, fitted to his as if it belonged there, one leg draped over his, an arm looped possessively at his waist as she clung to him like an octopus.

She shifted in her sleep, pressing closer, and the motion sent a quiet shiver through him. Even asleep, she seemed to hold him there, wrapped in her presence, leaving him keenly aware of the absence of a barrier between their skin.

Her sleeping expression was…for lack of a better term, a masterpiece.

Her hair was wild–sticking out in every direction as if channeling a live current of static electricity. Her mouth opened as a literal waterfall of drool pooled beneath it into the damp lake on the sheets below.

Nevaris didn't know whether to laugh or cry at the situation he had awoken to.

'Is this gonna be the norm from now on?' he questioned internally.

Lilith stirred slightly, maybe due to a dream about ice cream (Author: definitely not about ice cream), but her tongue extended from her mouth, and dragged a wet path up his forearm. Leaving a moist kiss on his inner elbow that seemed to burn his skin.

'T-This fucking horny spider! What the hell is she dreaming about!?'

His mind wasn't the only part of his body with complaints about the current situation. Seeing the enraged spear trying to pierce a hole through the ceiling, Nevaris was able to deduct two things through the haze of his morning hangover.

First, he was still a virgin. The evidence?

The more than 8 inches of scorching hot, solid steel trying to tear through his pants right now.

Second, he wasn't in the room he had originally awakened in.

And with the reasonable, and worrying, gap in his memories from the previous night, he summed up his thoughts in the most articulate way pos-.

"We were abducted by aliens, weren't we?"

(Author: "...")

"There you are, you little bastard! Finally decided to stop playing dead eh?" Nevaris spoke in a low voice, his teeth gnashing together as if gnawing on the mental parasite in his mind.

There was a momentary pause before the voice returned, its tone just as monotone as Nevaris remembered.

<...I would like to remind the host that I had given a warning of my departure before hand.>

Nevaris, finally finding an outlet, continued his questioning, "Right, sure. Because, , really explains so much!"

"Not the point!!" Nevaris hissed. "That was supposed to be the chapter where you explain everything that was happening to me! Like how the fuck I was still alive after being sucked into a black hole, who the fucker who kept calling himself my genie was, and why my personality went from mildly sociopathic to full blown psycho!

I mean, I DEVOURED a guy! Like soul, existence, and all! Is that even allowed? Is that even possible!?"

By the end of his tirade, Nevaris was breathing heavily.

The room fell into a strange silence as Nevaris assumed the system bastard scampered off again.

Nevaris' brow twitched. 'That's what you took from all of that?'

<'THAT', is an important distinction that must and WILL be corrected every time until the host understands.>

'Bitch has a temper now huh?' he scoffed internally.

"..."

The sys–the "voice" in his mind was clearly the petty type. Nevaris made sure to make a strong note of that.

Nevaris sat up a little straighter as he kept his mental ears wide open.

Nevaris nodded. Makes sense, he figured as much.

"...eh?"

"Matte, matte-"

"..."

Nevaris rested his head in his palms with a groan. The information overload and the lack of helpful answers caused his temples to throb.

"So, I'm part dragon…part serpent god of unknown origin?"

"So, my body was so weak because the fuel it was using was too strong?"

<...An interesting analogy, but yes. Divine blood is not meant to flow through mortal bodies without proper sealing. The strength and demand that divine blood requires of the body is simply too much for a mortal without safeguards in place.>

Nevaris was stunned.

So it turns out the pathetic idiot he devoured wasn't "technically" weak. He just didn't have the resources or foreknowledge to prevent the negative side-effects from impacting him.

"Haaa, son of a bitch…" he said in a tone of resignation.

At those words, Nevaris' pupils turned into slits. But careful not to wake the still sleeping girls beside him, he contained his emotions.

"Could he have put the seals I needed on my body?" he asked.

The voice, knowing what he really meant, responded slowly. <...Yes. Typically it is the parent of divine origin that places the seal on the fetus.>

Nevaris didn't respond. His gaze drifted outside to the sun that had begun to crest fully over the horizon. The voice didn't interrupt, showing a rare moment of consideration.

After an unknown amount of time, the sensation of something tightening around his arm, snapped Nevaris out of his thoughts. Looking down, his face broke out into a small smile as he saw Ana tighten her grip on his arms.

The feeling…wasn't too bad.

"So is my lineage the reason for my crazy stats?"

The voice paused audibly. Instead of answering his question, it asked its own.

Nevaris chuckled. "Who the genie? Nah, something tells me you aren't going to tell me anything."

A little surprised, Nevaris immediately asked, "Then who is he?"

"..."

Unamused Nevaris was about to move on but stopped when a thought came to him.

"You can't tell me who that was right? But you can tell me if you know of them right?"

<...that is true.>

His eyes lit up in excitement, "Then-"

"God dammnit!" Nevaris yelled in exasperation, taking a deep breath to calm himself he asked one more question, "Can you at least tell me if my choice to take his metaphorical handout was the right one?"

<...>

This time the voice stayed silent for longer. Nevaris didn't rush it, patiently waiting for whatever answer it gave.

<...I…do not know, host. Only you would know the answer for that. And that answer too, will only become known in the future. All I can say is whether the results will be good or bad, lay solely with you.>

Well, that was about as good of an answer he was going to get. With a nod, Nevaris stopped pestering the voice about the entity and returned to the earlier question.

Nevaris raised his brow. "Explain."

The voice continued.

He nodded.

Nevaris blinked in confusion, about to ask what that meant before a memory surfaced. A memory both his own and also not.

A memory of old Nevaris as a child, learning about Elysium and its races and the differences between them. Child Nevaris never cared much about learning, only really worrying about the beating he was going to inevitably receive afterwards.

But some things stuck. A universal law of reality set in place by the Absolute himself. A law to maintain the balance between humanity and nonhumans.

Nonhumans were born superior. They were stronger, bigger, and grew faster than the newly born human race. As they level up, they evolve. Every 25 levels, always. That is the rule.

And every evolution resulted in an explosive growth in strength. While humans, weak and inferior, had no such conditions. No way to grow as fast or explosively.

So they were given a path just for them. Something to help them contend with the monsters and gods around them. Something only they, as humans, were privy to.

Classes.

Nevaris' face was changing color like a chameleon as the memory of his own interface appeared in his mind.

[Name: Nevaris Aurelion]

[Race: Apocalypse Imoogi]

[Class: Martial God]

[Evolution Path: Hidden]

"...holy…shit…"

That's right, your boy wasn't just broken. He was also installed with reality breaking mods.
