Inside the towering walls of Qlipoth Fort, the air was thick with a tension that even the newly restored heaters couldn't dispel. Bronya sat behind her massive desk, her hands folded, looking sternly at the assembly of women gathered in her office.
"Bronya... is what you're saying actually true?" Seele asked, her voice uncharacteristically small.
A few days had passed since the awkward morning at Seele's house. The two had eventually reached a silent truce; Seele felt a twinge of regret that her "drunken courage" hadn't led to anything permanent, but she was secretly relieved she hadn't lost her first time in a blur of alcohol.
However, personal romance was now the last thing on their minds. They were facing a crisis of a different sort.
"It is," Bronya nodded, her gaze sweeping over the room: Serval, Lynx, Natasha, Cocolia... and a purple-haired man leaning against the far wall.
"Wait." Bronya rubbed her temples. "Sampo? Why are you here?"
Sampo chuckled, adjusting his scarf with a flourish. "Oh, come now, Mother of the City! Old Sampo cares about the future of Belobog as much as the next guy. How could I miss such a historic summit? Besides, when it comes to being 'best buds' with Kenta, I'm top-tier material!"
Bronya recalled the story of the broken binoculars Kenta had mentioned and maintained a look of deep, icy suspicion.
"Never mind the vulture for now," Serval interrupted, her expression more serious than Kenta had ever seen it. "Let's get to the point. Kenta is planning to leave Jarilo-VI. What are we going to do about it?"
The room fell into a deafening silence.
Bronya had been in the Supreme Guardian's office, humming to herself as she processed the morning's reports. Every time her hand brushed her cheek, she remembered the soft, fleeting kiss Kenta had given her two days ago, and her heart would do a little gymnastic routine.
Knock, knock, knock.
"Come in," Bronya said, her voice bright.
When Kenta walked through the door, she practically beamed, hopping up from her chair to greet him. "Kenta! You're early. Did you come to help me with the budget, or are you just here to distract me?"
Kenta looked at her, his eyes lacking their usual playful spark. He looked... heavy. "Bronya, I came to tell you something."
Bronya's joy faltered. She took his hand and led him to a seat. "What is it? You look like you've seen a ghost."
Kenta took a deep breath, his voice strained. "Bronya... I have to leave Belobog. I'm leaving the planet."
It took several seconds for the words to register. The smile vanished from Bronya's face, replaced by a look of sheer, cold disbelief. "You're joking. Where would you even go? This is the only habitable rock left in the solar system."
She had a suspicion, but she was terrified to name it.
Kenta reached into his satchel and pulled out a jagged, blackened shard of metal. "Mr. Welt—the older gentleman from the Express—came by yesterday to finish the containment of the Stellaron. He found this embedded in the core's center. It was still burning with my Black Flame."
He drew the Shard of the Void from his back. When he placed the fragment against the broken edge of the blade, it clicked into place with a haunting, perfect fit.
"The moment I touched it, fragments of a life I don't remember came back to me. Faces, names, a war among the stars... I have to know who I was, Bronya. I have to find out why I ended up here with a broken sword and no memory."
Kenta reached out and gently stroked Bronya's head, his touch incredibly tender. "I'm traveling with the Astral Express. But don't look like that... Belobog is my home now. I swear, I'll find my way back to you."
"So," Bronya summarized, her voice steady but her eyes dim. "He's leaving to chase his past. I've gathered you all here because you are his closest friends. I want to hear your thoughts."
"I think," Clara spoke up first, her voice soft but her red eyes shining with a strange resolve, "that if Big Brother Kenta has made his choice, we should support him. He's always been there for us... we should let him be there for himself, too."
"Sigh," Bronya leaned back. "I don't want to chain him. But interstellar travel isn't like taking the cable car. Once he leaves, we have no way of knowing if he can ever come back. For the city, he's our greatest defender. For me... I just want him to have a reason to return."
"Mmm! Hook doesn't want Teammate Kenta to go!" the little Boss of the Moles shouted, pouting.
Natasha squeezed Hook's hand gently. "Let Kenta make his own path, Hook."
Lynx, who had been quiet, looked at her sister. "Speaking of paths... why isn't Gepard here? I heard him shouting in the hallway earlier about Kenta 'tricking' him again."
Serval's expression turned awkward. "Ah, well... Kenta and I told a 'little lie' to get past the restricted zone. I had to clear things up with him yesterday. He was... unhappy to find out he isn't actually going to be an uncle."
Cocolia, who had been listening from the shadows, suddenly stepped forward. Freed from the Stellaron's madness, she looked like her old self—sharp, observant, and a bit cynical. She glanced at Hook and Clara.
"Sampo," Cocolia said coolly. "Take the children out for some snacks. The adults need to speak."
Sampo took the hint and ushered the kids out. Once the door clicked shut, Cocolia looked at the group of women.
"It's simple," Cocolia said, her voice dropping into a register that was half-joking and half-deadly serious. "If you want Kenta to have an unshakeable sense of belonging to Belobog—if you want to ensure his return—why doesn't one of you just have a child with him?"
The room went so quiet you could hear the snow hitting the windowpane.
Cocolia looked at their stunned, blushing faces and scoffed. "What? Is that too bold for the new era? Fine. If none of you are up for the task..." she paused, a provocative glint in her eyes, "I'm available."
