The morning of the Wallace Cup in Floaroma Town arrived with the scent of fresh blossoms and the electric hum of anticipation. After her disappointing early exit in Jubilife, Dawn was a woman possessed. She didn't just want to win; she wanted to dominate.
Preparation was key. Dawn's signature indigo hair had been transformed into an elegant, intricate style, held in place by accessories that caught the light of the stadium. The unexpected architect behind this look? Ash.
Leveraging memories of his past life and a surprising knack for aesthetics, Ash had taken over the styling duties. He claimed he was just trying to keep her from dawdling and missing the registration, but the result was undeniable—Dawn looked like a high-class Coordinator before she even stepped onto the stage.
"It looks so good... I wish he could help me get ready every morning," Dawn murmured, admiring her reflection in the contestant lounge.
Kenny, standing nearby, felt his heart sink further. Seeing his childhood friend so thoroughly "branded" by Ash's handiwork was a blow more painful than a critical hit. He left the lounge early, unable to endure the sight of Dawn's infatuated smile.
The First Round: A Lesson in Composure
On stage, Dawn chose Pachirisu for the performance round. The "White Devil" was visibly nervous under the bright floodlights of a world-renowned stage, its tiny paws trembling. But Dawn remained calm. She used a specialized Poffin to soothe its nerves mid-performance, guiding it into a brilliant display of redirected static electricity.
"Her talent is immense," Brock noted from the stands. "To adjust a Pokémon's emotional state mid-round without losing the flow... she's grown significantly."
"She's also been practicing until her shoes nearly wore out," Ash added. "Talent is the spark, but that kind of persistence is the fuel."
The Strategic Architect's Ledger
While the crowd roared for the performances, Ash's mind was elsewhere. He opened his internal data panel, his eyes scanning the current roster.
[Current Roster Analysis]
Pikachu: Veteran. Non-negotiable.
Snorlax: Current Heavy Tank. In training.
Pidgeot / Staravia: Redundant roles. Two Flying-types are inefficient for the upcoming Gym.
Turtwig: Approaching evolution. Needs high-level Grass-type mentorship.
Aipom: Persistent "Whiner" but has high Contest/Battle versatility.
I need to adjust, Ash thought. Having both Pidgeot and Staravia was a luxury he couldn't afford with the Eterna Gym approaching. He planned to send both back to Professor Oak's lab. Staravia needed to learn the "essence of the BUG" from his Swellow and the tactical aerial maneuvers of his Noctowl.
To fill the gaps, he decided to pull the "Wild King" Scizor back into the rotation for clearing power, and he made a bold choice for the fifth slot: Sceptile.
As the Grass-type senior of the team, Sceptile was the perfect mentor for Turtwig. Even if their styles differed—Sceptile being a speed-based slasher and Turtwig being a grounded tank—Sceptile could teach the youngster the intricacies of Bullet Seed and energy conservation, saving Ash several expensive TMs.
The Childhood Showdown
The battle rounds unfolded with predictable intensity. Dawn faced Jessilina (Jessie in a very thin disguise) and her Dustox. The rivalry was old, and Jessie was desperate for redemption, but Dawn's Piplup dismantled the poison-moth's strategy with a refined Whirlpool.
This set the stage for the finals: Dawn vs. Kenny.
"A battle between childhood friends," Brock whispered, his eyes gleaming with the drama of it all. "The stakes couldn't be higher for Kenny's pride."
The match was a classic battle of the penguins: Piplup vs. Prinplup. Despite the disadvantage in evolution, Dawn's Piplup utilized the "spinning evasion" she had practiced in the woods, sliding around Prinplup's heavy attacks. With a final, beautiful Peck combined with the shimmering remnants of a Bubble Beam, Dawn secured the win.
"I won!"
Dawn hoisted Piplup into the air, the Floaroma Ribbon gleaming in her hand. Her first instinct wasn't to look at the judges, but to find Ash in the crowd. When their eyes met, she waved frantically, her face lit with a joy that outshone the stadium lights.
Ash smiled and waved back, acknowledging the victory. The "Narrative Architect" noted that with this win, Dawn's confidence was finally restored. Now, it was time for his own team to evolve.
