Noon sunlight filtered lazily through the torn fabric they had hung between trees for shade. The island was quiet, wind brushing through broken branches and shattered stone that marked months of brutal training.
Ren and Shakky were still asleep.
Arms and legs were wrapped around each other, tangled without care. His fox tail rested protectively over her waist, and her fingers were curled loosely against his chest as if even in sleep she refused to let go.
They had gone wild the previous night and into the early morning. The camp around them was a mess now—blankets thrown aside,, their clothes scattered across the clearing.
Ren woke first.
His eyes opened calmly, golden irises adjusting to the daylight. His body felt light, powerful, perfectly balanced. There was no soreness, no lingering fatigue.
He was already at his peak.
Shakky was still asleep in his arms, breathing slow and steady. Strands of her hair rested across his shoulder, and her expression was softer than he usually saw when she was awake and teasing him.
Ren looked at her face fondly.
Then he noticed it.
A faint crescent-shaped mark rested upon her forehead, subtle but unmistakable. It shimmered softly, almost invisible unless one focused.
His mouth twitched.
"…Hmm. Does the Eclipse Kitsune have this kind of ability?"
Carefully, so as not to wake her, he brushed his thumb near the mark. It didn't fade. Instead, it pulsed faintly in response.
His mind began racing.
"So I have the sun mark… and my partner gets a moon."
His own mark—hidden beneath his hairline—warmed slightly.
"And our feelings make us stronger?"
He froze.
A memory surfaced in his thoughts.
"Damn… didn't Oda reveal the strongest power in the One Piece world?" he thought to himself. "Everyone thought it was some ancient weapon or Loki… but it was the power of love."
His eyebrows twitched.
"Is my Kitsune Devil Fruit using that? Enhancing growth beyond natural limits?"
The sunlight brightened slightly as clouds shifted overhead.
Both marks glowed faintly.
Ren's eyes widened.
"Damn. It's really true."
Excitement surged through him, but he forced himself to remain still so he wouldn't wake her abruptly. His heartbeat quickened with realization.
Shakky was already strong.
If he had to rank her, she stood near someone like Momousagi Gion—an Admiral candidate. Impressive. Rare.
But not enough for what he intended to face.
His thoughts paused.
He closed his eyes, suppressing a laugh that threatened to escape aloud.
"Fucking gooo… here's my answer."
He bit the inside of his cheek to avoid making a sound.
"Author really didn't disappoint me."
The marks pulsed again, warm and steady.
"This doesn't just boost our growth beyond talent caps… it keeps our bodies at their peak."
His grin widened.
"Lifespan like giants."
The realization struck him fully.
"Now I won't have to worry about time," he thought. "About not being there for Yamato… for Hancock… for Shirahoshi…"
He nearly laughed again.
"Love you, author. You're the best."
Shakky shifted slightly in his arms.
In his happiness, without thinking too much, he leaned down and kissed her lips softly.
Her eyes fluttered open.
"…Morning," she murmured lazily.
She blinked up at him, then smirked faintly.
"Monster… even after going all night and morning, you still want the next round?"
Ren flicked her nose gently.
"Hey. Don't say that."
She raised an eyebrow.
"Oh? Why not?"
He lowered his forehead to rest against hers.
"Because now you're mine."
Her teasing expression softened.
Shakky closed her eyes briefly and hugged him back.
There was warmth there—real and steady.
"So," Ren asked, brushing a light kiss across her cheek, "how do you feel? Any difference?"
She rolled her eyes, pretending to think deeply.
"This bastard only ever focused on training," she thought to herself. "Now suddenly he's all lovey-dovey."
Aloud, she answered, "Hmm… I feel refreshed."
He tilted his head.
"Just refreshed?"
"Completely fine," she corrected. "No exhaustion. Not even after our wild… activities."
Ren's grin widened.
"Well, I think it's one of my Devil Fruit's abilities."
She narrowed her eyes slightly.
"Explain."
"You remember I had a sun mark since I ate the fruit," he said calmly. "Now you have a moon mark. I think it gives regeneration and a growth boost."
Shakky touched her forehead instinctively.
"Well," she said slowly, "your Devil Fruit really is something."
He chuckled lightly.
"It is."
She began counting on her fingers.
"Three beast transformations. Fox fire and fox ice. Telekinesis. Weather manipulation. Size manipulation. Flame clouds. Illusions. Now sun and moon marks."
She looked at him flatly.
"That's completely broken. And I'm pretty sure you still haven't discovered everything."
Ren shrugged.
"Well, who cares?"
She blinked.
"That's your answer?"
"I'd rather cheat than grind for years," he said simply. "And still not be able to protect what I want to protect."
His gaze grew serious.
She felt the shift immediately.
He looked directly into her eyes.
"I don't want to be late."
She held his stare.
Then he leaned in and kissed her again—deeper this time, but still restrained.
"So," he murmured against her lips, voice teasing now, "you've got to help me grow stronger."
Her eyebrow twitched.
"Round two?"
"You shameless guy," she replied, rolling her eyes. "And here I thought you were being serious."
"I am serious."
"That's what worries me."
But she didn't pull away.
Time passed.
Noon shifted toward evening. Evening faded into night. Night returned to dawn.
When Ren finally woke again, sunlight creeping across the clearing, Shakky lay sprawled beside him, utterly drained.
She groaned softly when he moved.
"You're impossible," she muttered without opening her eyes.
Ren stretched casually.
"I feel great."
"Of course you do."
He stood, testing his muscles. His physique had grown denser over the past months, broader through the shoulders, lean but powerful.
She cracked one eye open.
"You're getting bigger."
He smirked.
"That's the training."
She snorted weakly.
"Sure it is."
He laughed.
"We missed a day of food."
She waved a hand dismissively.
"Go hunt something."
Ren nodded and stepped toward the shoreline.
Minutes later, the ocean surface erupted.
A Sea King roared as it was dragged violently upward by invisible force. Ren's telekinesis held the massive creature suspended, its body thrashing helplessly.
"Calm down," Ren muttered.
Fox fire ignited along his hands—controlled and concentrated. The Sea King fell silent quickly.
He returned to camp carrying more meat than they could reasonably finish.
Using telekinesis to handle the heavy cuts and fox fire to cook evenly, he worked efficiently. The aroma of roasted Sea King filled the clearing within minutes.
Shakky emerged from the tent area, legs still slightly shaky.
She shot him a glare.
He blew her a flying kiss.
She rolled her eyes.
"You're insufferable."
"And you're smiling."
She didn't deny it.
They ate quietly at first.
Then she spoke.
"I can feel it," she admitted.
He looked up.
"My strength."
He nodded.
"It broke your ceiling."
"Yes."
Her voice carried a note of awe.
"It's moving again."
Ren smiled slightly.
"Good."
After eating, he shifted into Solar Kitsune form.
Golden fur shimmered as sunlight bathed him. Heat radiated outward gently.
He resumed training immediately—punches cracking the air, kicks splitting boulders.
Shakky watched for a moment before standing.
"I'm not falling behind."
She joined. Doing her own routine.
Weeks turned into months.
Their lives settled into a new rhythm.
Morning: eat and train.
Noon: private "training" in the tent, followed by laughter and occasional arguments.
Night: Ren training in Lunar Kitsune form, senses sharpened beneath silver light.
Dawn: sometimes another round before breakfast.
Every time Shakky muttered "monster," her legs were shaky the next morning.
Ren only grinned.
Under the sun and moon, they grew stronger.
Not just in body.
But in bond.
And somewhere deep within the New World, something ancient stirred—as if sensing the rise of a storm yet to be named.
