Chapter 152 - The Grave of Siegfried

Mobius calmed her emotions, checking the report data while adjusting the culture medium parameters.

"Recombinant factor 3.9f: 2.5µg/L, artificial blood 310,000cc, bio-adaptation fluid 3699L, nano-tissue binding agent..."

Mobius casually tossed the report back onto the table. After leisurely signaling that she had finished adjusting the parameters,

Dr. Mei activated the indicator light and skillfully controlled two mechanical arms, carefully attaching Siegfried's head... back onto his body.

The moment Siegfried's HoMu head made contact with his body, a miraculous scene unfolded. Dense white buds of flesh burst forth from both ends of his severed neck in an instant, transforming into syrup-like strands that tightly fused his HoMu head to his torso.

"It's different from the way Shesha revived," Mobius muttered to herself as she watched the scene.

As the body fused, Siegfried's heart began beating powerfully once more. The heavy thudding was so loud that even through the treatment tank and the isolation glass of Laboratory No. 3, Dr. Mei and Dr. Mobius could hear it clearly.

Watching the fluctuating waveform on the screen, Dr. Mobius applauded, a delighted smile spreading across her face. "Dr. Mei, it seems our little white mouse is finally about to awaken from his long hibernation."

Siegfried gradually regained consciousness. He lifted his head, opened his crimson eyes, and looked around blankly, trying to comprehend the situation before him.

Kevin watched him with visible tension. From Siegfried's body, Kevin could sense immense pressure.

The feeling was just like when he had faced the Judgment-class Honkai Beast Shesha.

Mobius possessed a serpent-like sensitivity as well. "Klein, inject him with Mecatin sedative."

"He's already been injected with 500ml of Mecatin, Doctor," Klein replied anxiously.

1ml of Mecatin was enough to knock out an adult elephant, and 500ml was already the upper dosage limit. It was not that Mobius' laboratory lacked anesthetic. Rather, it meant only one thing—the sedative no longer worked on Siegfried. No matter how much more they administered, it would have no effect.

In the past, just 0.5ml of Mecatin had been enough to put Siegfried to sleep for an entire day. Now that the anesthetic was ineffective, it could only mean one thing—

Not only did he no longer possess a human pan-genetic sequence, he no longer even retained carbon-based cells. In other words, he had completely shed his human body and transformed into a primordial silicon-based Honkai Beast.

As for human reason...

"HoMu!" Like a ferocious dragon, HoMu-headed Siegfried shattered the medical liquid oxygen chamber confining him and began destroying everything around him.

"It seems that's gone as well..." Dr. Mobius shook her head, speaking in a tone of unsurprised certainty. "I told him to tame the Honkai Beast genes before going out. This outcome is something the little white mouse brought upon himself."

Mei's hand rested on the button that controlled the laboratory doors. "Kevin, I'll leave him to you."

Rumble—

The heavy iron doors of Laboratory No. 3 slowly opened, and an overwhelming aura of a Honkai Beast poured out from within.

"Heh, just leave it to me. I'll make him quiet down in no time!"

Kevin rolled his shoulder, gripping his baseball bat, and strode confidently into Laboratory No. 3.

Kevin did not know Siegfried, nor had Ato ever mentioned him, so he simply wanted to put on a good performance in front of Dr. Mei.

Seeing Kevin so confident, Dr. Mobius gave him a solemn reminder before he entered Laboratory No. 3. "Even if you kill it... that's fine. It's no longer human."

After all, the dangerous aura emanating from that little white mouse was already nearly comparable to that of the Judgment-class Honkai Beast. Its strength might be somewhat inferior, but it was no longer something mere human flesh could handle.

"Don't worry." Dr. Mei's gentle gaze fixed on Kevin's upright back as she responded to Mobius with equal confidence. "Kevin is very strong."

"Hah—I wasn't worried about your little lackey's safety!"

Catching the faint scent of romance in the air, Mobius felt her teeth ache.

...

Located in the northeastern part of Paris' urban district, Highgate Cemetery was a quiet sanctuary brimming with life.

Within Highgate Cemetery, the gravestones came in countless styles—from classical Baroque designs to modern minimalism, from delicate relief carvings to grand, temple-like structures. It was as if they narrated the colorful lives of the departed.

Sunlight filtered through dense, forest-like foliage, scattering golden patches of light among the staggered gravestones and monuments. The air carried the fragrance of flowers and the fresh scent of grass.

Inside the cemetery, winding paths were lined with blooming flowers. The environment was so serene and beautiful that one could forget the troubles of the mortal world, feeling only deep tranquility and comfort.

Himeko and Ato stood before a gravestone.

Before them was a single stone engraved with the name Siegfried.

Himeko had already stepped down from her position as captain of the Tethys battleship.

She let out a sigh. Her eyes were filled with remembrance and emotion as she gazed at the inscription. "It wasn't until I stood on the front lines against the Honkai that I understood how difficult it is to protect human civilization from it. Siegfried, who saved humanity several times... was truly great."

She slowly bent down and gently placed the flowers in her hands before the gravestone.

Her long hair fluttered in the breeze, and her beautiful face revealed deep sorrow.

"Siegfried was a true hero."

Yet the word "hero" was far from enough to summarize Siegfried's life.

Of course, this was not a final verdict upon his coffin. It was merely... the world's insignificant expression of thanks, long overdue.

Unfortunately, the hero had fallen. Humanity no longer had its hero.

This hero had left no remains behind. The world had not even erected a proper monument for him... to commemorate his achievements.

What stood before them was nothing more than a simple cenotaph. Among all the gravestones in Highgate Cemetery... it was likely the most inconspicuous of them all.

To erect even this small stone, Himeko and Ato's family had spent a considerable sum of money just to secure this tiny plot of land to house Siegfried's belongings.

Beneath the cenotaph... were the things Siegfried had loved most in life: a Nintendo Switch, a PSP, various figurines, and model-building tools.

Burning fiercely before the grave were Siegfried's treasured comic books and Homu plush dolls.

As Ato fed Siegfried's beloved possessions into the flames, he offered his blessing in a heavy, somber voice. "I hope Instructor can continue enjoying those games, figurines, and model tools in another world... along with the companionship of those comics and Homu dolls."

Due to the confidentiality agreement of Mobius' laboratory, Blanca had not told her husband that Siegfried was still alive.

Moreover, Siegfried himself did not wish for Ato to see what he had become. Thus, Ato knew nothing of Siegfried's current condition.

"Heh, maybe not. It's precisely because of all that stuff that he never managed to find a wife."
