Florate was honestly out of words. He did not know what else to say to Lilith right now; he did not know the right words to use or the correct things to say to her to make her feel better, so he just chose to leave her to herself for now. He just thought it would be best if she calmed herself down on her own to start, then later he would come around to be with her and probably, Rain would come with him as well. So, he needed an excuse to leave her right now and he could not think of any other reasonable excuse than Rain.
"Thank you so much, Florate," she pecked his cheek. "I am really happy to have someone like you." She tried so hard to smile but her heart was too heavy and her face had soaked so many tears that her cheeks found it difficult to curve into a smile.
Florate, however, noticed this and felt really pained. He really wished he could do more to help but unfortunately, he could not. "It is fine, Lilith," he started calmly. "It is okay. We love each other and look out for each other, that is not a big deal." He stood from the bed. "I will come see you later and please do not cry anymore, okay?"
She nodded. "See you later, Florate." She smiled sweetly at him; this time the smile's journey to her face was not as hard as earlier. He also noticed this as well and did well to return the smile before turning to leave.
Immediately, he turned to the door and saw someone there, peeking through the glass part of the door at the top, but the movement was so fast that the person just disappeared as soon as he or she was seen and the next thing they heard was a loud thud of someone falling to the floor, followed by a loud wail of pain.
The voice sounded very familiar to both Florate and Lilith as they exchanged glances. They gave it a quick thought and immediately realized who it was — Rain.
"Rain!?" they both exclaimed.
He rushed outside immediately while she jumped from her bed almost at the same time too. He swung the door open to find Rain lying on the floor there. She had fallen from her wheelchair and the pain was just too unbearable, making her wail and cry in pain obviously hurt.
"Rain?!"
He looked very shocked to see her. How did she get here in the first place? Was she even well enough to leave her bed, let alone her ward? Why was she even here? Where were the nurses? Why was no one with her to prevent her from hurting herself?!
*Minutes ago*
"Of course." He kissed her forehead before attempting to leave but she stopped him halfway by just saying his name again.
"Florate?" He turned to meet her again with his brows raised.
"Could you help me tell Lilith to come see me? I really want to see her." She pouted her lips.
"I will." He smiled slightly, not knowing what else to add to calm her a bit. "Lilith will soon be here; she just had some things to take care of first with the sensei. But I will tell her to come as soon as possible."
"OK." She nodded.
Rain watched his back as he took his gentle steps out of the room. She looked at him with so much affection as she recalled the minutes they had together earlier and a blush stained her face. She knew very well he loved her and she felt very lucky to be his girlfriend.
"Whew," she sighed. She adjusted the pillow under her head to feel better as she tried to get some rest at least. She stayed like that for quite some time before she heard a soft knock on her door.
"Come in," her voice was soft and dragged but the person behind the door heard it though.
The door creaked and someone very unexpected came in.
"Nexine?" Rain's nerves tensed. "What do you want?" she asked him with all the strength she could muster to make her voice sound harsh.
"I just came to see how you were doing, Rain." He came closer and made himself comfortable on the chair beside her bed. "How are you?" he asked with concern.
"Very fine, thank you," she said bluntly. "Now if you would please excuse me, I would like to get some rest," she said, obviously asking him to leave.
"You do not have to keep pretending to be tough around me, Rain love," Nexine said sweetly, walking towards her with a calm smile and stretching forth his hand to feel her chin skin but she flinched, making him withdraw his attempt.
"Go away, Nexine." Rain maintained her austere tone, expecting him to give up already but rather, the next thing he said really drew her attention and all of a sudden she did not want him to go anymore.
"Really, Rain? I mean, I only came here to keep you company since Florate is with Lilith at the moment."
"What is that supposed to mean?" She furrowed.
"Answer me, Nexine! What do you mean by that? Florate is not with Lilith; he went to see the junior girl he brought here because she had an injury and needed help so he offered it. Just go away, Nexine. I am definitely not in the mood for your lies," she hissed and turned away.
"He said that?" he spoke again, this time with a sting of pity in his voice. "Oh poor Rain. That was a lie. Florate and Lilith are in this same clinic, making out in one of the rooms." Now this got her attention big time.
"What did you just say?"
"I said Lilith and Florate are together right now and with what I can see right now, he doesn't want you to know about it. Now, what does that tell you?" he smiled mischievously, leaving poor Rain in deep thoughts.
"They are in room 34, down the hallway. Give it a quick thought and head there immediately if you don't want to miss the show." He stood from where he sat, the chair just beside her bed, and quietly left the room with a wide grin stapled on his face.
Rain fell into an ocean of thoughts. Was she really going to believe this untrustworthy fellow or was she going to confirm things for herself? No, she wasn't. She trusted Florate and believed he would never do such a thing. But Nexine certainly had no reason to make this up. No, she had to find out things for herself.
Without wasting more time, she came out of the sheets, stood up immediately. She felt so much pain immediately she stood up and believed she couldn't walk with such heavy pain. She looked around her for other options and found the wheelchair the nurse had left with her earlier in case she had any use for it — well, now she did. She struggled in pain to bring herself close to the wheelchair and made herself comfortable on it before finally leaving the room.
She moved herself around by turning the wheels of the chair as she made her way to the so-called room and found it at last. She looked at the door for some time before drawing closer to open it but then she heard something very unexpected.
"... because I love you and want the best for you..."
Was that Florate's voice she just heard? Why would he be confessing love to the junior girl or was it Lilith? She was totally confused. She tried to stand up again; she wanted to see who it was that Florate was speaking to before drawing any conclusions.
She endured the pain and stood up to peek from the glass part of the door which she could only get to see if she stood up. She looked inside to meet the most heartbreaking sight ever. Florate was wiping Lilith's face and cupping her face, looking at her affectionately.
'Oh no! Was this really true? Was Florate really cheating on her with Lilith? Was Nexine really right?' These questions flooded her head and she felt really hurt but what really got to her was when she saw Lilith kiss Florate's cheeks.
'How dare she?' So they were never friends, they both played her for a fool. Tears began to fall down her cheeks as she looked at them and got a bit carried away that she didn't know when Florate stood to leave but she tried to avoid him seeing her as she swiftly tried to sit on the wheelchair but it slipped away and she fell to the floor, causing her to wail in pain.
Not only physical pain but also emotional pain too. She was really hurt now and was only sure of one thing: Florate and Lilith never cared about her...
