Chapter 55 - Chapter 55: The North Wind’s Sanctuary and the Challenge of the Aura

The dense canopy of the Eterna Forest finally gave way to a hidden clearing, where a moss-covered stone cave stood like a silent sentinel. Ash arrived first, his steps firm, while Dawn trailed behind, looking as though she'd just run a marathon through a swamp.

"Hoo-hoo... Ash, please tell me we're there," Dawn panted, her face flushed and beads of sweat dampening her brow. She didn't wait for an answer, collapsing onto a relatively clean stone and clutching her trembling legs. "I can't take another step. My legs feel like noodles!"

"We're here. The destination is just inside that cave," Ash said, pointing toward the dark maw of the cavern.

Dawn looked at the distance, then back at Ash, a mischievous yet weary smile tugging at her lips. She reached out her fair hands. "Well, since it's your fault I'm out here... how about a lift? Carry me, please!"

Ash sighed, though his eyes betrayed his amusement. "Who told you to sneak after me in the first place?" He stepped forward, but instead of the bridal carry she expected, he hoisted her up by the waist, securing her firmly against his side.

"Wait! Not like this! Put me on your back, you idiot!" Dawn squealed, her face turning a vivid scarlet as her hands instinctively wrapped around his shoulders for balance. "This is so embarrassing!"

"Relax," Ash chuckled, beginning to walk. "There isn't a soul for miles. I've already had Pikachu clear the path of wild Pokémon so we wouldn't be disturbed."

Dawn grumbled but eventually rested her chin on his shoulder, her heart racing. She waited for him to tease her or for his hands to wander, but to her surprise, Ash remained completely focused. His grip was steady and respectful, his eyes fixed forward. He was in "Battle Mode." To face a legend like Suicune, he couldn't afford a single impure thought—distraction was a luxury he didn't have.

The Blue Light in the Dark

As they entered the cave, the light vanished. Dawn, who had a well-known fear of the dark, tightened her grip on Ash until he could barely breathe.

"Pikachu, I wish you knew Flash right about now," Ash muttered, feeling the mouse's weight on his head.

To soothe Dawn's fear, Ash closed his eyes. "Aura is with my heart!"

Suddenly, Ash's entire body erupted in a soft, pulsing blue radiance. He became a living lantern, the Aura illuminating the jagged stalactites and the shimmering damp walls of the tunnel.

"Wow... is this that power from earlier?" Dawn whispered, her blue eyes wide with wonder as she stared at the glowing boy.

"It's called Aura," Ash explained, his voice echoing. "It allows me to see without eyes and ignore the shadows. We're almost there."

The Embodiment of the North Wind

The tunnel opened into a massive grotto. A single shaft of light pierced the ceiling, illuminating a crystal-clear pool at the center. There, standing upon the surface of the water as if it were solid glass, was a creature of ethereal beauty.

Its body was a sleek, light blue, adorned with white diamond patterns. A magnificent, flowing purple mane billowed behind it like a silken cape, and two white, ribbon-like tails drifted in an invisible breeze. On its forehead sat a crest resembling a giant sapphire.

"Suicune..." Dawn breathed, clutching her Pokédex.

Suicune: The Aurora Pokémon. It is the embodiment of the North Wind and possesses the power to instantly purify even the filthiest waters.

"I didn't think I'd actually see one," Dawn whispered. "It's even more graceful than the legends say."

Ash stepped forward, gently lowering Dawn to the ground. He patted her head once—a gesture that sent a fresh wave of heat to her cheeks—and then turned his full attention to the legend.

"Suicune!" Ash's voice was like iron. "I've come to challenge you. I want to prove my strength and earn the right to stand beside the North Wind!"

Suicune's wine-red eyes locked onto Ash's. It didn't flee. Instead, it tilted its head, sensing the purity of the Aura radiating from the boy. With a low, melodic "Woo~", it stepped off the water's surface and onto the mossy bank. It bowed its head elegantly, acknowledging the challenge, and settled into a battle stance.

I won't let your legacy be diminished by anyone, Ash thought, recalling a dark-skinned trainer from another timeline who had once "captured" a Suicune with a mere net. Today, we do this with honor.

"Sceptile, I'm counting on you! Let's show them the power of the forest!" Ash shouted, hurling the Poké Ball into the air.
