Chapter 238 - Amnesia Means Accepting "Re-education"

Seeing that Id was fully focused on rummaging through her belongings with no intention of resting, Conductor naturally understood what was going on in her mind. After all, she had been exactly the same once.

Suspecting even yourself—there really was no one else quite like her.

"Sigh... fine. I know you're suspicious of me. How about this—I'll call out the other personalities to have a chat with you. Maybe you'll get the information you want from them."

Conductor knew very well what kind of stubborn and troublesome personality her former self had. Seeing Id revert to that same obstinate state from her previous life, she wasn't surprised at all.

After all, Vill-V's past life had taken place in a harsh and oppressive apocalyptic world. The cultural environment there was... questionable. Calling it "problematic" was already being generous—it would be more accurate to say the mainstream mindset was outright insane.

On top of that, she had to constantly guard against the ever-present Sophons, which shaped her into someone extremely cautious and suspicious of everything.

That kind of serious, guarded personality might have suited a Wallfacer in the Three-Body world—but it absolutely didn't fit a two-dimensional world.

So Conductor arranged for her to interact with the other personalities, hoping to help her quickly adapt to this Honkai world and become a proper "otaku"...

"Id really lost her memory? Hahaha, that's fantastic!"

Because the connection had been cut, Pure Evil was no longer restrained by Conductor—though that restraint had never been particularly strong to begin with, mostly just occasional nagging.

Now that her ears were finally free of that chatter, Pure Evil felt incredibly pleased. Yet she didn't show it, instead putting on a weak and fragile expression.

"Actually, I'm the real Id. Conductor is just lying to test where you came from."

"Heh, sure, I believe you."

Though she said that, the former Id didn't believe a single word of Pure Evil's hastily fabricated story.

...

"Oh? Id, you lost your memory?"

After witnessing Magician's incomprehensible little tricks and Occultist's equally incomprehensible ramblings, Expert's gloomy voice finally rang out:

"Perfect. I have a task for you. As a scientist from the Three-Body world, you should be able to handle it..."

In a certain sense, Id's amnesia had resulted in Vill-V now possessing two scientist personalities.

"This is the fresh data we collected from Imaginary Space..."

The moment her former self examined the materials in her consciousness, she was stunned.

What the hell—dense, intricate theories about Imaginary Space filled every page. The Three-Body world had imaginary number theory, sure—but where did Imaginary Space even come from?

If they had the capability to open Imaginary Space, why bother researching antimatter bombs? Wouldn't it be far more efficient to deploy imaginary bombs in interstellar warfare?

Expert spoke as if everything was perfectly natural, making the former Vill-V question whether this was truly a scientist—or some kind of creature powered by "if I think it works, it works."

However, after witnessing a few of Expert's on-the-spot experiments, the former Vill-V was completely convinced.

Opening and closing quantum channels at will...

My knowledge was too shallow. I failed to recognize a true master.

"I suspect you're taking this opportunity to get revenge on little Id," Lecturer commented as she wandered in. Unfortunately, she had nothing much to say—since Id couldn't access the Vill-V group chat anymore, she couldn't question Expert directly.

As for how Lecturer knew about all this—it was because she was currently the one explaining Imaginary Space theory to Id.

"Lecturer, you're actually still alive!"

"Of course I'm alive—why would you assume I'm dead...? Oh, and by the way, I don't play cards, and I definitely don't duel!"

...

After being bombarded with "knowledge lectures" from the various personalities, Id quickly surrendered.

"Science is too profound! I quit being a scientist! What even is all this? Newton is dead! Physics doesn't exist anymore! Hahaha!"

She tossed a stack of papers into the air, letting them scatter freely.

With so many overwhelmingly powerful personalities around, why bother studying? Might as well just lie flat.

There was no way her brain could process all this anyway. The two-dimensional world was far from simple.

(Expert: You don't get to lie flat. I need your assistance right now.)

Id flopped onto the bed, hugged a pillow, and promptly fell asleep.

(Expert: ...)

All in all, the Vill-Vs successfully ensured that Id got a "good night's sleep."

...

Now free from restraints, Vill-V stretched comfortably, holding a pillow as she extended her body.

"So this is what it feels like to be a woman... Even though the Three-Body world had all sorts of strange simulation devices, actually becoming one really is different~"

"Wait... what was that '~' just now?!"

She angrily threw the pillow onto the floor. After becoming female, many of her behavioral habits had also shifted.

Under the "guidance" of the various Vill-V personalities, Id had finally regained a proper two-dimensional personality. Truly a cause for celebration.

"Getting emotional so easily... this doesn't fit my original image of a cold, rational scientist at all."

"And these two lumps of fat..."

"Alright, alright, stop playing with your body, Id. We don't have much time without surveillance—we can't waste it," Conductor urged.

Even though it was obvious Tesla wouldn't be diligently watching the monitors, seeing Id fiddling with her body in strange ways still prompted Conductor to intervene.

"Don't say things that can be misunderstood! I'm just curious about this new body. The weight distribution is clearly more front-heavy—if I'm not used to it, I might trip... And besides, I'm a legitimate professor at the Asian Aerospace Academy. Studying new phenomena is perfectly reasonable, right?"

While Id rambled internally, Conductor stroked her chin and flipped through her logbook.

Vill-V had always maintained the habit of writing logs—to avoid exactly this kind of situation: amnesia, or suddenly gaining a new personality without realizing it.

Additionally, the logbook served as a communication method for the personalities when Id was offline.

The reason Conductor had summoned all the personalities the previous day wasn't just to let them see how amusing amnesiac Id was—she wasn't that malicious.

The real purpose was to have each of them write in the logbook, describing their current state—whether they had lost memories, or if there were extra or missing personalities.

Under the faint light, Conductor flipped to the final page of the diary.

Aside from Pure Evil drawing a pig's head, Occultist scribbling her usual incomprehensible symbols, and Magician turning the diary into a slide projector, everyone else had provided proper responses.

Holding the now-transformed "diary"—which was currently projecting pig drawings, bizarre symbols, and lengthy academic papers—Conductor's expression grew complicated.
