Chapter 7 - Chapter Seven

"Can you recognize the woman if you see her again?"

"Yes, I believe so."

"Good. I'll contact the security department and have them pull up the CCTV footage from the last sixty-eight minutes. What do you think?"

"Yes, of course. That's a brilliant idea," Josh agreed softly.

The ordeal had drained him so much that even speaking felt exhausting. He could already imagine how furious Alvin would be once he discovered what had happened.

With one phone call, Connard contacted the security department and instructed them to retrieve the relevant CCTV footage.

Moments later, the footage began playing on the monitor.

Josh and Connard watched intently.

Then, suddenly, Connard leaned closer to the screen.

There she was.

The same woman Josh had described.

But something about the footage immediately caught Connard's attention.

The woman appeared to be watching Josh closely before deliberately bumping into him.

Connard's eyes widened.

"Hold on a second!"

He pointed toward the screen.

"Is that the woman who bumped into you?"

Josh stared at the footage.

His heart sank.

It was her.

And suddenly, what had seemed like an unfortunate accident began to look like something much more deliberate.

"Yes, she's the one. We need to find her. This footage is enough evidence to prove that she had an ulterior motive. How do we find her?" Josh asked anxiously. A small glimmer of hope sparked within him. Perhaps this strange woman was the answer to their problem.

"I'll ask the security guards to bring her to my office immediately. She's been our longest-serving janitor. It's hard to believe she could be capable of something like this," Connard admitted.

He quickly made a few calls, instructing the security department to locate the woman and bring her to his office.

But to his surprise, she was nowhere to be found.

After making several inquiries, they learned that someone had seen her leaving the bank after she reportedly called in sick.

Connard's expression darkened.

Everything was beginning to make sense.

It was strange that a woman who had shown no signs of illness would suddenly claim to be sick and leave the bank immediately after the incident.

"Doesn't this tell you something?" Connard said, his suspicion growing. "She's gone home after stealing the check. Of course, no one would be foolish enough to keep mopping dirty floors after stealing a one-million-dollar check."

He immediately picked up his phone.

"She's our prime suspect now. I'm calling the police."

Within minutes, the police arrived at his office.

"We have a case of theft, and the prime suspect is currently on the run," Connard explained after showing them the CCTV footage. "I know where she lives. We need to get there before she disappears without a trace."

Without hesitation, the officers followed Connard and Josh as they rushed to the janitor's apartment.

But unfortunately, when they arrived, she was nowhere to be found.

"Shit! What do we do now?" Josh roared, punching the wall in frustration.

"I'm confused," Connard muttered, staring helplessly at the empty apartment.

"Hold on a second."

Josh suddenly raised his hand as a thought flashed through his mind.

He turned toward Connard.

"How many branches of Ozone Bank do we have in the city?" Josh asked.

"Can't you see the handwriting on the wall? It's obvious that she's on her way back to the bank to cash the check. You just said it yourself—Ozone Bank has only one branch in the city," Josh insisted.
