Chapter 15 - Chapter 15

Sid didn't open the black envelope immediately.

He placed it on his desk.

Stared at it.

Waited.

Because people who rush… lose.

Minutes passed.

Then he slid a blade across the seal.

Inside—

Coordinates.

A time.

And a single line:

"Come alone."

Sid exhaled slowly.

Predictable.

And yet… not simple.

Analysis Mode

Laptop open.

Screens lit the dark room.

Network traces. School servers. External pings.

Sid followed the threads like a hunter tracking something invisible.

The smear campaign wasn't random anymore.

It had structure.

Layers.

Someone wasn't just attacking his reputation—

They were guiding him.

Leading him somewhere.

He leaned back.

"They want me there," he muttered.

Which meant one thing.

It was a trap.

The real question wasn't if.

It was why now.

Su Knows Something's Off

A knock.

Soft.

Careful.

"Sid…"

He didn't respond immediately.

Then:

"Come in."

Su stepped inside, her eyes scanning the room.

The screens.

The tension.

Him.

"You found something," she said.

Not a question.

Sid nodded.

"They're escalating."

Her expression tightened.

"What does that mean?"

He looked at her.

For a moment… longer than usual.

"It means they're done hiding."

She swallowed.

"And the envelope?"

Sid didn't answer right away.

Which was answer enough.

Her voice dropped.

"You're going, aren't you?"

"Yes."

"No."

The word came out sharper than she expected.

They both paused.

"I'm not letting you walk into something like this alone," she said.

"You don't have a choice."

Her eyes flashed.

"I do."

Sid stood.

Stepped closer.

Now they were too close.

"You don't understand what this is," he said quietly.

"Then explain it to me," she shot back.

He didn't.

Because explaining meant involving her.

And involving her meant risk.

And risk—

He wasn't willing to calculate that variable yet.

The Shift

Silence stretched.

Heavy.

Uncomfortable.

Real.

Su looked away first.

"…They're doing this because of me."

Sid didn't deny it.

Didn't soften it.

"Partly."

Her hands clenched.

"I never asked for this."

"I know."

"Then why does it feel like everything keeps getting worse the closer I get to you?"

There it was.

The thing neither of them wanted to say.

Sid's voice dropped.

"Because it is."

That should've pushed her away.

It didn't.

Instead—

She stepped closer.

Closer than before.

"Then maybe I don't care," she said quietly.

Sid froze.

That… wasn't logical.

Wasn't safe.

Wasn't smart.

Which made it dangerous.

Preparation

Night fell.

Sid moved like clockwork.

Phone wiped.

Backup routes mapped.

Entry points analyzed.

He wasn't walking into a trap blindly.

He was walking in ready.

Still—

Something bothered him.

The timing.

The coordination.

The precision.

This wasn't just intimidation anymore.

It was orchestration.

"Lee's son…" Sid muttered.

This had his signature all over it.

Calculated pressure.

Psychological leverage.

And now—

A direct confrontation.

The Call

Unknown number.

Sid answered.

Silence.

Then—

"You're adapting faster than expected."

Sid's eyes narrowed.

"Should I be flattered?"

A quiet chuckle.

"You should be careful."

"Careful people don't win."

"Neither do reckless ones."

Sid leaned back.

"So which am I?"

A pause.

Then:

"That depends on what you choose tomorrow."

Click.

The line went dead.

Sid stared at the screen.

Not anger.

Not fear.

Just—

Focus.

The Line He Won't Cross

He opened the secure folder again.

Documents.

Evidence.

Enough to destroy Lee's empire overnight.

Financial crimes.

Illegal operations.

Everything.

One move.

Game over.

His hand hovered.

Then stopped.

Because this wasn't just about winning anymore.

It was about timing.

And collateral damage.

His eyes shifted—

To the door.

To where Su had stood earlier.

"…Not yet."

Before the Storm

Late night.

Another knock.

This time—

He didn't tell her to come in.

She did anyway.

Su walked in quietly.

No words.

No questions.

Just presence.

She sat beside him.

Close.

Not touching.

But close enough to matter.

Minutes passed.

Neither spoke.

For once—

No strategy.

No lies.

No roles.

Just two people stuck in something way bigger than them.

Her hand moved slightly.

Brushed his.

Sid didn't pull away.

Didn't overthink it.

Didn't calculate it.

And that scared him more than anything else so far.

Final Realization

Midnight.

Coordinates rechecked.

Routes memorized.

Outcomes predicted.

Sid closed his laptop.

"They want a confrontation," he said quietly.

Su looked at him.

"And you're going to give it to them."

"Yes."

Her voice dropped.

"Then promise me something."

Sid didn't like promises.

They limit options.

Still—

"…What?"

She met his eyes.

"Come back."

Simple.

Unreasonable.

Dangerous.

Sid held her gaze.

Then—

"…I'll try."

Not a promise.

But the closest thing he could give.

And somehow—

That was enough for her.

End Note

Outside—

The wind picked up.

Clouds gathered.

Pressure built.

Somewhere far ahead—

An abandoned place waited.

And inside it—

A move designed to break him.

Sid stood by the window.

Eyes sharp.

Mind ready.

Because tomorrow—

The game wouldn't be quiet anymore.

It would be violent.
